Used by both cyclists and walkers, much of it is traffic free - following the line of former tramway, canal and railway routes. Lots of people use a particular stretch of the Taff Trail to cycle to work or for leisure outings, while more serious cyclists and walkers complete the whole thing. Some of the route is suitable for all abilities of walkers or cyclists (such as the trail through Cardiff's Bute Park), whereas other parts are more remote and strenuous and require a certain level of fitness and planning. For those who want to do the trail in just one direction, the handy Beacons Bike Bus runs between Cardiff and Brecon on Sundays during the summer months to transport you back to where you started!

Along the way there are facilities and camping grounds nestled in some of the most superb countryside that South Wales has to offer. The trail makes its way through the Brecon Beacons, a spectacular national park, and then on through the Valleys. If you want to spend some time in the rolling Welsh hills, there's no better way to do it. The cycle route is challenging without being too difficult for the average cyclist. This is mainly due to some long hills between Brecon and Pontsarn, but then it's all downhill. Literally. Whichever way you're travelling. The trail is suitable for people of all ages, and does not tend to be too busy. You can really get out into the thick of it.

Basically, its a bike hire system that works best if you pre-register online so you don't have to faff around so much with the machine too much. Then you can pick up a bike from the train station, or the bay, or parts of town and away you go. Granted its not the easiest of systems to operate, and they aren't the most stylish of bikes although they do have a good size basket to put your handbag in and they don't have any chains to get you covered in oil either. The reality is, I live on a huge hill and would have to drag myself and the bike back after, which would not be quite so exhilarating. It makes me very sad how hilly Bristol is, I'd be cycling all the time if it were flat. This doesn't put off a lot of cyclists in the city though, and this shop is a vital retailer to the people of Clifton and surrounding areas. They have a selection of top of the range bicycles, as well as bikes to hire, spares and other cycling gadgets.

For the latter, they've got a massive range of bikes, and are main distributors for big brands such as Falcon and Haro. They check each bike before selling it, and also offer a free service for every bike they sell. On the repair front, they work very efficiently, usually diagnosing the problem whilst you wait and never taking longer than a few days to get it fixed. They don't charge extortionate prices either, and you get the impression they really care about doing a job well. The only down side I can think of is if you get here from any other way than the direction of the Downs, it's a real trek to get to on a bike (fix it to your car and drive up the hill instead!).

Get out of all the traffic snarl ups, in fact, they might decrease! and see Poole without stress! There aren't many hills in Poole, really it's one big long hill, with a few dips, and a slights increase in gradient in one place.well big a increase really. To get to the beaches though, there's really only Evening Hill, and if my daughter can slog it, I reckon any healthy person can! Ooh, imagine cyclying from Sandbanks to Bournemouth Pier or further, stopping off to have a drink or a swim. Imagine cycling along the Quay and Baiter, and going on to Sandbanks! Along Holes Bay and to Wareham! A place steeped in history. or further to Corfe Castle.or take the Sandbanks ferry to Studland and cycle back to Poole the scenic, opposite way! Ooh, this is really exciting! You can see so much more and stop where you want without needing to park! And no nasty emmissions either. Summer would be revolutionised in Poole! Some say the traffic here is as bad as London.we do get some tail backs! It really is bad at peak times.
