Sooo I have been looking for a tasty African restaurant close by for awhile...when I saw an add on Groupon for ''dine for two ..at £17 '' at a nearby Caribbean restaurant i thought I had struck gold...
When I initially rang up to book to use my voucher they said they were fully booked...I thought ahh this is a good sign..they must be good..
So when I finally booked a place I was quite shocked when I arrived...and not in a pleasant way..
You could tell that it had been re decorated...but you would think that they did this in the dark with an hour on the clock...the paint job was patchy and crooked.the bar ..which could have been nice had the same amount of alcohol as my fridge..and I am not exactly an alcoholic..
The waitress came from behind the bar...after turning the tinny sounding stereo up and said we could sit anywhere....which was not hard considering there was only two other people there..
When she asked for drinks..I thought I would try something different..so I asked 'hey what it the palm wine like?'' ..she apologetically confessed she had not the foggiest idea...so I decided not to risk a fiver on what could be floor polish tasting..
I later tried ordering some salted fish for my starter...to which she informed that they were all out of fish..apart from prawns..and crab claws...so I decided to go for the crab claws, and my companion wisely chose the chicken wings....my jaw dropped when she presented me with what looked suspiciously like the crab claws you get from iceland....and tasted like it with the generic chilli sauce...the chicken wings looked amazing and were well seasoned...so if you do go ..get these....
The main...again I had the same problem...no fish...so she perked up and said 'hey don't worry I will get the chef to cook you something special with the prawns'' so I had hope....
My hopes were dashed...the prawns were swimming in red grease...the goat curry again was seasoned beautifully and smelt amazing...I tried my friends sauce...not as good as the one I tried years ago from the Thursday market near Piccadilly gardens..but hey a damn improvement from mine!!
After all was done we hastily left....to which she pleaded 'PLEASE come again'..no thank you..
Overall ..yes we got a cheap deal through Groupon but that is not the point..the whole point of using a site such as Groupon is to generate new business and create a good impression...not put them off...
If you had ordered the meat dishes you might be ok...but if you are pescaterian..or vegeterian...I would strongly go somewhere else.. read more
