Pretty average food truck burrito unfortunately. Maybe I came in with too high of expectations, but my veggie burrito was just normal. Not stuffed too much but still flavorful - would much prefer to explore new food trucks than come back here. Menu is pretty varied so I would expect you can get whatever type of food you're craving!

I had seen this truck quite often in the FiDi and finally gave it a try one random lunch day. The lines here vary during lunch times, but mostly aren't ever extremely long. The menu was pretty typical of many of the tex-mex chains and trucks in the area so I ordered the chicken burrito bowl. All of the pricing for the food was on par with a lot of the other spots serving the same food, so no difference there. When I dug into the burrito bowl, the first thing I noticed was how neatly packed everything was in the tupperware that they serve it in. At first, the bowl didn't seem big, but as I dug and dug and dug deeper I realized how much food was actually in there! It was great that it was so packed as I love me a large meal! However, the burrito bowl was just OK to me. The ingredients didn't jump out at me, nor did the flavoring of the burrito bowl. There was also a ton of lettuce in it, which was too much for my liking. In my opinion, Chipotle's burrito bowl still rules them all, mostly because of their cilantro rice. It's tough to duplicate that type of success and Tacos Morelos gives it a nice run, but their burrito bowl falls short of the flavors and taste that Chipotle's burrito bowl doles out on a consistent basis.

My office recently relocated to Front Street in FiDi and I was super disappointed in all the "fancy" food options available that are super expensive. Then as if the gods heard my prayers, I stumbled across all the food trucks near Hanover. Every day a new assortment of delicacies to try! Tacos Morelos however has me coming back for more! So far I've tried the tacos and quesadillas and the taco plate with rice and beans. It's all delicious and wonderfully seasoned. And cheap! For $10 a delicious filing lunch. I highly recommend anyone in the area check these guys out. They're doing it right!

Bistec huarache

Super authentic and quick, with friendly people to boot. Hidden gem, there was a bit of a line, so they have a local following, but with this being only the third review, they deserve more exposure. Per the recommendation of a prior Yelp review, got the bistec (steak) huaraches - LOADED with tasty, seasoned meat, and topped with delicious veggies and sauces. Get it spicy, you won't regret the flavor trip. Also, only $5.50 - chicken and other options were just $5 I believe. Definitely will return.

If Ropa Vieja isn't prepared correctly, the meat can be tough and stringy and get caught in your teeth, etc and just unpleasant. But their ropa vieja was tender and delicious. And I ate every bite. I was pleasantly surprised. I can't speak to their other food but definitely at least try the ropa vieja. If I have any of their other dishes or sandwiches, I will write an update.

The chicken was kind of bland, which is surprising since garlic normally has a pretty strong flavor. The platters all come with a side of rice, beans, and sweet plantains. The plantains were unfortunately, kind of burnt and the beans were also pretty flavorless. Cuban food should be fun and exciting and full of flavor! Sorry Bongo Bros, but you were a disappointment :(. I actually heard of this place through foodtoeat.com if anyone wants to check it out. There are a lot of other cool street vendors on the site. I like experimenting with food carts so it's pretty useful for that.

Ok so, I'm shocked that no one else reviewed the mystery taco truck! I searched for a name (see the…read morephoto I posted of the truck itself) but it just says "Steven's Truck" on the door haha. A. suggested Mexican food, and I'm kind of snobby and begrudging about getting Mexican food in NYC since I always go back to Houston and gorge. But I relented and we got the whole haul: - al pastor - carnitas - alambre (de chorizo) - chorizo - tinga (chicken) - enchilada (spicy pork) The guy looked at me funny because I wanted a chorizo y huevo taco (they make it in torta form), but I mean, Texas is the land of breakfast tacos so I wanted to try it. We ended up getting a normal one, but I'm working on charming them into making breakfast tacos for me. They were kind enough to speak to me all in Spanish. Necesito practicar. Everything was great. My favorite was the al pastor. The chorizo was a little more dry and crumbly than I'm used to, but it was delicious (and less greasy). Double-corn-tortilla for every taco, like it should be. A+ for authenticity. Pico + onion + guac on EVERY TACO. A++ for the guac. And that red hot sauce is the BOMB. Hot sauce, bring it on.

These days, I be trying to skip lunch so that I can stay Rockstar skinny, save some bread, and then I can be a little piggly wiggly at dinner. Hehe. However, our office catered lunch from here yesterday so I had to tap in. Nothing hits like some free food. Platters of lamb, chicken, salad, fries, rice, and salmon were laid out on our big rectangular table ready to get torched. I loaded up my plate with chicken, lamb, and salad. The salad included these little dolmades, which are just rice wrapped grape leaves but they are crack. I will lowkey eat anything wrapped in a grape leaf these days... I skipped on the salmon because of that viral Keith Lee video of the little parasite moving on his piece of sushi. I know this salmon is cooked and perfectly fine to eat, but I'm off all fish for a bit. I realized that 90% of the game is mental though. I gotta get out of my own head. I went back for a 2nd plate at 4pm, as the leftovers were still out on the table. Another plate of straight chicken, salad, and a couple dolmades. All I got is a dolmade and a dream... Katchkie Truck - Truck...can't miss the green

New York City isn't exactly well-known for its barbecue. Meanwhile, the Katchkie Truck isn't…read moreexactly well-known, period. But don't be expecting some sarcastic-ass review that tells you just how terrible this joint is so I can have it all to myself. So, let's be clear - this place is good. And I sincerely want you to stay far, far away. That being said, this truck's not found at different locations on different days of the week, tracked down by Twitter-savvy foodies. No, it's tucked itself away in a parking lot off Spring Street between Hudson and Varick (ridiculously referred to as the Hudson Square Urban Courtyard on the website), mostly hidden from pedestrian peripheral vision unless being specifically sought out (something we both now know you wouldn't dare). And, to be honest, its virtual non-existence on food truck blogs doesn't make it any more exclusive or underground or cooler than its nomadic brethren. However, (just when you were wondering when the hell we were going to get to the barbecue bit) it does so happen to make a super-addicting, super-satisfying, super-delicious BBQ Pulled Chicken Sandwich. And I'm super-serious. On any given workday, I know that this tremendous lunch option (packaged at $10 with a side and Strawberry Lemonade) is available to me, further evidenced by the free sandwich that awaits me on my next visit from my five-time punched Katchie Card kept in my wallet. Served on a Martin's potato roll and with a BBQ sauce that sits only a notch or two thicker than the vinegar-thin finish of a Carolina variety, this sandwich only gets better with a melted slice of New York State Cheddar. I gotta say, I was certainly skeptical of cheese on pulled poultry at first, but after giving it a go, it's got my blessing. Yet if chicken just ain't your thing, the Katchkie Farm Veggie Burger is a fantastic alternative, which, mind you, you won't hear me say about veggie burgers all too often. And I really don't know what type of vegetables they mash up and destroy in order to form this patty, but the end result is something decidedly not cardboard-like. Joined by a thick tomato slice, their homemade tomato jam, and their homemade chive roll, and we've got a pretty strong back-up plan put into place. Their sides can either be a little too stingy (a small helping of their sounds-better-than-it-really-is Potato Salad with Eggs and Dill) or a little too simple (the just-plain-boring Heirloom Tomato and Cucumber Salad). And while I personally enjoy the aforementioned Strawberry Lemonade, I recognize it might be a little too sweet for some. The Katchkie Truck is part of the Great Performances catering company, which seems like quite the classy operation with the high-quality, farm-fresh hook-up just two hours north of the city. They also have occasional specials, where I've heard rumors of a Duck Confit Quesadilla. The two-man crew working the [im]mobile kitchen are a friendly bunch, but the service can be on the slow side. The low count of in-the-know customers helps out in spades here as this handful of people in line seems to be just the speed for the staff. Naturally, if there is a spike in numbers, I'm gonna find out. Seriously, I'm here pretty much every week. And you can be sure I'll be the creep judging you from across the lot, staring you down uncomfortably with eyes that scold you for not heeding my warning, complete with a BBQ Pulled Chicken Sandwich hanging out my mouth. That's just how I roll, sucka.

Not knowing how many options we would have elsewhere on the island on our first trip, we jumped on the opportunity to grab some lunch and a cool drink. They had a large seating area set up outside the truck, and all the tables had umbrellas or were under a large tent. Can't beat a view of midtown from Roosevelt island for lunch! There were limited items on the menu, 2 small salads, 2 sandwiches, and hot dogs, along with some chips, cookies, and drinks. We opted to try the chicken and veggie sandwiches and yum, did they hit the spot. Everything was fresh as can be and the gentleman offered to toast the sandwiches for us. The charred chicken sandwich was served on pretzel bun with provolone cheese, BBQ sauce, and a summer slaw, while the veggie sandwich was wheat bread with summer squash, eggplant, radish, and homemade pesto. I also tried the blackberry lemonade which was fresh and tasty but did not have a ton of flavor (definitely made from scratch and no sugar added) so might not be for everyone. Will definitely eat here again if we see the bright green truck around the city!
