Mind you we visit many, many, many taco shops across Southern California, Tijuana, Ensenada and Mexicali. Of all those, this does take the top spot as of today. We used to go to a tried a true taco shop elsewhere in Mexicali, but it had been shutdown for some time and on our return it just wasn't the same. We came to Fuerte based on the recommendation of many in our family, and it did not disappoint. We had the carne asada tacos, which is what you need to get here. We did also try the quesadillas, but beyond that we just dove into the carne asada tacos. Tortillas were great and made on site. The carne asada was tasty and full of flavor, and the condiments they lay out all added to our delicious midnight meal. We liked the carne asada tacos so much we didn't get to try anything else. So we will try some of their other offerings next time out.

Fast food tacos!…read more Quick fast service, a nice plate of sauces upon seating. Very packed and loud but to the point and functioning. The good was the service and fast pace of this place The bad is the food and fast pace I ate the meat but didn't enjoy it as much. The carne asada wasn't even asada. No grill marks didn't taste fire cooked and was grey. The pastor was better. The maíz tortillas were so hard and dry it only led me to think they make the tacos way before hand and place them on plates upon ordering. The meat wasn't even hot. The only good thing is all the sauces they provide you with to hide the food flavor and rehydrate the tacos. Very popular place so they will survive regardless of food. Get flour tortillas they were similar size of the corn and were soft and made sense on the bite. The corner were rubber like

Being there felt special, like I was stepping into their story and sharing in the memories I grew up hearing about. The moment you walk in, the place smells amazing. It's very clean, and every table is set with a tray of salsas, cucumbers, and chiles toreados. Our waitress was friendly and took our order right away. These are honestly the best Chicali tacos I've ever had. My parents weren't exaggerating when they described the flavors: the meat was juicy and delicious, the flour tortillas were soft and flavorful, and topped with guacamole and salsa, it was just perfection. I had two tacos de asada and a quesadilla, and we also shared a parrillada with beans and carne asada, which was fantastic. To drink, the jamaica and horchata were absolutely to die for. For me, this was more than just a meal. It was a moment of connection with my family's past and with the love story that started here. El Huarachón isn't just a restaurant, it's a place full of memories and tradition for many locals. If you're ever in Mexicali, it's a must visit, not only for the amazing food but for the history it carries.
