Great little mom and pop restaurant. It looks small from the front, but has a surprising amount of seating once inside. But the parking lot looks so small it can be deceiving. Anyway, this was our first visit despite seeing and knowing this was here for nine years. They are a breakfast and lunch joint and close at 4 pm. We arrived about 2 pm and there were only a couple tables occupied. We were quickly seated and given menus. While we perused the menu they served us tortilla chips and what appeared to be refried bean dip with some sort of taco sauce/salsa with meat in it on top. The dip was tasty as was the sauce. They also brought two plastic bottles of salsa - a roja (red) and a verde (green). The salsa verde was good, with a little bite and great flavor. The roja was hot and had very little flavor. I was actually surprised how little flavor it had.
Our group of four placed our orders. The guys ordered taco plates - mine were Tacos de Trompo (pork) and my friends were Tacos de Fajita. The gals both ordered Enchiladas Suiza, which were chicken with cream sauce over them. Those looked photo ready on the plate and both enjoyed their meal. The enchiladas were served with a small plate of rice and beans. They guys taco plates consisted of five small corn street tacos, freshly griddled on a comal or flat top to soften them, then covered with delectable meats, grilled onions, fresh onion and chopped cilantro. There were two, half Key limes served with them. My Trompo tacos were excellent and my friend enjoyed his fajita which were beef, onions and peppers. I only ate three of the tacos but my friend gobbled down all five on his plate. They were perfect with some of that salsa verde on them.
Price was very good. Our taco plates were $9.99 and the gals Enchiladas Suizas were $10.99. This place is NOT TexMex! The plates aren't loaded with cheese and such. It is authentic Mexican cuisine, with dishes from in and around Monterrey and other regional specialties of Mexico. It was VERY GOOD if that's what you're looking for. If however, you're looking for typical Americanized TexMex this likely isn't your spot. We loved it and definitely will be going back. I'm going to have to try their breakfast next. I'm not sure if it's served all day or not but I will try it. I love me some Huevos Mexicanos with salsa verde and fresh corn tortillas! read more
