Good tacos and burritos. Not the best or anywhere close to being the best taco truck I've ever tried, but for Sacramento standards, this place is good. I'm from LA, so it's hard for me to get excited after taking a bite of a taco or a burrito. El Reys doesn't get me excited but at the very least, it reminds me of home because they do it right. Was so disappointed to open my side of rice and beans to see it was whole pinto beans and not refried. I added the side while ordering the tacos so didn't see the description but now I know why there's no pictures either. Rice was also so bland too, that didn't help. Was driving by and decided to get a few tacos since food trucks usually never disappoint. The guys that were working were nice. They were out of most of the meat options so I opted for three chicken tacos. The chicken was not food at all. The chicken thigh meat quality was terrible and had absolutely zero seasoning or flavor. They were smothered in salsa and unfortunately still tasted gross. I couldn't stomach the third one and threw it away. Maybe I got a bad batch of chicken but will definitely not be back. read more

Wanted a "taco truck" burrito, a nostalgic, childhood favorite as opposed to a plated burrito with all the fixings. Found Tacos El Rey compliments of Yelp. I arrived and there was no wait. Decided on the carnitas burritos for my hubby and I, this visit. The young man who took my order was very nice and answered my questions. Order was ready within minutes and the "burrito bag" was awfully heavy; again reminiscent of childhood, huge burritos. Burrito was nice and hot, but single noted in flavor. We've had the quesadilla and tacos in the last which were good. Will try nachos next time. Burrito has great potential, but couldn't tell one ingredient (rice, cheese, carnitas, etc) from the other. read more

Thought the service here was really good and the food came out in a timely manner I don't generally add points for these things but I just wanted to note that when coming here they push out their food pretty fast. I ordered five different types of tacos and the loaded hot dog I forgot the actual name of it but everything came out tasted pretty good was fresh and I would definitely come back here. read more

First time customer & had some decent tacos for a decent price. Also got our order quick, only 2 people ahead of us. I am Hispanic so these were pretty decent, I got 3 tacos de carne asada & 1 birria taco. My sister came with me & she ordered 2 carne asada & 1 pastor but she got 3 carne asada don't know if that was an error from their end because there was no difference in taste or looks in tacos either. Must say lack of cilantro, onions on my tacos and only had 1 tiny thin lime for my 4 tacos very greedy on condiments in general. (LOOK AT PICTURE) Had to cut up limes when I got home & some more onion to add to my tacos. I got Mild salsa on my tacos which was very good, next time I will try their hot salsa. ALERT - That one Birria Taco me & my sister shared we wanted to try it & so glad we only got one because after I ate my carne asada tacos I felt fine but after taking 2 bites of my birria taco my stomach started TURNINGGG. My sister ate her carne asada tacos first too & then once she took ONE bite of birria taco her stomach started TURNING quickly too. It felt like we were both having really BAD stomach cramps soooo glad I had Alka Selzer those pains were PAINFUL. Don't order fish tacos. I don't do a lot of reviews but today when I drove from San Jose, CA to this location, my fish tacos arrived and I knew instantly there was no meat because there were no chunks of anything in my tacos. Like I'm not a big complainer or anything but when you pay $4 for a taco and it truly was all bread and pieces of fried bread it was I squished every single one of them with my finger and there was absolutely no fish meat. It's a scam in my opinion. My husband also ordered them and he got one piece of meat in his fish tacos. So honestly, our ceviche Taco tostadas were good, but the shrimp tasted like it was canned shrimp meat. It wasn't a horrible experience but I won't go back there because it felt dishonest with the "fish" tacos that had no fish in them. read more

Been coming here for the past five years since it's right by my house. I've seen the prices gone up but the quality gone down which disappoints me. The birria tacos are what killed it for me. They are regular tacos, that are slightly fried and soggy with some sauce. The picture on the truck looks nothing like it. I paid close to 15 for a three soggy disappointing tacos , ( get them your selfs to see what I'm talking about) . I also got the ceviche cup with octopus...they prob. Ran out of the one with octopus and just gave me the one that comes with out because there was none. First time I tried this place, I came strictly for the quesa birria tacos and consume. I was hooked! Super pricey $3.75 per taco but it was tasty, just enough crisp and hella cheesy. My husband however was not impressed with his shrimp burrito or the price. Fast forward to like a month later (the other day) and I got a craving for the quesa birria tacos again. This time they were soggy, the comsume was hella oily and tasted bland. I was sooooo disappointed. And I bought 6! I immediately took them back after one bite and asked for a refund. I was so pissed. Right off the bat I'll say these were pretty bomb! I saw reviews saying that the tacos were a bit pricey but I didn't think so, but i'm from out of the area. I got 6 tacos with all the fixings for for $14. The way they warm up the tortilla is nice because it gives some flavor! You can tell they warm them up in the same komal that they are cooking the meat on. The tacos had a lot of pure meat which is important to me because i hate fatty pieces in my tacos. They came with all the toppings: onion, cilantro, salsa, lime, radish, and grilled onions. i bet you can get some grilled jalapeños if you ask. One thing to note is that the red salsa is a bit spicey (but has a good flavor). If you don't like that then I would ask if they would put light salsa or if they have a less hot alternative. I pass through the Sacramento area so I will for sure be back sometime soon! read more
