First let me start by saying that we have been looking for authentic Mexican food in the area and we have always been disappointed- at least until today. My son found Tacos El Rey right here in Caldwell, and while the menu is small, it is legit. The asada tacos were delicious; the meat was tender and not fatty at all- my son got the chicken flautas plate and he enjoyed them, and my daughter got a chicken quesadilla which she also really liked. The salsas were delicious too. The price point is decent- we paid around 50 with tip and sodas, which isn't bad in our opinion. They were friendly and the food came out fresh and fast. The place itself isn't huge, and I imagine it can get crowded but we went for lunch on a Tuesday and it wasn't bad at all; nothing fancy, but it has a decent amount of seating. Overall we really enjoyed it and would definitely go back. read more

We overall really like tacos, El Rey! The staff is always very friendly. My true only complaints would be the pricing is getting a little higher for the portion sizes. We spent $50 on four tacos, a flautas plate, side of beans, and one burrito. read more

Yum! We used to go to the one in Caldwell, but now that we've tried this one, it's pretty legit. I was too hungry to take a picture, but had three tacos including rice and beans for just $10! What a deal... will definitely be back. Just wish there was chips and salsa with it (unless I missed it). read more

The lunch we had here was kinda bland, food was not bad but not memorable at all, service mee.... Not really worth it. read more

Tacos El Rey - Shrimp Tostadas de Camoron, not great, bland and with the tinniest shrimp i have ever seen. - Mexican Near Me - Caldwell, Idaho

Me family's Favorite Mexican food in the area. Great family place, easy wheelchair access and parking. The people who work here are really nice too. read more

Tacos had no flavor very dry and smelled questionable as if the meat was old or left out for too long Made me sick for the rest of the day read more

I really hate to write this. It pains but I ordered 35 dollars worth of food for myself. The refried beans were not good at all. Made me wonder how many times they refried them. When I got home they were all hard and dark brown. And the rice. Oh my Lord. It looks like they turned to instant rice vs. Real made home mexican rice. It was just pieces of rice stick together. Like sticky rice. No flavor. Next time I'm gonna order Chinese. Tacos El Rey is just not as good as it used to be. It looked nice when I spread all out. Eating it different story. read more

Always fresh, this place is the bomb. Li Love the sopes are my favorite, they are soft and pillowy. But the tacos are good too. And the avocado sauce is to die for I could drink it. Service is good. However, the lines for ordering sometimes are quite long. For the price it gets five stars in my book. Make a sit down restaurant like in Nampa. read more

Tacos El Rey - Enchiladas asada - Mexican Near Me - Caldwell, Idaho

top of the line best mexican food in caldwell area. customer service top notch and great pricing. definitely would recommend

I got referred to taco El Rey by my banker in Ontario, she said this place is the bomb! So far so good a lot of Hispanics here so this must be a good hangout! Service is good so far huge menu, reasonable prices mariachi music in the background. I'm having torta à la Garcia my girlfriend's having beef enchiladas. The torta very fresh flavorful you gotta keep it in the wrap because it does fall apart because it has so much stuff in it which is Bueno. The enchiladas were OK. Come with the standard beans and rice. The enchilada looks like birra. Glad we stopped in. read more

A very cute, festive restaurant. Good service, great atmosphere and fantastic food. Prices are good. By far the best tacos I've had in Caldwell. Meat was flavorful and good. read more

This is a favorite local place for Mexican street food-style fare. You see a lot of Spanish-speaking folk in here dining, which is always a good sign for authenticity, but at the same time I know that turns some of the locals off because the style is slightly different than the Americanized version of this same food they are used to eating. It's their loss I say because we love this place. Value for the money is pretty outstanding, but some folks say they've been downsizing the portions lately, so I'll have to check that out for myself. The atmosphere is very much the utilitarian, hole-in-the-wall style eatery, but it's always consistent and delicious and their long hours make it a favorite of the post-bar crawl crowd who know it's here. That being said, given its location, if you didn't go looking for this place, you would probably never find it, since it's a little off the beaten tracks (literally) near where the railroad crosses by some of Caldwell's industrial businesses. The format as one could guess is fast-casual, so definitely a destination you go to more for the food than the dining atmosphere. That being said, they keep the place clean and in good shape, but some of the chairs are a little uncomfortable. read more

Great food! We were looking for something a little more authentic and we were not disappointed.

We actually went to my favorite Tacos Colima for lunch first, but they were closed, so we checked Yelp for other taco places and found this one just 0.3 miles from Tacos Colima, so off we went. The on-street parking was packed, so that was a good sign. The inside is nothing special, clean, with tables and old plastic booths in the main room where the doors open and close and if it's a cold day, you'll feel it (like I did) and then more tables in a larger dining room. The menu is on the wall and you order at the window and they bring it out to you. Street tacos were $1.50 - above the average for the area which is typically $1-$1.25 - and we ordered 6 carnitas tacos and 6 carne asada tacos, 2 horchatas and a can of Coke. The first thing I noticed when they brought us our tacos was that the meat was beyond shredded, it was so small, like that jerky chew beef jerky you get in a chewing tobacco can. This was the same for both kinds of tacos. The carne asada was dry and crunchy and being early in the day it didn't seem like it was fresh or made that day. The carnitas were moister and had good flavor to them. The horchata was very watered down and had way too much cinnamon in it. It was not good at all and I was ticked that I spent so much on that drink and not drink it. If Tacos Colima isn't open next time, I'll find someplace else to go. read more

Great little taco joint serving authentic Mexican tacos! I got take out as did many others I observed. Nice tasty corn tortillas, appropriate amount of fillings and NO CHEESE! They added in plenty of fresh salsas for my order too. This place reminded me of a place in Puerto Vallarta - Pepe's Tacos which we both loved. Not to be missed if you like fresh, authentic Mexican tacos! read more

The food here was not good they barley put any meat on the tacos, the salsa is more spicy than flavorful and watered down, the tripas were too rubbery you couldn't eat them, and the horchata was way too sweet all sugar no flavor. Save your money go somewhere else the only good thing was the Jaritos. read more

You know it's going to be good when the parking lot is full and many people are ordering in Spanish. We got burritos, quesadillas, and a few tacos. The tacos are a great price for a decent amount of meat. The quesadillas are quite small but fairly inexpensive. The tortillas seemed pretty fresh which makes a big difference in the quality of burritos. If you are looking for a "super burrito" this is not it. It has rice, beans, and meat. Maybe a little bit of cheese? We had our own sour cream at home and they tasted great but they didn't have much on them. Even though the burritos were a little smaller than I was expecting we were still definitely full with one burrito and one-two tacos each. I thought the prices seemed fair and the food was delicious we will be back to try more! read more

Great food great service. The Sopes are delicious and fresh. Love the Jamica. Great please for authentic food

We went here tonight for dinner and we loved it. This is an awesome and authentic Mexican taqueria. The food was very fresh and clean tasting. We order the burrito, enchallida, and sope. The chicken burrito was a little small but very tasty and only 5 dollars. The enchallidas were very good but I did not love the sauce. Then we got a pork sope and it was amazing. It had fresh avocado, sour cream and big chunks of pork on it. Overall, this is a great hole in the wall taqueria with good food and good prices. read more

Food is excellent and great prices!! Very authentic but not much in the way of ambiance in the way of seating.

I've been here numerous times and they've always had good food. I love their Sopes! They have never disappointed. Everyone working there has always been very nice and always very helpful when you need anything. I live out in Parma, but when I go into Caldwell, I like to go there. read more

Alright this it, the place for straight up authentic Mexican grub. The menu is really simple and straight forward, you pick what you want, burrito, taco quesadillas, torta etc and pick your meat, and they have the good stuff to choose from, like cabeza, lengua, Barbacoa and all the regulars like carne asada and polo and many more. I love the fact they keep it simple and focus on the food. This place reminds me of some of my favorite hole in wall restaurants in Los Angeles. Oh yeah and you can't go wrong with the prices either, they are the perfect package for consumers, the quality exceeds the price. read more

We moved here in 2019 from San Antonio. Tacos El Rey was the first Mexican food recommended to us by the locals. The food did not disappoint. I was amazed at their kitchen cleanliness which you can see as you place your order. They are consistent with this cleanliness over the last three years. They are also consistent with their food plates and taste. Being from South Texas our Barbacoa tastes different. We found that the Cabeza is the closest in taste. My absolute favorite is their Sopes. It's perfection in each bite. Inside the restaurant seating area is sparse but it's functional. The food is the main attraction which does not disappoint. read more

The tacos and everything else is a cheaper price than a lot of places and the way they cook the meat is great but it has no flavor it didn't even taste like they put salt on it and the tortillas didn't feel fully cooked they seemed a bit undercooked all in all it was okay but really not the best not even the sauces had flavor it was more of a 2 star but it was cheap and very clean they also had a wide variety of drinks to choose from read more

Omg. Best tacos I've ever ever had. We tried carnitas, chicken and the special pork tacos. The tortillas are light and soft. The meat is full of flavor. Clean, quick, delicious. Tacos El Rey - Tacos, asada on the left, carnitas on the right. - Mexican Near Me - Caldwell, Idaho

My pork tacos were great, his enchilada plate was good too but he'd have preferred a bit more sauce. Order at the window, grab a seat, sip a soda and wait for the yums to arrive. Would prefer not to have disposable plates/cutlery, but time is money so guess and no one is tempted to walk off with your stuff this way. In an industrial area, but don't worry. It's there. read more
