There is a tortilleria right down the street and when tortillas are running low a youngster literally runs over and gets a fresh made pack. They are nice and warm and taste freshly made. El Guero is battering and frying up fish and shrimp and busting em out wrapped in a gray piece of paper to soak up some of the oil. You then dress them yourself. They are crispy fried and stuffed with beans, then smothered in their famous ahogada sauce. You can get them plain or with carnitas on top, and honestly, both are amazing. The beans are rich and flavorful, and the carnitas are absolute perfection. My personal obsession is their spicy salsa. It is no joke. I slather it all over my tacos and love the burn, but fair warning: it is seriously hot and not for the faint of heart. Drinks are just as good. The cantaritos, micheladas, and clamatos are always served up ice cold, perfect for beating the Tecate heat. The service is excellent, with plenty of staff walking around so you are always taken care of. Every time I am in Tecate, I come here with no exceptions. It is a total can't miss spot.
