First booth on the right Beer and Shots! Haaaaay! $4 Jager shots and not sure about the beer but who cares after the $4 shots. At this point total score-I knew this night was gonna be good. How could it get any better? Walking around, there are so many trucks I haven't tried and want to but you only have so much room in your belly. LOL Started with an Asian flavor taco from Dragon Grille. That's it ....I just found my favorite food truck! Hands down it was the best darn taco and I will be hankerin for another till I find them out and about again! We all were completely impressed. The chickie in the front with the totally cute accent was helpful and such a sweetheart. Headed over to Sauced for the Big Easy Balls with Srirachi sauce. I had been told these are most awesome and I wanted to see for myself. Chicken and Rice formed into a ball and fried. Amazeballs! Talking about forgetting your diet for the night... Free Vegas StrEATS lanyard with Yelp checkin. Thanks! The vibe is pretty chill, everyone standing around juggling their drinks and food.....BECAUSE there is nowhere to sit other than a gross street ledge which I refused to sit. They definitely need some chairs of some sort but they know what they are doing. I'm sure there is a reason for not having the chairs/table set up. I see people complaining in the reviews regarding the downtown parking prices and some of the hotel garages just need your ticket validated inside the hotel before you leave-free parking peeps. Its not a secret or maybe it is. Anyways, what is better than cheap eats, flowin drinks, music and art? The whole night as usual with StrEATS was a success! =)

The Vegas StrEATs festival, much like First Friday is slowly but surely coming into its own. A…read morefestival that started out very unorganized and haphazard has become a regular fixture on my monthly calendar. I still am not sure how they decide which Saturday they are going to do this event. I've been the day after First Friday and I've been in the middle of the month. Part of the reason this gets 5 stars from me is that I live at The Ogden, so I literally walk down stairs from my place and BAM! Food Truck heaven. plus I like the addition of the local vendors selling their hand crafted wares. I'm not gonna buy most of it because its just not my style, but I'm all about small local vendors getting their shot. There's always a few regulars and a few change-ups each month. You can almost always count on Slidin Thru and Grouchy John's but the rest vary from month to month. And it's always a good mix of people in attendance. It's an all ages event so it usually draws that same crowd you see at First Friday, & it's FREE to get in so if you are in the area there is definitely no good reason to not check it out. My one main complaint is that there's around 4 or 5 tables total for the event. Therefore, there is always that awkward time after buying the food of walking around trying to find some place to post up and eat. For an event with as many attendees as this tends to get, and as much extra room as they have in the parking lot, whoever is in charge needs to get on this. It's a tiny little omission that would make a huge difference in the quality of the event.

They made up the vast majority of the turnout. This was easily confirmed by our visit to Modest Brewing Company, which only permitted entry to folks of drinking age. It had a normal amount of patronage, making it feel like being in the eye of the storm. Main Street was overcrowded along the entire stretch of the Arts District, between Bonneville Avenue on the north end, and Oakey Boulevard on the south end. Anyone age 21 or above will feel too old to be there, and therefore never return to this event. This effect will reinforce itself, such that the event has permanently shifted to the under-21 crowd. Consequently, bars will have a modest--no pun intended--revenue boost, at best, on the first Friday of each month. Not surprisingly, parking was a lost cause. So, we parked on the side streets near The STRAT. On the bright side, the double chocolate chip cookie I had from Cookies A'More was amazing. I also enjoyed the Waffles Belgian blonde ale at Modest Brewing; the Candy Bar Kiloton stout at Able Baker Brewing; and the Crispy Cauliflower Bánh Mì at Arts District Kitchen.

Lulu's, Sloppi Jo's, Food Slingers and BBQ Boy weren't there(BBQ Boy opted to go to the San Gennaro Feast(?!?!?) instead. I was so ready to try H&H BBQ this time around because of their long lines the last time. First, they were setting up, 15-20 minutes later, they packed up and left because of not having the right permits/papers for this event. So this time around, I tried LBS Patty Wagon's Ahi Sliders which were kinda disappointing because the ahi was seared ahead of time so it was practically a cold slider. It only takes seconds to sear a piece of ahi, so why would you do a bunch in advance? We tried a chicken Taco from Care Free Truck(Mexican/American) which was good. There were other first-time food festers: Amanda's Wish-(Soul Food) Yellow Lunch Box-(Cheesesteaks,Italian Sausage, Meatball Sandwiches Island Breeze-(Hawaiian) a no-show last time as well Quality Food Service sported a new paint job, but their carne asada burrito was no bueno(didn't even finish it) A no-show last time, Haulin' Balls showed up a little later, but by that time, we were already cooling off with some some Snow Ono and bailed...really considering skipping the next one....ALOHA!!!
