Being a person who LOVES Mexican food and have been experimenting with cooking it my whole life,…read moreBurritoRico was a real disappointment. I was really hoping to find my fix in Bonn, but alas, I will have to keep searching. My partner ordered the tacos. The flavors went well together, but the meat was dry and the corn tortillas were not heated on a grill. The tortillas fell apart pretty much immediately so he was left eating tacos with a fork. I ordered the vegetable burrito and again, it was very over cooked and pretty flavorless to add. The beans seemed like they'd been cooking for days and had been burnt. Too much rice and too little flavor. We also got the nachos to see what they were like and it was just laughable. It was room temperature ballpark nacho cheese (runny, unnatural, yellow stuff) on top of store bought tortilla chips. The toppings were sparse and you only got about 1/2 a basket eaten before your chips were completely dry. Cold nachos? I could not understand. The redeeming traits were a nice interior and a very tasty yet tiny margarita. For the €30 that we spent at BurritoRico, I would rather stay home and make Mexican food with actual flavor.

This bar/restaurant does a lot of pub grub - think curries (but German style so not traditional in…read moreanyway!), schnitzel, and everything with carbs! Seriously my casear salad (I was trying to be healthy!) came with so many croutons and a side of garlic bread, this was after I'd ordered 'pizza bread' for starters, well this was just a mis translation on the menu - I got plain ciabatta rolls and a garlic mayo. This restaurant is giving those of South America a run for their money on the triple carbs for dinner! For my vegetarian friend its tricky to find things to eat in Germany, so he appreciated being able to try mushroom quesadillas and a sweet potato and chickpea curry (served with rice and naan - to ensure that carb content is kept up!). For me trying to be healthy it was too much gimmicky 'pup grub' not quite Whetherspoons in the UK and not quite American Tex-Mex. I would definitely recommend sticking to the steak, however they didn't do a great job cooking that as required, but I would blame our lack of German, rather than an issue in the kitchen for this, the actual meat was tasty and comes either with a salad, chips or huge baked potato with sour cream. On the drinks, they serve a selection of the local beers and those from further afield. They try with a cocktail menu, but the one 'mocktail' I tried was pretty hideous (avoid the cucumber syrup in anything!) This restaurant is in central Dusseldorf and is quick and cheap for dinner, just don't have high expectations. It seems to be open all day and has a nice terrace area if the weather is nice. They have also been showing the football here - so I assume they will be showing major sporting events this summer, however the screens are not there all the time. In fact it seems people come to use Alex as a coffee shop / laptop hangout with its free wifi - I spotted a few people working on a mid week night.

They have a daily breakfast buffet in addition to an a la carte menu. The food is above average and for any American tourist, the breakfast buffet offers a lot of familiar foods plus the opportunity to try some German specialties. There is a cereals/pastry/breads section with fresh-baked goods, yogurt and homemade jams. I appreciate the wide assortment of savory foods as I'm not a sweet breakfast person: hot foods might include eggs, bacon, sausage, soups, curry while cold foods include deli meats, salads, smoked trout, lox. The buffet comes with orange juice and is reasonably priced at 13 euros (our hotel was asking 25 euros for a breakfast buffet). They have both outdoor and indoor seating areas, which are both very nice and comfortable for lounging and lingering.
