    a person holding a burrito

So we have been going to the Taco Casa in Durant, Oklahoma for many years now, and it has steadily gotten worse over the years. They always get the orders wrong every time we go there anymore, and tonight my son opened his burrito to literally find 1 scoop of beans and cheese. More tortilla than anything. Their prices keep going up and the quality of their food is worse every time. If I could give them 0 stars I would. The ONLY saving grace from our meal tonight was their sweet tea. Do not eat here, save your money and go somewhere else.

Seemingly a town fixture -- shelves full of Little League trophies, booths packed with locals, a line of cars snaking around the building for the drive-through -- this place was just about exactly what I expected. There's a simple, inexpensive menu of just a few items: the Super Nachos, the Chilada, the Super Taco, the Super Salad, the Super Burrito, the Taco Lite, and the Super Tostada, along with a smaller "value" menu. I went with the Super Nachos (just over $5), sans sour cream. Chips piled high with generically seasoned ground beef, finely chopped tomatoes, the bright yellow nacho cheese you get out of a can, and refried beans. I'm not saying it's horrible food (I'd say it's definitely a step above Taco Bell), but I'm not saying it's good, either. It's just about exactly what I expected. And, apparently, it's a chain, too? Yelpers in other cities certainly seem to be singing praises about this place. That, or piling on the hate.

There's more filling on the paper and in my lap than in the tortilla. Pathetic.

I only eat here because it's close to the college. Lately the staff as been ridiculously rude, especially at the drive thru. Today I spilled scalding hot nacho cheese all over myself because they just slopped my burrito together. Im only giving them two stars because they have good tea. I'm starting to think the drive across town to other restaurants is worth it.

Disgusting $25.00 bag of greasy cold food. Never Again!!

Taco Casa is great when its fresh, the only problem is that like most fast food it rarely is.

Mind you, we're all regular guys, but each of us are uniquely well travelled as professionals in our fields. On our way home we saw a couple of billboards that called this restaurant out as nationally acclaimed. None of us had been here before so we thought we'd try it out. We all were served hot food and left with full bellies, but much was to be desired. I am not here to speak poorly of this locally owned and operated dining establishment but I'll say it did leave much to be desired. The service was good however. I must say the hostess seated us promptly and our server was friendly but that's about as good as it got for me. The restaurant itself seemed oddly dim or not lit very well. We were in around 1 PM on a Saturday and it was, well, dingy. The menus were falling apart, our table and chairs didn't look like they'd be in use much longer and the overall appearance on the side wasn't much better. The food did come out piping hot as expected for a Mexican restaurant. I'll give them kudos for that. The food we all had though wasn't all that good despite the gargantuan portions. They do give you a ton of food here. One friend ordered a 'small' plate of nachos and I think 3 of the 4 of us could have filled up on that alone! Everything to me tasted canned and not fresh. This for me takes away from any dining experience. I like freshly prepared food. I am good with canned if it's done well and doesn't at least taste like it's fresh from a can or bag or from the freezer. So overall, this wasn't a horrible place to eat, but I had higher expectations. Odds are I won't stop in here again, but don't let my opinion alone be a reason to not try this place out. I'd encourage anybody to stop in and give it a whirl. You may like it where I didn't. And take advantage of the free queso for checking in on yelp!
