It was about a 15 minute wait from when I ordered online to when it would be ready (right amount of time for me to drive over). It was piping hot and ready for pick up. The avocado bites, something I'd never seen before, were delicious and the sauce that came with them was the perfect topping. They give you a big serving! I also got the chicken Big Mama, and it's definitely a good serving size with lots packed into it. I will be going back next time I visit.

Taco Tuesday at Kai Joe's is a no-brainer…read more We came for the à la carte taco deals and ended up trying a little bit of everything--the Kai Joe beef taco, chicken taco, surf and turf (shrimp and steak), and the North Shore shrimp taco. Every single one delivered. Great flavor, fresh ingredients, and just the right balance on each. We also grabbed chips and queso, which was exactly what you want it to be--simple, solid, and gone way too fast. Big picture--this group just gets it. They consistently do a great job across their restaurants on OKI, and Kai Joe's is another winner. We'll absolutely be back.

The chipotle sauce had the perfect amount of cream and spices. The chicken was well seasoned and cooked to a tender perfection. My wife ordered the Quesadilla Fajita. The Fajita was ginormous. Service was great and the location was clean. We both enjoyed the wall art!

No issue with the wait and the servers and staff were working hard and kind. That said, the prices were high for what you got and not having cups for water increased the dissatisfaction. We did enjoy the chips and the red salsa was good however our meals outside that were fairly flavorless. Pretty sure the only thing that was raved about was the Sangria Slush. I'm a fan of doing something and doing it well but not so sure outside the slush or the shrimp taco what the signature dish is here but it wasn't the specials, the seafood nachos, the beef, ahi tuna tacos.

4.5 Overall - A real beach-feel taco shack, less than a block from the ocean. Outdoor seating (no…read moreindoors) and weathered wood lends authenticity to the Surf City vibe, but then one also needs to contend with the birds and heat (minus the ocean breeze). We drove here with friends from Jacksonville (NC) and experienced the food and service and, afterwards said we'd definitely return here. Why? Tacos. We ordered four - Tuna, Shrimp, Chicken, and Veggie- all on a soft corn tortilla. Each one packed a mouthful of flavor combinations that were distinct and memorable. My blackened and seared tuna took a different turn with the bacon, yet it melded well with the cabbage and the spicy mayo. My favorite - the blackened and grilled Shrimp taco - included Asian slaw and sweet chili sauce that complimented the char. Our friends ordered the seafood nachos which frankly looked liked the shrimp and other seafood were overwhelming the chips! If I had been hungrier, I would have ordered this monster! Soft drinks (Coke products), adult beverages, and "Sweet Treats" are also available. The bathrooms are inside the surf shop. Paid parking is right next to the store. Since we were wondering how many tacos to get, I'll just say I think 2-3 per person is plenty. They do really pile them high, so 2 and some chips was great for me. My husband enjoyed 3 (we both loved the fried mahi, and the shrimp, and he also enjoyed the ground beef). These chips and guacamole were amazing- the chips almost tasted like Doritos and the guacamole was nice and garlicky! We were talking about these chips for days! The only have bottled water, so next time I'd probably just drink my own water bottle. Still highly recommend this spot!

Their salsa is a bit on the spicier side but is made with fresh ingredients and tastes good! You can tell that it's homemade, which is an expectation for any Mexican restaurant. I got the chicken ACP. It is great but just like the salsa, something in it (likely the cheese) has a kick! All of the components (rice, chicken, and cheese) have good flavor. If you're not a big taco fan (like me), then try the ACP! You won't regret it. My dad's birria tacos were great as well. Our server was a great guy, and frequently came around to check on us.
