I found the ambience to be very much and mom and pop Mexican food joint. It was clean inside and the service was friendly and quick. I chose a three enchilada lunch special plate that came with rice and beans. The rice is a type that I seem to have had many other Mexican joints, kind of fluffy rather uneventful. I'm not really a rice person so I basically only had a couple of bites and decided it just wasn't worth all the carbs. The refried beans were quite runny and spread thin on the plate so it covered a lot of real estate but there wasn't much there. The enchiladas on the other hand I felt like we're decent. I got a combination of beef, chicken and cheese. I think I like the chicken the best. All this food was served hot, on a hot plate. I greatly appreciate that.

We stopped at Mejia's Bakery while passing through town looking for a quick lunch. At first glance,…read morethe place almost looked closed--it's very unassuming from the outside and located in an older strip-style row of storefronts that gives off a bit of an old-west small-town vibe. Don't let that fool you though; once you step inside it's clear this is a very authentic Mexican spot. The interior is long and narrow. On the right side when you walk in there are bakery cases filled with a wide variety of traditional Mexican pastries and baked goods. On the left there's some seating and an ice cream area, and further toward the back there's a larger seating section that looks like it's used for their buffet (which we were told they offer on weekends). We visited on a Wednesday, so we ordered from the counter instead. The people working there were very friendly and welcoming, and the prices were very reasonable. I ended up ordering a cheese quesadilla with fries. The fries were actually excellent--crispy, salty, and exactly what you'd hope for. The quesadilla itself was okay. In fairness, this is clearly a place that specializes in more traditional Mexican dishes, and I probably didn't order the thing they're best known for. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food and pastries, this seems like a great local spot and it's definitely worth checking out. If your taste leans more toward American-style Mexican food, you might find the menu a little different than what you're used to. Overall, a friendly local bakery and restaurant with very fair prices and a lot of traditional options.

It was closed for a little bit, but has since re-opened. And we should all rejoice. La Buena Vista sports a menu that offers delicious treats such as Chicken Mole, Tortas, and traditional street Tacos. But, what makes them stand out from the competition is their signature homemade tortillas - a delicate balancing of flour and masa makes them both delicious and malleable, without cracking. If you haven't had a chance to swing by yet, do yourself a favor and make the trip!

Wrap me up in this burrito everyday... the sequel!…read more As we knew we'd be driving through Childress, we planned our timing around making sure we could stop here for breakfast. Again, we opted for the combination burrito which had sausage, chorizo, bacon, potatoes, cheese and beans all wrapped up in a HOMEMADE tortilla. The tortilla is one of my favorite parts as it's chewy, soft texture and slightly earthy, mildly sweet taste complements the filling to a T. You have the option of red or green (or both) salsas on the side. They are smaller containers of salsa so I'd get two of the kind you want. Fair warning, the green is a one-two-punch with heat! Again, it was BURRITO-FUL! As I stated in my first review, the staff is just the kindest! We had a great little convo with them before being handed our breakfast burritos. (: It's still the best road trip stop we've found! Can't wait to visit again... and again... and AGAIN!

Honestly all I have ever eaten here are the tacos (chicken, beef and pork) and their spanish rice. All are incredible. My suggestion is to order any of these tacos with lime, onion and cilantro in corn tortillas with green sauce (the lime and sauce come on the side). They are very small so if you are hungy you could honestly easily eat 6 minimum. I have ordered up to 12 myself.........yeah I know...........I was really really hungry though. I have seen the burritos and they are massive. Believe me.......one is enough. Lots of people in Canadian rave about their tortas (mexican sandwich burger type thing). The reason I give this place a five star is because in Canadian it is by far the best and most authentic mexican food there is. In Austin, Tx it would still be a four star though. Try it for sure!
