This place was quite nice and clean. When we entered the store manager was screening all the staff behind the counter by taking their temperature. They also had touch free delivery - all the packages were sealed and left at the front desk for pickup. Seemed very safe to pickup. We used the kiosk to place our order and the food tasted just like any other Taco Bell but seemed more nicely packed and hygienic.

I have been going to Taco Bell quite a bit but they quit selling their grilled cheese burrito I just thought that was amazing and then they brought it back but you could only get it ordering through their app and now they've completely done away with it boo-hoo they were completely addictive and then of course you order other things when you go there to get that $2.99 burrito Like ordering a second one for when you get home and you get those Taco Bell cravings

5 dollar nacho box is a dollar more expensive here, and includes a medium drink, notable when you're paying more for less

Mi Mexico - Pollo Asado burrito

Mi Mexico

Great little place with nice ambience and friendly, fast service! I don't know if I could call it…read morethe best Mexican food I've had, but for a burrito stuffed with a pepper stuffed with cheese, I couldn't complain. Vegetarian diners beware that the vegetarian burrito has been jettisoned from the version of the menu pictured, but there's still the chile relleno burrito (delicious) and a combo plate which I can believe be made veggie. Chips, salsa and an unremarkable cabbage slaw are served gratis. Our Modelos came with ice cold glasses with a Tajin rim. Portions were substantial, avocados were fresh, and the friendly service made me forget that earlier, at the Grand Canyon, a man of boomer age openly gestured to my relatively unobtrusive septum piercing and straight up laughed. This man is not equipped for the modern age. Anyways, it's a great place to settle down in a comfy booth, unroll a map of Colorado, and destress from hours of driving with somehow the same pickup truck always following a little too close behind you.

This was our final Mexican restaurant as one member of our group isn't a fan of Mexican and as they…read moreowned the vehicle we were using, a revolt was a real thing. Being told by a local that Cortez is in want of a good restaurant this is the best they had, we gave it a try. The food was okay and nothing to write home about. In fact, I have gotten far better Mexican along the East coast than this place, though the green chiles are better in this region. The chile colorado was okay at best. The refried beans were average. No one in the group was wowed about the dishes they had. Desserts were a bit perplexing. The churros arrived without the sugar and cinnamon. The sugar combo came in a saltshaker and when applied to the churro didn't stick. The sopapillas had a mixed viewpoint amongst us. No one really enjoyed them except for me. Overall, this is average. If you're in Cortez it may be the best Mexican restaurant they have.

Esmeraldas Ranchito Mexican Grocery Store - Tamale Choices

Esmeraldas Ranchito Mexican Grocery Store

We were drawn to Esmeraldas Ranchito Mexican Grocery Store after reading the reviews lauding the…read moretamales served at this family run store. Esmeraldas, very interestingly, is situated in a former gas station with the gas pumps removed. I believe they serve most items the entire day, so we were able to snag our tamales even though it was only 8AM. There were a couple of other customers inside and it seemed like everyone only visits for the food and not so much for the groceries. I ended up having to order in Spanish even though everything on the menu is in English. It's not an issue though as the person working is very friendly and and patient. Half Dozen Tamale ($13) - They had four types of tamale available for purchase: Beef (x2) - This tamale is filled with ground beef and corn in a red chile sauce, lending a reddish color to the masa wrapper. The masa is a little on the dry side and crumbles apart quite easily, but it doesn't stick to the corn husk much, allowing the tamale to stay well together during the unwrapping process. The beef is pretty lean and isn't seasoned that much, so it's a rather mild flavor. Chicken (x2) - The masa in this tamale completely sticks onto the corn husk, making the tamale basically completely fall apart while trying to unwrap. This might be due to construction - this tamale has a ton of filling, probably more filling than masa. The filling is basically shredded chicken in a light green chile sauce, complete with chile seeds. Like the beef tamale, this one is also on the dry side. The texture of the chicken is very similar to canned tuna and sticks to the teeth while eating. It's very tender without any gristle. Pork (x1) - The pork is shredded well into almost a Chinese pork floss-like texture. Since we ate this later (not on the same day) we ended up steaming the tamale and I have to say that the reheating process really amps up the moisture levels and makes the masa succulent and the meat not necessarily juicy, but definitely not dry. Cheese (x1) - This one smells the best by far. The filling includes plenty of fatty cheese, giving moisture and a good mouthfeel, and is embedded with pieces of tomato, onion, and green chile. The flavors meld together quite well, and due to the extra moisture, this is the most pleasing to eat. I've had tamales before that are still very good even with lukewarm. These ones, on the other hand, have to be eaten fresh or otherwise reheated via steaming. With that being said, when fresh, the tamales Esmeraldas serves are just as the other reviews state - delicious.
