While visiting Michigan, I stopped into Gilley's and ordered a custom breakfast plate because I'm on a special diet. It was so good that I came back twice. I've jokingly started calling it the "El San Diego" breakfast plate. The pork was flavorful, the food was fresh, and everything was cooked perfectly. What really stood out was the service. On my return visit, the owner remembered my order and personally whipped up the same El San Diego breakfast plate for me again. It was just as incredible the second time. Friendly staff, great food, great ambiance, and genuine 5 star hospitality. As a Southern California Mexican food snob, I can honestly say Gilley's exceeded my expectations. I'll definitely be back a third time before I leave.

After a quick Yelp search, we found Gilly's and are glad we did! The restaurant is tucked away in an old business district...many of the neighboring businesses are closed. It has a parking area in the back but we just parked on the street out front. The staff was very friendly when we ordered at the counter. I ordered a wet burrito. (For those not from around here-it's basically a burrito with some sauce on top). It was very good and I couldn't finish it all. My husband and son both ordered quesadillas, which they liked. My husband said his steak quesadilla was a bit greasy but that was the only negative of our whole meal. We also shared some street corn fries, which we loved. It was street corn on top of fries. I loved the corn so much that I will just get a side of that on my next visit-but the fries were great too. The menu doesn't say it but they told me they would also make items with corn tortillas if a gluten free dish is needed. This may be a new favorite in Bay City! The location is a little out of the way but definitely worth finding!

Food took 16 min after I ordered which is fine for a restaurant but not for tacos. I got the chicken apple taco and the pulled pork taco. The chicken apple taco was fine, I wish the apples brought more flavor instead of just the texture. Now the pulled pork bbq taco I was looking forward to since I really like bbq pulled pork. The pulled pork taco didn't have much pulled pork and was mostly sauce, the avocado cream was way overpowering and abundant where sometimes you would just get a bite of avocado, and the bbq sauce was barely there, wish there was more I could add myself on the table. Overall I was disappointed but I guess I didn't try all the options.

The first day I went there for lunch and took my husband later for dinner. I went on a Thursday and their special was fajitas. I ordered one and had several condiments added taco style. I also had rice and beans added on the side. For dinner my husband had 2 steak burritos, and I had the same. As a dessert I had this incredible cherry, cinnamon and sugar puffy fried thing which I can't remember the name of, but it was delish. On Friday I ordered a chicken burrito (which was big) with cheese, lettuce etc. added. The choice of meats were shredded chicken shredded pork or beef. I also bought 2 containers of huge blueberry muffins. There were 2 in each container. On Friday they offered blueberry, but sometimes they have apple and one other variety but I don't remember what that was. The muffins were better than I have ever had, but very rich. Saturday I ordered a chimichanga which was deep fried and so big I could not eat it all and had the rest for dinner. Every day they were so busy, 5 or 6 people were in front of me. Saturday the wait time was a little longer because everyone was ordering chimichangas, which took a little longer to prepare. I suggest calling your order in and you can get right in and pick it up. It seems a lot of people ordered that way. Especially at lunch time. on Thursday and Friday. Everything I ordered was fresh made and very good. I highly Reccommend this gem of a place, you won't be disappointed.

Just what you would expect for a Saturday. We were seated promptly and our order was taken promptly. Then we waited, and waited, and waited... nearly 45 minutes for our food to come out. I mean come on. It's a Mexican restaurant that bills itself as a bit upscale. I ordered the ribeye with an add on of grilled shrimp and my wife ordered the steak fajita's. I have to admit. THAT Ribeye was absolutely fantastic! The grilled shrimp were also very good. Not $10 up charge good, but good. My wife's fajitas were just kind of ho hum. Nothing special whatsoever. In the end, with tip and zero alcoholic beverages our bill was just shy of a $100. For an "upscale" Mexican dinner. There are much better Mexican Food alternatives for that kind of money in Bay City. Don't get me wrong... the food was very good. Just not $100 good.

Apparently they are completely clueless on both phone etiquette and how to run a business. After confirming I didn't just call some random person, I asked for a takeout order, so she forwarded the phone back to the bar. The guy who picked up the phone sounded confused when I asked for takeout, and immediately put me on hold. At that point I went, "F it, this is pathetic" and hung up. Of course Krazy Juan's is yet another fake, overpriced Dow restaurant that their execs eat at when "slumming it" having business meetings in Bay City.

The meat itself was super tender but still moist, then the char brought out all the flavor. I tried the sauces, all of which were good but the meat was the star of the show.
