Good food! Randomly saw this place as I made a wrong turn onto Russell ave while waiting for my GPS to recalculate. I saw brightly colored writing on the store front that said MEXICAN FOOD..so I had to pull over. The place itself is small, and the parking was slightly crazy this day, but those 2 factors are the makings of any good food place. I ordered the flautas (which they also call taquitos) and carne asada combos, and a side of chips and gauc...and we enjoyed it! I love their style of chips because they were fresh, crispy, and hot when given to me. However, I do prefer (traditional) flautas cause of the flour tortilla wrapping, as opposed to the corn tortilla that was actually served, hence the 4 out of 5 stars. Overall, the food was tasty and had a home-cooked feel to it. If I need a quick, delicious Mexican food fix, this will likely be my go-to place. The lady taking my order was very polite and patient with me because I wasn't sure what I wanted to order (I wanted everything...and therefore had severe sensory overload!!). The food was decent; it did not "wow" us. We ordered a beef tongue and pastor taco combo and Carne Asada. Taco was delicious but needed a bit more flavoring to it. After adding lime juice and a dash of salt, it was good. I love the salsa bar and how fresh it was! Carne Asada was okay... Second time calling 30 mins ahead and they hadn't even started my order when I arrived.

We were on the area and wanted something quick and small, I yelped and found this place and figured taco is always a good idea. My husband went to place the order of one combo of three tacos and a drink. It took them FORTY MINUTES!!!! 40 minutes for 3 tacos, people! Yes, the place seemed busy with people coming and going but our order took the longest. I have no idea why, because according to my husband the people coming in were placing their orders and getting them filled, not like they placed it online and came in to pick up... this anticipation and wait time for a really simple meal has totally ruined the appetite. Two words to start off. Authentic and delicious! A patient of mine mentioned a local taco bar that I needed to try. Due to my upbringing and heritage I have a strong urge to fill most of my diet with Mexican and Tex/Mex foods. I've always been told that you can tell how good a particular ethnic or culturally different (different in the sense that it does make up only a small portion of the predominant races in the area) that if you see the majority of the people in the restaurant to be of the same ethnicity as the food being served then you know it will be more authentic. I found this to be very true. Everyone in the restaurant was speaking Spanish which I find to be a beautiful language, and I am slowly trying to learn more and more of it. The cashier's English was ok, but not so bad we weren't able to get exactly what we wanted. I used the check-in option at this restaurant through yelp and was rewarded with a free taco. I had already ordered 3 steak tacos, so for the free one I chose chorizo. When you get the food they have a bar set up to garnish your tacos. The salsas were good and fresh and one was very hot(amazing). My wife didn't like the lack of sour cream and cheese. I told her that is not how tacos are traditionally served. The tacos were so good. The marinated steak and the chorizo really made what could have been an ordinary taco into so much more! I was so happy to find this place! I can't wait to go back! This is much more of an authentic taco place than say chipotle aka they don't have sour cream. What?? lol I was like y'all just out or something but no no they really don't carry sour cream. All is well. I decided to get the chicken quesadilla. The chicken was juicy and it was about 3 different kinds of cheese. Like a Mexican blend. It was delicious! Even without my beloved sour cream. This is definitely not a place you accidentally stroll into. Sandwiched between a gas station and a liquor store, Taco Bar is easy to overlook. The "decor" is definitely underwhelming given the fact that it is quite literally amount the liquor store shelves and there's about four or five tables in the cramped area. ....but who cares about all that when the food is so good!! Service was also super fast and helpful. The tacos come with a double tortilla and tonnnns of filling so one taco equals two for me. This is what I got: Steak taco - Awesome! I thought it was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Pork taco - I usually really dislike pork but this was soooo good! Whatever the seasoning/marinade was is really good and once again it wasn't dry at all. Chicken taco - I personally didn't like the chicken at all. I was expecting cubed pieces like the steak and pork but the chicken was shredded. The marinade wasn't good in my opinion either. I definitely wouldn't get this again. Chicken quesadilla - Once again, I didn't really like this because I didn't really like the chicken in general. It was also very thin with not much chicken or cheese. Rice - I really liked it, perfect side dish to everything. Refried beans - I usually HATE refried beans but this was soooo good. There's also a little toppings bar to the side where you can add whatever you want to customize your tacos. I wasn't a fan of any of the sauces, they were all really watered down and mostly tasteless. I loved the pico de gallo and I went ahead and overdosed on all the cilantro possible. All in all the food was really great and I got three tacos (which actually makes six tacos for me), two quesadillas, rice, beans, and a soda for ~$19. I will definitely be going back and will be trying out the lengua taco and the burrito. I personally didn't like the chicken at all so I'll be staying away from that next time. The pastor at taco bar has to be hands down, the best pastor I've ever had in my life. Now, I'm only 28, so who knows what's to come in the future of pork eating, but it's definitely the juiciest, most flavor pastor I've tried. We ordered pork and chicken tacos, and pork and chicken quesadillas. Pork was obviously my favorite, but the chicken was juicy as well. They shredded the chicken and coated it in some sauce. I think there could have been more flavor to it, but I wasn't disappointed by either. The tacos come bare on corn tortillas and you add all your toppings and sauces from the toppings bar. Pico needs more heat and citrus, but the salsas were all tasty. Seating is limited in the restaurant, and so is the parking outside. We ended up parking over at another lot, hoping the car didn't get towed...we lucked out. The restaurant also has some taco Tuesday specials and fish tacos on a certain day of the week. I'm not sure if this taco bar is partnered with the taco bar next to the gas station by Rio and Crown, but they have a similar menu minus some items...like a BOWL. I liked them all. Tacos were tasty and HUGE compared to all other favorite taco joints in the area--Tortacos, the other Taco Bar, all the Baja Freshes you can think of, and all other holes-in-the-wall! In response to the restaurant- it definitely was not quesadillas that I ordered unless you make quesadillas with a bunch of meat and no cheese? Also- we opened the burrito to confirm no beans- nice try though! You should talk to your employees rather than make the customer feel like they were wrong. Thank you. The food was good/okay but they don't put beans in the burritos? And my tacos were served with flour tortillas instead of corn. We ordered everything on the menu.....well maybe not everything. We had carne asada tacos, steak and cheese torta, chicken flautas, chori-Cheese Taco. Everything was good. The asada was a little dry but wasn't salty. The torta needed more frijoles and carne asada but it was still big enough for 2. However, based on my last few visits, including last night, I have to give it 3. It really deserves 2 but I'm giving it an extra for the history we have there. This used to be an owner-operated place with good food and decent prices. The prices have gone up and the quality has decreased. The food is too salty for my taste. The warmth is no longer there, and I don't see a reason to drive 10 miles to eat there anymore (which I used to do quite frequently). When i called the restaurant they said they noticed the order was missing food but were too busy to tell the uber driver. This place is quite a hidden gem. Though average to any other restaurant such as this one, it shines brightly with its comfy atmosphere, feels like home, and nice and quiet staff. My favorite was the "Burrito Plato" with Lengua. If you were to eat here the bowls look small but don't let the looks trick you, it actually filling. read more

This place gets some really low reviews for some reason...and I milked this place for all it was worth with the yelp deal ($10 for $20 worth of food) while it lasted. For those who do not know, this is the original Taco Bar. The one that gets 4.5* is Taco Bar II. To the best of my knowledge, it is run by the same family and while it is not exactly the same, there is a lot of overlap in the selections. In my opinion, most of the tacos (pollo, and pastor) are on par with Taco Bar II. You'll notice fewer condiments at the fixin bar + lack of freshly prepared salsa and fixins. However, the quality does come quite close. Besides the tacos, everything else is questionable. I am not a fan of their tortas, sope, tostadas, burritos, you name it. As the yelp deal has expired, I find no reason to go to a place farther away from my home that is inferior in quality and selections...but while it lasted....1/2 price tacos were swwwwwwwweeettt. read more

The location is pretty hidden but the place is well kept, cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen at a "fast food" establishment. The prices are unbelievably low so your definitely getting your moneys worth! The staff is friendly and helpful! SO one day i decided to use the deal. $20 worth of food. Heres what i got: Saudero sope: bland, flavorless, just bad...even with the toppings from the topping bar Al pastor tostada: tasty, crunchy, flavorful. The al pastor meat has small chunks of pineapple which gives it that sweetness. Bistec burrito: Terrible. Nothing but rice, beans, and a little bit of steak with cheese. Pretty tasteless and boring. Worst burrito ever. Taco bell makes better burritos than this crap. Sincronizada w/ al pastor: How is this different from a quesadilla?! Pretty bad still even with the al pastor. 3 Tacos: Al pastor, saudero, carne asada. They were alright, but no where near as big or as good as Taco Bar II. Horchata: Tasted a little watered down. Also the fact that it was ladled out of an open air bowl was unappetizing. Save your money folks and go to the other taco bar cuz this place is just bad. read more

I love this place! I work right on Montgomery village and boy is this place a blessing. Iv probably tried almost everything on the menu. Raul is extremely friendly and helpful when one can't make up their mind and pick something from the menu. The menu is displayed on multiple tv screens with pictures to help, they have a great variety on their lunch specials and a toppings bar. The place is always decorated and clean. I think they even cater now for parties and big events. I do have to say that my favorite are the gringas al pastor. I will continue to come here for many years no doubt. 5 stars. read more

They hand me the bag tied up, but hey my order is simple enough. I get home and open my order and it's my receipt, with the right order, and my taquitos, but with a side of rice. My two tacos are nowhere to be found. I call to ask what had happened because I was already home, I didn't want to have to drive back out in order to have it fixed.
