I love Tabletop! It's one of my favorite spots in Columbus! Tons of board games, super friendly employees, and my favorite, the fancy hot chocolate!! It's was a great date night idea. We could have stayed for even longer if we didn't have to get back to the kidos.

I've decided to review this spot after two visits; I'm pretty sure it's solid. :) First time was during the afternoon to meet a new friend and get to know him better. We had a good time perusing the games and reminiscing over childhood memories until we found a trivia one to play. While waiting for our lunches, we got down to the business of proving our superior brain power or more likely, which answers we'd already memorized. The second time was over the Thanksgiving holiday when meeting friends who were visiting from out of town. The kids are in their teens and the 7 of us had a good time noshing on hummus and chips, sandwiches, and drinking tea and hot chocolate to stay warm while playing. There was a table stand at one of the other tables indicating new players were welcome. It's an easy way to let people know it was okay to approach, ask questions, and even join in the game. The staff was knowledgeable about the game library and offered us several suggestions for our large party. We ended up playing Spy and Pantone which were both fun. Spent a pleasurable evening at the tabletop Cafe in Columbus. We started with a hummus basket which was actually very tasty. The hummus came with pita triangles and carrots. During the appetizer we played a yuck game of Bananagrams, but decided on a good old fashioned game of Settlers of Catan. My friend has the pesto turkey panini and I had the pepperoni bagel pizza. Both were good. Staff was solicitous and kept our glasses full. I liked that they had Cheerwine cherry soda and some other small batch soda bottles. I will likely go back. Our kids visited Tabletop for a class trip and came home BEGGING for us to take them here. We finally caved, and I'm glad we did. Spend a minimum of $6 per person and you can stay as long as you'd like and play any games from their massive selection. We went with another family so we sat the kids at one table and the adults played at another and we had a great time. We had some beverages and a few flights of snacks. Everything was moderately priced and they had a good selection of beverages from sodas to La Croix to coffees and teas to craft beers. YOU WILL NOT LEAVE THIRSTY! The food looked good and was reasonably priced, but we stuck with the snacks on this visit. The staff was super kind and accommodating and did a really great job of reminding the kids of the rules without being overbearing. As a parent, I appreciate the heck out of their approach. All in all we had a good time and we will certainly return but I was sad/shocked/stunned/dismayed there were no Dutch Blitz decks on the shelves. read more

Ever since I moved to Columbus, I have never known places like this have existed in these United States. But there is a place to go where you can play tabletop games all day if you wanted to and it just happens to be in Columbus, Ohio? While hanging out with one of my friends, we got a group together to go play tabletop games before I had to work. When we walked in, there were a few groups there. But after a couple hours, the place was packed! We were lucky enough to get a good seat and one of our favorite games before the rush. This place offers snacks and finger food which is very convenient when you're playing Settlers of Catan or Scrabble. I have visited this place quite a few times but it just seemed like it gets better all everytime due to all the new games that they get as well as the ones they let you buy as well. Another great experience at Tabletop! My family and I went to the Family Game Day on a Sunday and were able to try 4 Ravensburger games with the help of the owner. We had been hesitant for a while to take our kids to this place because I wasn't sure how long gaming would hold my youngest one's attention. My older daughter loves playing and I bet we could spend an entire afternoon there with her. We found that they have games for all ages, even the little ones, so all of us found games we really liked, even my 5 year-old! The kids each inhaled a cheese pizza bagel (which looked delicious, but I didn't even get a bite!) and my wife and I enjoyed the iced coffee and cafe latte. The kids found some games they want for at home, but it's nice to know we can go there and try them out first. read more

The selection here is amazing. They have so many games that I've never heard of! It's perfect for both people who are board game aficionados as well as casual players. The vibe is nice and friendly, with bright light, clean bathrooms. More of a cafe than pub/bar, though they do serve alchoholic drinks. But it's totally an appropriate place to bring kids, especially in the daytime. The staff was really kind and helpful! They weren't at all judgemental when we went in with no clue about what we wanted to play. They made two great recommendations. They have both healthy and fun (un-healthy) snacks, both of which are good. This is how it works - Spend $6 on food and or beverage and you can stay and play any game for as long as the store is open. They will open a tab for you so you can purchase items during your stay. As long as you spend at least $6 then you have done the right thing. Grab a game from the huge wall with selections marked out by age and players. Have a seat and enjoy your food and beverage along with your game! I highly recommend this place, as I love the idea of having food for sale and getting to play games. Awesome gaming store! Patrick was so pleasant and patiently explained the whole set up: It costs $6 per person (kids 12 [if I'm remembering correctly...?] and under are free) here. You can pay that, sit, chill, get on your computer, play Bejeweled, or spend at least $6 at the cafe on food/drinks and play games! There's a good selection of board games. All the way from simple 52-cards deck, to card games, to math, matching, and more complex Sim City-esque jaunts. Plenty of tables and outlets. The white walls and bright orange accents open the space up nicely. Perfect place to come with a group, or just as well solo. Tip: If you're solo, and want to play a game that takes multiple people to play, there's there's cards you can put at your table so other patrons can read and join if they'd like. This place is so much fun! We went with our kids and were greeted by a friendly staff member who took several minutes to explain how it works and how to choose a game. This place is such a cool concept. You come and spend at least $6 on food and drink and you get access to so many games! Heads up, the parking lot is small, and several of the businesses next to it have signs that say you can only park in those spots if you're going to that specific business, so you may have to go to the end of the parking lot where there's no sign. For my meal, I had a reuben and some mead (which wasn't as sweet as I was expecting). My favorite games to play here are Telestrations and The Mind. An essential spot for tabletop gamers whether locals or visitors to Columbus. The excellent games library is equaled by the friendly and helpful management and staff, ensuring it's an all-inclusive space. I'm a weekly regular for the minipainting night every Wednesday but habitually make use of the library. They helpfully color-code the games with designations like "Beginner" and "Hardcore" and even host Dungeons&Dragons learning sessions for kids and adults. Be sure to check their calendar for upcoming events. Can't leave out their awesome coffee and tea selection (Stauff's makes their own blend!) and my favorite part...their craft beer, mead, and cider bar! Rounding this all out is a full menu of NA beverages, snacks, cookies, and full meals including vegan and vegetarian options. read more

The owner and staff here are fantastic. Unlike some of the other board game shops around Columbus, you only have to buy $6 worth of food/beverages instead of a cover charge. Since they have a very good beer selection for such a small place, and the prices for the beer are very reasonable, it's too easy to spend the minimum $6, and also get to enjoy playing games. The owner also allows you to bring in your own games, you just have to spend $6. Very cool. My only criticism would be to improve the game selection. But since you're allowed to bring your own games, this criticism is mostly mitigated. I don't give out a lot of 5 stars, so at a 4 star rating I would highly recommend. read more

Such a cool new concept close to home in Northern Clintonville. My roommates and I checked it out last week. Had lattes and empanadas while we played a few new card games we've never seen before. Sushi Go is our new favorite! Such a huge selection of brand new games--we definitely want to go back! They even have some of their games for sale brand new in package. They'll offer wine and beer in the coming months along with their selection of espresso drinks, sodas, snacks and empanadas. This place is really cool. Basically they have a large variety of board/tabletop games that you can play (for free) while having a snack or drink. The people working there do a great job of helping you pick out games and even tell you how to play. The food they offer is limited--they sell empanadas, espresso drinks, hot tea, bottled beverages and they have a flight of snacks. I usually get the flight, I think it's $6 for 4 (maybe 4oz cups) of snacks of your choice. They have candies, nuts etc etc. I love coming here with my stepdaughters. There are so many games to play and if we don't enjoy the game we're playing, we put it back and start another. They've been enjoying playing Gloom--which is totally dark and hilarious. It does get busy here, so we avoid evening weekends, but there are plenty of tables, booths to sit at. They have free wifi also. It does get loud in there, but it hasn't been too bad for us. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes tabletop games, or for people with kids. The owners seem super chill and completely calm about kids--being kids :) read more

We really like this place. As others have said, it's a fun place to go and play some games you may not have. Since that's its primary purpose, I have to say it succeeds at that. I would like it if the food selection were a little more robust. I've never had anything bad there, and our deluxe hummus plate that we had recently was nice and a good value, with some vegetables and grapes to go with the pita and hummus that come with the standard hummus. I would like to see more food options though. The drink menu is quite satisfying though. We had a draft imperial stout that was delicious. read more

I have only been to 2 board game centric establishments in Columbus: Tabletop Game Cafe and Kingmakers. I strongly prefer Tabletop. Some of the reasons I prefer Tabletop are they have an excellent selection of games, they waive the fee for using their library of games if you buy drinks/food (Kingmakers does not), and it is a very spacious place. The staff was also very helpful and patient in explaining a confusing game to us. read more

I had seen this place and intended to stop in someday. My coworkers were looking for a place to get together and play games, so I suggested this spot. We all loved it! Some of them stayed until closing on a Saturday night, and even went back the next day to play more. There is no fee to play the games. You just need to spend $6 per person. That can be on food/snacks, coffee, or even buying games. They have a small selection of games you can buy, but a huge selection of games to play! The snacks seem a little overpriced, but considering that you aren't also paying to play, it turns out to be a pretty good deal. I tried the coffee, which was excellent (and free refills!). I also had a hummus plate, which was very good. It was a small container of hummus, with some pitas and baby carrots. Those were some of the fattest baby carrots I've ever seen! I didn't try the empanadas, but everyone at my table was raving over them, and several people went back up to get more! Probably my only complaint would be my comfort level while playing. We had a large group, and the only table large enough for us was a high table where we sat on stools. It's a little hard not to have a chair back to lean into for several hours of game-playing. The chairs at the other tables wouldn't have worked, though, because of the height of the table. If you have 4 players or fewer, you can sit in a booth or regular chairs. Went here for the first time with my brother and some friends. It's a really cute spot that is great for families and groups of friends. They have cool local beers and foods. The "OH chips" are locally made and are delicious!! Great to snack on while you play games. I also got the "Spider Bite" drink which was a really good local hard cider with 2 shots of hibiscus liqueur ("Viking's Blood"). It tasted like a fruity drink but was pretty boozy and delicious! They have literally every board game you could want and you only have to spend $6/hr on food/drinks/merch while you're there. The food is also super delicious and I was impressed they had seitan for vegetarians. I got the seitan Reuben which is one of my favorite vegetarian "fake meat" sandwiches and it was pretty good. They also gave me cucumbers and hummus as a side instead of the regular options which was really nice. I enjoyed this place more than I anticipated I would. They are a much better value than other game cafés, rather than charging an entrance fee, and for food and drink, you get to play games as long as you make a $6 minimum food or retail purchase per person. While the game selection could have been better, we did find a few games that we enjoyed. They, like the others, had more copies of Apples to Apples and Cranium than necessary, and I would have liked to see more nostalgic games. I'm also fairly certain that my snickerdoodle latte was missing the snickerdoodle flavoring, but it was a good, rich, latte. They had a decent snack offering, so it was easy to spend the $6 each. I've been to Tabletop four times, and you know, I really want to like this place. The concept is great, and since it's not located in a basement in the Short North, Tabletop already surpasses Kingmaker's. The environment is cozy and colorful. The game selection is good and always growing, and I don't mind paying the $6 for coffee or a beer. What I do mind is the staff. It seems like every time I go to Tabletop, I witness some kind of issue, like these guys are almost trying to make sure patrons are NOT having fun. Case in point: I have a pretty restrictive diet, so I brought an orange to eat. The three others at my table purchased empanadas, sodas, a candy flight, and hot chocolates. I had two coffees, meaning that between the four of us, we far exceeded the required $24. But when an employee saw the orange peels on our table, he sneered at me, "I better not see another orange peel over here, or we're gonna have a problem" and turned on his heel. I was blown away and couldn't speak, although I would have loved to see what kind of "problem" this teenager was going to cause for me. It's just a game cafe. Tabletop has become one of my favorite spots! It's a super wholesome spot that attracts everyone from groups of high schoolers to young adults looking to nerd it up over some board games. The staff is super friendly and helpful in explaining how things work and helping you with games. One of the employees, (thanks Liz!), even insisted on helping out our table when she wasn't on the clock! Super nice. As other users have mentioned, you have to spend $6 on food or drink to play. Most of the food is pretty meh, including the empanadas. The snack bowls are also super small. Your best bet is to get a sandwich, a beer, a flight of snacks, or one of their coffee drinks (my friend got cookies and cream hot chocolate over ice and that was super good). Not a place to have a nice dinner or to get wasted with your friends, but a great spot to do exactly what it says it is-play board games. read more
