I have passed this establishment a few times and always wanted to check it out, and finally had the…read moreopportunity to do so. It does not show up too well on GPS, I had to drive perhaps another half block until I found the actual place. It is very easy to pull in and find parking. I purchased three Mums and they had cute white pumpkins as well as a lawn stake with a pumpkin for the Fall. I had a customer butt in front of me in line which was very rude (and he KNEW what he was doing) which I didn't like, but that isn't the establishment's fault. The mums were also a fabulous price. They are huge and were cheaper than the ones my family got at other garden places. The employees outside were nice to me, I will be back!

I usually visit Home Depot but I was at the Farm & Garden Station a few weeks ago buying a set of Chicagoland Boxwoods. The person who assisted us then was knowledgeable and we asked alot of questions due to it being the first time we have ever planted a hedge. Today I wanted to go back since I had a decent experience previously. The lot was completely full and I had to park in the furthest section of the lot. I went into the flower section and asked the first red hooded employee I saw where the Impatiens were. There were 2 other employees in the same area and the employee I asked pointed them out. As a took a step away, I heard one of the workers say out loud, "Guys, Keep a Look Out!" I paused and thought was that about me?" Was I up to something? Did I not look like I belonged? I was going to ask what was that supposed to mean as I looked up and turned and all 3 were now looking at me. I won't judge your workers for working at a nursery if they don't judge me for my appearance. It goes both ways. If you have a theft problem, that's your issue. I'm only there to spend money. Not take BS from your staff.

More Than a Shop: A Local Arboretum with Heart…read more If you are looking for a place that is truly down-to-earth, this is it. The staff are consistently kind and helpful--even during the peak of summer when the shop is packed with young seasonal workers who are clearly well-trained in customer support. Walking through the Flower Station in early spring feels more like exploring an arboretum than a store. The uneven, curvy paths are so inviting that I often find myself walking the loop several times just to take it all in. On my last visit, I had a "5+ star" experience. Only Paul and the owner, Kevin, were there, and both were incredibly heartfelt, knowledgeable, and supportive. This is the place to go for affordable, high-quality, (watered!) plants. While you might not find the rarest or most exotic species, everything I have ever bought here has stayed healthy and thrived. Between the fair pricing and their generous policy of sending gift cards for your next purchase, it's a total win. At Flower Station, you can only gain, grow, and save.

I needed mums to replant my gardens and large pots, so I ran down to the corner, Bridge In Season…read moreCorner that is. Better known as Bridge's to the locals, this is a seasonal outdoor nursery which is open Spring throughout the Fall. I have numerous nurseries in my area and feel compelled to divide my business between them, since they are all family owned and they all offer a nice selection of quality grown plants, shrubs and trees, plus very friendly service. Some offer more in the way of ornamental plants, larger hanging baskets and lawn decorations. Bridge's also supports the local farmers by selling their corn and some other produce for them. We have a squirrel feeder and we try to keep it full at all times so they leave the birds food alone. At the end of the Fall season they allow hubby to come down and pick all the leftover corn from the unsold stalks. I have been slowly cleaning out my flower beds and I love to plant mums here and there for the season. This is the second generation of running this business and they have grown to provide more and more services. They now deliver truckloads of varied mulch or stone at a reasonable price. I like to buy my mums here because they are field grown, they often will come back the next year because they have good strong roots, plus I am then supporting the farmer's and Bridge's. I decorate everything all year long and if you stand still long enough, I will decorate you too, just ask hubby.
