Whenever I am in town I definitely have to make a stop here. The food is good, the prices are decent, and the staff is friendly. The wait time is a little longer than most people usually like, but the food is cooked to order not just reheated fast food! The donuts are exceptional and worth every penny. This is the north woods of Minnesota; don't expect a gaggle of choices of where to eat. The prices may be a little high, but good food, and sassy waitresses don't come cheap. The decor is simple north-woods rustic, and the staff will provide anything they can put on your plate to keep you happy. I had a BLT with a fried egg and home made unsweetened iced-tea; Helen had a bowl of soup and curly fries that would make Arby's envy. This was a great stop and a good value at $18.15. Perfect place to grab breakfast after turning in our house boat on Crane Lake - had the stuffed hash browns with eggs and they were great. Husband had the biscuits and gravy special and he enjoyed them too. Our friend got a homemade sourdough cinnamon roll and it was delicious! read more

This place is great. It's definitely slow because they make everything to order and it's a family-run business, but the food is delicious and affordable. I was really hoping this place would be decent. The hash browns are not crispy at all. The omelet appeared be just scrambled eggs folded together with cheese on top. When your town has one stoplight and they turn it off at night, it is hard to have a gourmet restaurant. Pattenn's is the only restaurant in the town of Orr which is open 7 days a week for breakfast lunch and dinner. You actually take a few steps down into the restaurant which is below grade. The pancakes are good and they are famous for their Big Donuts. If you are in a hurry to just grab something and go, this is not the place for you. Food takes a while to be served, but the prices are extremely affordable. The dinners are not the best, but on a Monday night they will do. Definitely will provide you with local flavor. read more

Assigning this a single star was tough, the only good part was the initial smile and hello. We sat for 5 minutes before receiving a menu. For the amount of food we received...the price is too high. We had to wait 35 minutes for them to bring our food down from the upstairs kitchen! And when the waitress arrived, her body language made me feel like we were to hurry and get out. The crowd was small, as it usually is in small town cafes. My fiance's food: the potatoes were cold, the ham was hard, the toast was the first thing prepared and left to cool. My food: the only thing luke warm was the bacon. "The ham was hard enough to fix the roof!". No one approached us to see if we needed refills or how the food was. Guess they knew. You have to remember this is a small town cafe and can't expect gourmet food. That being said, this is a fine example of a small town cafe. The first thing you notice coming in is the pastry cabinet and the "farmers table" where the locals come, sit, eat, gossip, and leave at a community table. We only ate at the cafe twice, both times for breakfast. Both times, I had a homemade twist pastry. It was obviously homemade and fresh, and they warmed it for me. They have plain, apple, cherry, blueberry, and peanut butter. It was about ten inches long and two inches thick and very filling. That and coffee and I was satisfied. The rest of the party of six had similar pastries such as caramel rolls and very large sugar or glazed donuts. These are not French pastries but as good as the ones my mother made when I was a child. The menu included other typical breakfast items such as eggs, bacon, French toast, pancakes, etc. but my party who had been there before raved about the pastries so that's what I had.
