The place was so lively, and what made it even more special was the Christmas decorations. The service was a bit slow, but it was understandable since the place was packed. We ordered a summer salad, calamari and sushi for starters. We then had shrimp pasta and grilled tuna. Everything was amazing. read more

I honestly thought this was going to be a tourist scam. It looked too good to be true. A great patio, designed for spending the afternoon people watching. There was no menu, as far as I could tell, which is always a bit of a red flag in tourist areas. BUT NO! Just good beer, great vibe and tasty food. I spent an enjoyable hour or so watching the world go by and wondering why there are not more places like this in the States. A good place to while away the afternoon. We were looking for a dinner place and happened upon this gem. The building was built in 1432 and is very interesting especially after being modernized. The outside area had space heaters so was comfortable but we were seated inside. The waitstaff was very attentive and worked together to see to our needs. We each had a glass of wine which was around 4 euros. I had onion soup (7 euros) and chicken satay (16 euros) and enjoyed them both. Hubby had the portobello mushroom with spinach and the fish and toast platter (14 euros) and said both were delicious. The restrooms are way upstairs; the ladies room was cold but clean. The place has a fantastic location and a large outdoor seating area. The outdoor seating area is heated very well, so you can sit there comfortably for hours to enjoy a beer or a wine. But that's where your expectations for this place should end, because it's not suited to get a delicious meal. We waited a few minutes to be seated (despite almost empty restaurant) and ended up picking our own table. The male server came to our table about 10 minutes later to bring our tea and coffee. Tea was brought with sugar but without a spoon. 10 minutes later a different waitress came to take our order. We ordered sandwiches which came on delicious bread - but completely dry and unfresh lettuce and tomatoes. So, depends on your expectation when coming in here. This is a nice centrally located bar with a great menu and a good size if you are traveling with a group. Their patio is also very good for people watching and comfortable. I found the service to be a little slow but still high quality when it came. The food was excellent and there was some great choice on the menu. The chef may have had a little extra beetroot left in the kitchen because EVERYTHING had a healthy dollop of some sort of beetroot sauce which not everyone in our group appreciated. The value for money seemed to be pretty aligned with most of the restaurants too. I would recommend and would happily go back. read more

Large patio seating with an interesting mix of items. The flank steak was very good and cooked perfectly to my taste. Chimi churi was well made and went well with the steak. Fried potatoes (chips) very well done, Crispy on the outside with good flavor. The Merlot was very good. The creme brûlée was pistachio- would not order it again - undercooked custard (runny) and not well executed as it could have been. A simple brûlée would have been ideal. Signature 3 breads in one, with butter as a table dish. Fresh and flavorful. The taxi dropped us about 30 meters from the location as you must walk to the site. While a bit cool outside the patio was pleasant. Noise is a bit high at times - streetcar with bad bearings #16 on a repeating circuit. Wait staff did well. The table salad was not a good choice for us. The Photos under the patio came out with a reddish hue - did not want to disturb others with a flash. - solely my photography - the food looked great! read more

We ordered red wine. It was almost hot. This is very rare that we received hot red wine. But this time, it was exceptionally hot. Don't they know red wine shouldn't be hot? Also, we ordered a half lobster for 20 euros. There was so little. It's shameful. I ate it in almost 20seconds. WTF?! The fries were the same you can it at McDonald. First time it happened that I'm still hungry after a visit to a restaurant... Also, waiters are not really happy to see you... C'mon, you can do four times better than that. Spend a day here while in The Hague - it was raining and I needed a refuge. They have fast wifi, cheap drinks, good food and fast service. Hard to judge food quality since I ordered the "dutch" meal which I'm guessing anyone that is Dutch probably doesn't actually order here. It was good but a bit starchy for my tastes with a cheese sandwich, potato salad, and a croquette sandwich. Not sure whether it gives away a foreigner but dipping the cheese sandwich in the tomato soup was good. Great place to watch people walk by in the plein in front. And there's an awning over the outside seating if it's either drizzly or you want to duck out from the sun. Bumped up a star for location, accommodation, and friendly service. Also yelp says its closed today (sunday) but it was open. Not sure if it might have anything to do with father's day or day after Flag Day.. read more

Ordered a sandwich filet American. Should be easy enough to make but somehow they were able to make the filet taste like a mixture of mayonaise with pickles with just a hint of filet. After the renovation the old interior has been changed to something that resembles the inside of a cheap club. Would give it only one star if not for the waitress. The second star is for her: she was fast, friendly, and sincere in her concern when we told her we did not like the sandwiches. read more

This is a very cool building indeed. By the outside looks of it, it doesn't do much for me, except a large outside dining area with heaters that will do the trick on a cold and rainy day. On the inside however this building is OF THE HOOK. It really blows my mind. This is an old building that has multiple dining areas, one cooler than the other (fire places running, I mean, yes please!). Reasonable prices and ok service (would not say wow, but ok). What gives this place only 3 stars is the lack of respect for my food allergies. It took two reminders and 45 minuters before I learned if my food contained, the for me, poisones parsley, and even then the answer was hard to make use of (the chef says it is not parsley in it but it still can be little pieces in it(?)). However the wine was good, the sun shining and the little snackplate healty and fresh. All and all: at least pay it a visit for interior. read more

Super friendly and accommodating staff and a great location. The food I've had is awesome - both kinds of satay, the frites, and especially the potatoes with shallots -- def order those on the side, they're salty, flavory goodness. Klosterbrot sounds nice but it's kind of boring and plain. Otherwise, everything is pretty good and I've always had excellent service. read more
