Decided to give Goldie's Express a go. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich combo. I guess they must have thought I said pulled pork platter as when I got to the window it was a couple of dollars more than I was expecting but I wasn't in the mood to ask them to correct it and figured I could always get a drink at the hotel. Once I got to my room at the hotel and opened my bag of food up, I had two containers of House BBQ sauce, two containers of Sweet Baby Rays a nice sized serving of slaw and some great looking onion rings. As for the meat there was a big pile of pulled pork, a really generous portion, the only issue was it was drowned in sauce! Lots and lots of sauce. Meat that has been well smoked and prepared properly doesn't need drowning in sauce. The sauce should be served on the side.

The store, bathroom and restaurant were clean and inviting. The service was fast and caring, and the food was marginal at best. We ordered a chicken friend steak with french fries and fried okra, and the meatloaf with Mac n'cheese and mashed potatoes. We also ordered an Arnold Palmer and a Strawberry Margarita. The mac cheese and the okra were eatible. The meatloaf smelled bad, most of the French fries were raw, the mashed potatoes had crusty gravy and the fried steak was half the portion. The worst of it all was the Strawberry Margarita, which I took 2 sips of and told the waitress it was horrible. It looked like 4 ounces of radioactive red syrupee liquid with a taste of artificial red 40 and a hint of licor. The waitress took the drink with her and a few minutes later came back and said that her manager said that "it had to remain in the bill", no reason was given and no offer to "make it better" either. We ate what was eatible and left half of the food on our plates, paid $39.00 and left. With the management the rating will remain at 2 stars or go down to 1.

I am 100% convinced that the woman at the front did not want us at the restaurant. I'll just say that I'm a little on the "dark side" & my wife is from "further south". I don't know if she was an employee or the owner, because she didn't utter a word to us when we walked in. We were the only customers in the restaurant at the time. She was wearing an apron so I assume she was the chef. From the time my wife and I walked in, she glanced up, saw us, then did not make eye contact again. She didn't greet us or acknowledge our existence for a few minutes. We travel heavily throughout East Tennessee, Southern Kentucky, and Southwest Virginia for workk. This type of behavior is almost NEVER experienced by us when we frequent local businesses and restaurants. It must be something different out here in Mississippi... Didn't even matter that we were both wearing our Veterans hats, which we usually do when traveling through "certain areas" of the country. I can only imagine how she would have reacted if we had worn the hats of our home countries of Haiti & Colombia! Anyway, the young man that did service us was very polite and helpful. The brisket was exceptionally delicious, and the chicken was perfectly cooked. The potato salad and the mac & cheese were a little under seasoned. We had to add some salt and pepper to make it better. The young man informed us that this was the first day that they were offering blackberry and blueberry topped parfaits. We also ordered one of those. It tasted delicious! My wife was very happy with it, and she is not a fan of sweets at all. All in all, it was a good meal that would have been great had there been a little more hospitality. This was our first time, so there may be some things that I missed. Maybe this is one of those Seinfeld "soup not-see" places. No chit chat. Just take your food and go. We will most likely order again on our way back, but I think I'll have to make a new DoorDash account so that my food doesn't get tampered with. I mean, that brisket was ON POINT! . Beautiful home--Ugly service…read more We were so excited to stay in this historic home, based on past reviews and even added a second night to our original reservation. We checked in after dark and I wasn't given directions to our Galleries room which was in the third story of another building around the corner from the main house. Thankfully, I had seen the layout online before we arrived and we eventually found our room. Macy texted soon after, asking if we found our room and apologized for the "stray dogs in our parking lot".There were three large dogs and one stayed close by, barking as we were unloading and for quite a while afterward. We travel with two small dogs and it didn't feel safe for them or us. I called the City of Vicksburg and they stated that the Corner's owner, Macy, had told them not to pick up the stray dogs when animal control had been called out in the past. She was given a solution that would have helped keep guests comfortable and chose not to proceed. We slept in our clothes because the bed was not clean. There were also dead bugs on the floor, and the rugs had not been vacuumed. Macy asked for pictures to show her housekeeper and apologized for the "ladybugs" (cockroaches). There was a coffeemaker provided--about 2 feet from the toilet. The jetted tub was older and based on the general uncleanliness of the room, we could not bring ourselves to use it. There was no shower. Due to these experiences, we chose to leave the B & B early the next morning and not stay the second night as planned. I texted Macy so she wouldn't have to provide breakfast. The town of Vicksburg was delightful and we enjoyed breakfast and coffee from Bohemia Cafe and Bakery, walked throughout downtown, viewed the Riverfront murals, shopped at a great indoor flea market, and visited the National Military Park. We had some wonderful BBQ from Big Bees and eventually resumed our leisurely journey. Upon arriving home, we found Macy had emailed us a voucher for a free night's stay at their property. Although I appreciate the gesture and admission of fault, we do not plan to stay there again and this is of no use to us. My husband called this week to discuss and Joe (the other owner) answered. Joe swore at my husband, and said we left early because "we just had somewhere to be" and that we should call our credit card company. Wow. The grounds are gorgeous. We believe the home has been well preserved and the river view from our balcony took us back in time. The neighborhood is sketchy. We are leaving this review to inform travelers such as ourselves: who simply wish for good service, clean rooms and hosts who take ownership of any misses. This visit was a miss.
