Our daughter talks happily about her teachers daily, and loves to tell us about new games she and her friends have come up with. Lana liked it so much she still introduces herself as a "dolphin"! that was her class. The school is big, well equipped inside and outdoors, full of extra curriculum classes (you pay extra about $35-$45 per month) and overall the atmosphere is buzzing with a positive energy. Lana had young teachers. All very knowledgeable and great with kids. One downside they changed 3 times while she was there. You get reports every day. You can see the kids art creations posted on the walls next to each class. The school has lots of events and field trips (one every other week). One big plus for me was the fact the school cooks fresh, quality and nutritious food every day. They will accommodate health special needs. There was great deal of involvement from parents who are expected and highly encouraged to participate. We were meeting at least once a month (great chance to get out too and make new connections) to discuss activities for kids and ways to help the teachers. About tuition payments: The school is relatively expensive for South Carolina, close to $900 a month for 4-6 years old, but is well worth it. DI is one of the few NAEYC accredited schools in the state. The tuition needs to be paid 2 weeks in advance every other week. When you enroll you're also asked to pay for the last 2 weeks of the calendar year (i.e. you pay this year for June 2009) Bottom line Daniel Island Academy is an excellent pre-shool choice.

When we toured, it was immediately clear how much the children loved the staff. Seeing how comfortable and happy they were spoke volumes about the attention, dedication, and care they receive. That's something you can't capture in a brochure, and it made a real impression on us. We love their emphasis on learning through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences. From creative arts and music to outdoor play and early literacy, their approach keeps children active and engaged while helping them build confidence, independence, and the skills they'll need for school. They seem to understand that preparing children for the next stage shouldn't mean rushing them through this one. Balancing meaningful learning with creativity and the freedom to simply be kids is no small task, but they seem to have found that balance. Isabel, the director, has been exceptionally kind, responsive, and understanding. She has shown genuine consideration for our family's needs and followed through on her commitments with honesty and care. We've felt supported rather than pressured throughout the process, and that has helped build our trust from the beginning. We were nervous about taking the step of leaving our little man at daycare, but Isabel and her team have made it feel so much less overwhelming. We're grateful to have found such a warm, welcoming place where our son can learn two languages, explore his interests, and be himself.

Constant contact with the school. I receive weekly emails from the director, updating me on lesson plans and any special events (think field trips and fundraisers). The teachers call parents monthly to address any concerns or questions we may have. Each month, photos of my child are uploaded to a private Snapfish account. They're cloth diaper friendly! Your child brings their own lunch each day, or you can opt to order lunch (menus and order forms are available from the school). Right now, my sons options for ordering lunch are Mac and Cheese from McAlisters Deli one on day, or Grilled Chicken from Applebee's on another day. Refrigerators and microwaves are available in the classroom, so my son generally takes leftovers for lunch. Also, the school is completely nut free! Okay...but what about academics?? Each week has a theme. Let's take the week they learned about dental health as an example. It included making tooth artwork, reading books about teeth, a visit from a dentist and learning the Spanish word for teeth (diente). In the short time my son has been in attendance, he's made so much progress. Their program truly is Kindergarten Prep. I can't wait until my younger son begins school here in the fall.

It has been such a FANTASTIC experience. The director knew every kid by name. The teachers were superb and absolute saints! They taught her so much this past year. My kid never wanted to miss school, not even for fun stuff. She knows her alphabet, numbers, some blends, colors, shapes, how to behave in a structured environment, and more. I felt she was safe and very well cared for. Absolute five stars and will recommend to anyone else who lives in the area.
