Please understand I am passionate about the learning process and I respect the teaching field. Trust me when I say do your research and ask other parents/students who don't attend church and/or work there how far behind in technology most of the teachers are and how the school don;t have the staff or administration to hold the teachers accountable to following a structured teaching guide that good for the student that does not plan to go onto Bod Jones Christina college. BEWARE of Mr. Rysta he is a awful non-caring teacher. This is the prime example of a teacher who has tenure in the school and doesn't care what is best for the student but what is more convenient for him. Is totally opposed to communicating with parents who want to be involved and asks for conferences to discuss any concerns that may highlight what he is lacking. This school totally changed my childs personality. The kid who always happy and smiling was often sad and felt like he was being ignored by some of his teachers. He would express they would ignore him trying to raise his hand and get help for classwork. When I asked him what was the problem he would say too many students in one class. I was told there would be smaller classes so that was a lie that was told to make us feel comfortable. There is only one set of teachers for each grade and that teacher will teach more than one class so of course they would be exhausted and ignoring students. I just want to avoid any parent from thinking they found a great school that will be a great educational institution for their child to understand this school is not what they sell you and I be the reviews are from church members. I have spoken to others who felt the same way but instead of taking time to write about it in the comment section they just talk about it and leave it at that. I on the other feel that it is my duty to let other's know really what is happening once you commit and start paying the tuition. Lana liked it so much she still introduces herself as a "dolphin"! that was her class. The school is big, well equipped inside and outdoors, full of extra curriculum classes (you pay extra about $35-$45 per month) and overall the atmosphere is buzzing with a positive energy. Lana had young teachers. All very knowledgeable and great with kids. One downside they changed 3 times while she was there. You get reports every day. You can see the kids art creations posted on the walls next to each class. The school has lots of events and field trips (one every other week). One big plus for me was the fact the school cooks fresh, quality and nutritious food every day. They will accommodate health special needs. There was great deal of involvement from parents who are expected and highly encouraged to participate. We were meeting at least once a month (great chance to get out too and make new connections) to discuss activities for kids and ways to help the teachers. About tuition payments: The school is relatively expensive for South Carolina, close to $900 a month for 4-6 years old, but is well worth it. DI is one of the few NAEYC accredited schools in the state. The tuition needs to be paid 2 weeks in advance every other week. When you enroll you're also asked to pay for the last 2 weeks of the calendar year (i.e. you pay this year for June 2009) Bottom line Daniel Island Academy is an excellent pre-shool choice.

If I could give Carolina Speech and Language (CSAL) a 5+ rating, I would. My child has been…read morereceiving speech therapy with CSAL for 5 years. He has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and ADHD. He has had difficulty with aggression and being in control. Some of the areas my child worked on were understanding nonverbal cues, understanding idioms, using emotion words, changing his behavior based on someone else's emotional reactions, using appropriate facial expressions, and modifying his language based on facial expressions of others. These are all complex issues and take time. CSAL did not give up on my child. They also worked with him on food therapy. This strengthened his jaw/face muscles and helped his enunciation. The food therapy also helped with his aversion to textures, which is common in children with ASD. He went from being an extremely picky eater to someone who eats almost anything I put in front of him. CSAL will work hard to match my child with the best therapist. If he is not working well with someone they will switch him to another. He has also benefitted from groups to practice conversations with kids his own age. CSAL thinks out of the box. Now that my child is older, we have practiced making 911 emergency calls using an old non-operating cellphone. We practice from scripts with different scenarios of emergency situations. I followed that up with an actual tour of the local emergency center in Dorchester County. Another out-of-the-box task was for my child giving me step-by-step directions on how to do his household chore. This caused him to slow down his thought process and make sure he covered each step before moving forward. I highly recommend CSAL to any family with children of any age.

I went up to the desk to inform AMY (receptionist) that I will reschedule because sally(owner) hasn't came out to get my granddaughter Xomara. I was told by AMY that SALLY(owner) must forgot she had the 11:00 appointment with Xomara. AMY also stated that she forgot we were sitting in the lobby and still waiting for SALLY (owner). At that point it was completely UNACCEPTABLE on SALLY (owner) part and AMY. I signed my granddaughter in at 10:43, so why wouldn't AMY inform SALLY that her 11:00 appointment was there . I was NOT given an apology for that incident in any form nor SALLY and AMY owning up to ACCOUNTABILITY for that incident in. I didn't deserve to be treated nor disrespected in that manner. There is definitely some discrimination concerns there at that business. whether othe African American children or staff attends or work there. ACCOUNTABILITY and RESPECT is the key .
