While on business trip in Monterrey Mexico, enjoyed this local San Pedro favorite for late dinner…read more(9:30pm, but apparently this isn't "late" in Mexico). The cuisine here is more like that found in a high end NYC noveau-Mexican eatery, definitely not everyday fare. We kept our order simple with the braised octopus, beet carpaccio and chiles en nogada (poblano chiles in white sauce with walnuts and pomegranate seeds). The highlight of the evening was the totoaba, one of the most expensive fish in the world and indigenous to Mexico. Wikipedia says, "The dried totoaba swim bladders are so valuable that they are referred to as the "cocaine of the sea", with prices of up to $46,000 per kg on the Chinese black market." Restaurant wasn't full and the regional economy did not feel vibrant. First trip to Mexico since January 2020, glad that quality has survived the pandemic. Looking forward to coming back when conditions normalize.

To start off, the staff provides a complimentary bowl of various chips and tostadas to pair with a refried bean and cheese dip and 3 different salsas (with varying spice levels). If you need suggestions on what to order, I cannot recommend enough the "Double Flour Tortilla Taco with Beef Trampo + Stuffed Taco w/ Spicy Mashed Potatoes." Yes, it's as intense as the name sounds lol! This is literally a taco WITHIN a taco...this concept blew my mind away and every bite is filled with a flavor explosion. We initially only ordered one to share but had to order a second one because that's how delicious it truly was haha! If you like bone barrow, you have to also try their "Smoked Bone Marrow w/ Peanuts and Chile de Arbol." The dish comes with 4 pieces of bone marrow along with 4 corn tortillas, and the staff will help scoop the bone marrow into the tortillas on your behalf. There's even enough bone marrow butter left that you can add to some of your other dishes. On a final and random note, their bathrooms even offer mouthwash, which was such a pleasant (and needed) surprise after consuming all that food haha. I was today year's old when this establishment became one of my top Mexican restaurants EVER. Trust me, your taste buds will NOT be disappointed and you'll walk out of here with a new level of expectation for fine Mexican dining! :)

The costilla taco! Everything is Yummy!! Warms the soul! Had lunch here again. Was let down by the soup. Looks like they've changed the recipe/flavors. This time it was bland & oversalted. Tasted more like a vegetable broth with barely any mutton/sheep flavor. & had rice & chickpeas in it, that took away from the flavor even more. A really pity! The previous version was flavoursome & rich. The ribs were oversalted too. Management, please take note!

Never have I tasted such layers and complexities of flavors in food before. I was in heaven! They had plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. ¡Muchisimas gracias! I had the Veggie Equite Tacos and the Cauliflower Steak. Both were amazing. They had these wonderful sauces that teased out even more flavor - in freaking cauliflower! My husband had the Spicy Fish Tostada and was similarly drooling and in awe of the tastes. We did not play the part of a sophisticated American couple in Monterrey because we were just so overwhelmed by how delicious everything was. We also got a Beet Pistachio Salad that was only -sigh- good. It really could have used some queso fresco but maybe they were trying to keep it vegan. All round, 5 stars for excellent service and super delicious food. I'm going to have to look for better food back home in Dallas!
