She asked pertinent questions to understand my needs and concerns. I've had several appointments so far and never feel rushed. She is very patient and easy to talk to. Dr Hermes is also very prompt with calling with lab results to explain the findings. The office is fully digital- I can view my records at any time, make appointments and send messages. The atmosphere in the office is calm and relaxed; there is no practice of overbooking here and you're not stuck in the waiting room even though you showed up at the scheduled time.

No tests run, didn't listen to most of what I said. A month later I returned because the headaches hadn't gone away. She didn't even examine me and gave me another migraine medicine. Last week I went to another doctor. She ordered a cat scan first thing. Turns out that I have a severe sinus infection... never mind that this was one of the things I suggested to Dr. Kissinger on my original visit, which she promptly dismissed. Gee, I wonder if it was as severe THREE months ago when Dr. Kissinger should have caught it to begin with!? If you want a quality, thorough doctor, try Dr. Anne Suh (also reviewed on yelp). She's at a different practice in the loop and is VERY thorough and willing to listen and get to the bottom of the problem.

The office is located off of St. Clair in the Northwestern Memorial building (and there is validated parking available); the office is very cute, clean, and modern, and I waited less than 10 minutes after my scheduled time (which is pretty much unheard of; the receptionist also apologized which I thought was ridiculous!). I filled out basic medical history and such on their patient portal beforehand, which I thought was quite convenient and makes things more efficient. I was really excited with all the raving reviews on not only on Yelp, but on other health websites that rated Dr. O'Mara. When the doc walked in, she was extremely nice, very knowledgeable, straightforward, a great listener, gentle, professional, and very informative. She listened to all of my health issues as well as my thoughts and opinions, and basically gave me a plan of action. She took her time with me, asking questions, and the whole time, I was not felt rushed! The best thing is that she was very genuine and I was extremely comfortable, being a new patient with all these high expectations! There is a lab on-site, and the phlebotomist, Lauren P., was so sweet and kind, and drawing blood was not at all uncomfortable (considering I have a very low threshold of pain and am such a pansy!). Dr. O'Mara and everyone on staff seems to be extremely detail-oriented and organized (which I absolutely love). The high ratings on the doc do not do her justice - she really is AWESOME. Dr. O'Mara's office is a clean, modern one-physician practice. She exhibits all of the professionalism and knowledge I have come to expect and appreciate from Northwestern practitioners and affiliates. I was randomly assigned to her through Northwestern's physician referral practice after I suffered a serious medical event and I was shocked by how great my experiences with her have been. My initial consultation was in her office, where she interviewed me about all of my health concerns, family history, and really took the time to get to know both me as a person and my health issues. Despite a relatively complicated health history, Dr. O'Mara has gone above and beyond. She takes the time to research issues about my medicine and listens to my questions, no matter how silly they may seem to me, in a non judgmental environment. She has followed up on problems or before procedures through phone calls about things I, at times, hadn't even thought about. She is always eager to explain these things to me. She truly cares about her patient's well being and happiness -- even following up on what I thought about places she had sent me for a referral. In short, I have never received this level of care with any doctor before. Her assistant, Angie, is also very nice and helpful. To top it off, it's extremely easy to make appointments here, and Dr. O'Mara keeps an electronic portal where you can ask her questions, view your test results quickly, and access other features from your visits. The office is in an older building and is located on the second floor. The ladies at check-in were nice and helpful - I got there around 15 minutes early to fill out my paperwork. Not even 5 minutes later they called me back to a room. The nurse came promptly to do the standard checks - weight, height, etcetera. She was very personable and I enjoyed our conversation. Once she left the doctor came a few minutes later. We realized that I needed a tetanus shot in addition to the physical and I opted just to do it that day. Even the lady doing my shot was quick - it happened in under 10 minutes. I was so surprised - talk about the fastest doctors appointment ever! They also helped me sign up for MyChart so I could see my results from my biometric screening digitally. No complaints from my visit here! I'm glad that finding a new physician that I like was so easy :)

She gave me a Pap smear while I was having my period, which I knew would skew my results. At the time, I questioned her, she told me my fears were unfounded & not to worry. It was perfectly fine to do a Pap smear while I was having my period period. She then called me saying that based on my Pap smear results, I needed a uterus biopsy. I went to my OB/GYN, who told me she never should have done a Pap smear while I was having my period. Thousand of dollars later after a very painful biopsy of my uterus, I found out that I was fine and it was all unnecessary because of the Pap smear during my period. I went back to Dr Wallner and told her what my OB/GYN said & the results of my uterus biopsy, and she bristled and was very irritated. She does not like to be questioned. I also went in for a physical and didn't even undress. It was a 10 minute procedure and she was very cold and short with me. I did not feel like it was thorough physical compared to others I have had previously,. No breast exam, etc. She also referred me to a terrible cardiologist, who would not listen to me. I ended up going to the ER on my own against her advice and found out I my fears were founded after an angiogram showed I had heart disease.

Someone once told me your primary care doctor should be like your healthcare quarterback, managing all your concerns and sending you out for referrals as necessary. Dr. Ballintine does just that, with quick and easy referrals to Northwestern when needed and most things managed in-house. She's helped me with everything from migraines and anxiety to infections and annual physicals. Working in healthcare myself, I know I'm a bit of a doctor snob. But Dr. Ballintine exceeds my expectations for what primary care should look like. She's thorough (but not overly so), personable, and remembers each of my healthcare issues (likely thanks to great documentation -- also a plus).
