This is such a great venue. It seats fewer people than say the Landmark but the seats are more comfortable. We saw Joe Turner's Come and Gone which was very well presented. The story line was easy to follow and the actors were spectacular. Parking is available off street or across the street at the Phoebe's lot for a fee. There is a concession stand and bar inside that offers candy, snacks, coffee, and alcoholic drinks (even a special creation for whatever play is showing). There are also memberships offered if you think you'll go to multiple shows. A great experience! I hope to return soon! read more

Had my first visit to Syracuse Stage last night to see the Jason Alexander directed Last Five Years! This review is for the venue/theatre itself and not the show. As a regular theatre-goer here in Rochester, I was SUPER excited to finally check out Syracuse Stage. They do co-productions with our LORT theatre Geva, and I have heard great things. The venue itself is classy, well maintained, with reasonable prices on everything from snacks to wine to tickets. Every staff member I interacted with was SO friendly. Special shoutout to the AMAZING box office staff! I had a conflict come up for my original show date and they exchanged me into a new date - no questions asked. At many theatre's, you have to pay an exchange fee or exchanges are only allowed for subscribers. That kind of accommodation will keep me coming back the next time they are doing a can't miss show (helllllo Amadeus next season!) Thank you to them for being so helpful and easy to work with! Even though the show I saw was not my cup of tea, I look forward to coming back and deeply appreciate them bringing high level talent to the upstate/central NY area. We are SO lucky to have a rich theatre scene, and Syracuse Stage is worth the special trip up from Rochester if there's something you're keen on seeing! read more

I've been a season pass holder for most of the past decade, so I've seen my fair share of productions at Syracuse Stage. The first thing to note, is that there literally isn't bad seat in the entire house. Sit where you will and you'll catch everything going on up on stage and often in the aisles too. As a season pass holder I can easily switch my seats to another performance if a scheduling conflict comes up unexpectedly. I also receive 2 passes to share with friends, which is a great way to share the experience with others. The quality of the shows selected each season is also simply amazing. There are always a couple of traditional favorites, and something new to broaden your horizons. I've never been disappointed by any show I've attended. In fact, I have had to leave early a couple of times after just being overwhelmed by the subject matter that sometimes hits a little too close to home. Before the show starts and during intermission there is a full bar available. They even take orders for intermission and will have everything ready at a designated table when the performance breaks. If you don't quite finish you can get a lid for your drink and bring it into the performance with you too. Lastly, the Stage does an incredible amount of community engagement. There are educational programs for local schools, a partnership with SU Drama, and sensory-friendly performances so that it's easy to bring a loved one with special needs. Syracuse Stage is an absolute asset to the community and provides an outstanding value to those who attend performances there. read more

I went here for the Syracuse Drag Battle and it was fantastic! The people are the theater were super friendly. The show was great! There were tables setup in the bar area with little bowls of snacks. The drinks were actually affordable and not over inflated. I LOVE the concept of giving people cups with tops (less mess obviously) but also a great souvenir you can take with you after the show. During intermission there was a buffet line of food, the food was great! I am only giving 4 instead of 5 stars because the food although great, wasn't very organized. The line was insane. I would suggest moving the buffet table out a little further and allowing two lines on either side of the table to speed it up a little and make it less chaotic, but other than that, it's a night I won't forget and I look forward to going back for my next show. This place is like Syracuse itself, old and worn out. Bathrooms have 2 stalls with long line-ups all the time during intermissions. And seriously, a discount if you are under the age of 40? Why do they do that? So if you are 40-65 you get screwed with a lot higher price--what morons. The seats are comfy but this theater really needs a makeover. If Syracuse had any smarts, they would tear it down and build a new facility. Don't even get me started on the Radio Shack speakers they have nailed to the front of the stage. And, why is all the casting here full of actors that can't act (or sing)? The female stage manager and band leader also seems weird--very odd bunch. Stay away. And if you want to spare yourself from listening to actors and so-called performers speaking so highly of themselves with their loud detailed dreams of Broadway and London I suggest you stay away from Phoebes Restaurant across the street. They really ain't all that, not even close. read more

Worth Buying A Series of Tickets I have lived in Syracuse for 3 years now. I have seen several well done productions including "Reds" and the August Williams play to mention a couple. The theater is old and in need of renovation. Some of the acting and staging are first rate however. Seeing performances here adds some cultural comfort for this NYC girl who is not disappointed and sometimes delighted. read more
