It's one thing to enjoy the wine, but exceptional service is what turns somewhere you enjoyed into somewhere you actually want to return to. Another thing worth knowing: Matthews also offers offsite events and tastings, which is such a great option if you want to bring the experience to a private event rather than hosting everything onsite. There were a few little things about the overall experience that probably would have landed Matthews at a 4/5 for me, but the hospitality completely won me over. It never did, and I truly believe being isolated back there is what set the tone for the lackluster service that followed. Our first server came to introduce herself, and then minutes later, a younger woman came out to announce she was our "real" server. The whole interaction left us feeling profiled for our age, which was frustrating. We are frequent wine tasters and members of multiple wine clubs. We were not the inexperienced guests we were apparently assumed to be. The flight format was not to my preference either. All wines were brought out at once, and our server gave only surface-level explanations of the first three before saying she would return for the last two. Because we were tucked away in the back, she had no way of gauging when we finished, and by the time she came back, we were already ready to leave without ever receiving the last two explanations. The wine itself was not good to me. We ended up dumping most of it. At $60, this was a complete waste, and we will not be returning. I wanted so badly to love this place, and I genuinely wish the experience had been different.

So much so that we purchased a bottle for another day. **2023 Sangiovese Rose: sweet with tinge of citrus; don't like rose but really liked it!! **2022 Viognier: tart with strong apple taste; the tart was a bit strong for me but typically I like Viognier **2020 Aviator: tastes of cherry and chocolate; medium dry- I don't love dry wines so it wasn't my favorite **2020 Reserve Merlot: intense aroma with bold flavor of cherry and blackberry and chocolate and smokiness- and a tinge of dryness and some acidity going down; this one was ok just wish for less dryness ** 2020 Reserve Syrah: deep aroma of bold fruits like cherry plum hints of tobacco and dark chocolate; fruity taste with a delayed acidity with just a touch of dryness; my favorite of the three reds

The tasting room is a decent size. Not large but there is both outside and inside seating. There is a couch/chair area at the front by the counter and then multiple times by the windows. The staff is friendly and knowledgable and the wine selection has options. The time we came they were out of food but you can go right next door to order food and they will bring it to you! Such a nice option so you are not drinking on an empty stomach. Plus who doesn't love to much while drinking a flight of wine.

We did a white and red tasting and had the charcuterie board and truffle fries. It is a gorgeous setting which was even more perfect with the changing leaves.
