A somewhat urban grocer for the thrifty & modest shoppers in the Pontiac area. This place caters to…read morea majority of African Americans, Hispanics, and working class Whites in the area. This means you can find tons of Mexican imported foods, unique & exotic meats, and tons of specials on grocery needs. My Mom occasionally makes the 20-minute trip from Sterling Heights to here to get specials such as a 10 lb. bag of chicken legs & thighs for $3.90! That's 39 cents/lb for a 10 lb bag of fresh/raw chicken pieces. Think of how cheap you can make 2 family dinners when the meat is that cheap. There are tons of other specials and whatnot, but all in an urban, supermercado sort of a style. Adventurous shoppers may find a few bizarre foods (e.g. chicken feet, pig head, pig feet, beef tripe, etc.) and imported goodies (mostly from Mexico) that are not regularly seen here. A lot of the items are brands we're familiar with, but in the packaging, sizes, and flavors they sell in Mexico. Though it's in Pontiac, it's in a safe area just a stones throw from Oakland Univ. and The Palace of Auburn Hills. Great Lakes Crossing is a short drive from here too. This place is easily accessed via I-75, M-59, Telegraph, and Woodward. Given the clientele and location where this market serves, don't expect to find tons of whole foods, organic, and premium grade items that you would at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. This place is on the other end of the spectrum, with Kroger's being the median. You can bring your Food Stamps or cash payroll checks here, too. Don't know how many Yelpers would be using those services though.

It was a good super market . Definitely try it ! The fruit and hot food were really good.read more

This place is stacked! After grabbing tacos and avoiding the cost of overpriced beverages I figured…read moreI would just hop in to walmart or meijer to get some drinks for the kiddies but instead I saw this place and thought to check it out. Grab some jarritos or a giant fizzy drink bottle and just share it with the gremlins. Okay so the parking lot is terribly organized so be careful because while I was there two cars driving like morning bats were making me paranoid. So don't step in here for bread and come out to a nice big dent in your car. Park with some good space around you atleast thats my strategy. -1 for that. Okay so like I said this place is stacked with items. Lots of drinks, meat, everything basically in this somewhat big somewhat small market. I can see how it looks a little sketch but the other reviewer is really being biased. It's not so bad. The prices are alright it isn't competitive maybe because they just dont care and the business isn't obsolete it's somewhat going and they're alright with that. I grabbed some arizona sweet teas, some modelo beers, some bread buns which was like 4 for $5 which is a deal! Their lights are dim but nevertheless it is an operational grocery store/market. Carnival Market nearby definitely beats this but I see this place deserving more stars. You can definitely drop in and grab something you need and get out.

On more than one occasion, an employee was openly hostile toward me for no clear reason. During my most recent visit, the situation escalated into a shouting match after I repeatedly asked her to leave me alone. She continued provoking the situation instead of de-escalating it, and at one point was filming me while arguing. I felt intimidated and just wanted to finish my business and leave. What was especially concerning was that management was present and witnessed the situation but did not properly intervene or resolve it. Seeing this handled so casually made me feel that customer safety and professionalism are not taken seriously. Because of this experience, I will not be returning. I hope the owners or management address how conflicts with customers are handled so that other people do not have a similar experience.

As an adventurous eater, I wondered if there were any Latin American food stores besides Mexican…read morewhich I still love. I found out from a young Puerto Rican man at my bowling league that Saginaw street has it. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. This place not only carries Mexican and Puerto Rican groceries, but also foods from Central and South America. I bought a package of frozen pupusas which are a delicacy in El Salvador and my mom bought some real Colombian coffee. They have a variety of different Latin American foods although I was disappointed that there wasn't a bakery. However I must say this. DO NOT let the neighborhood deter you. It is quite awesome and the people who work there are Colombian and very nice too. If you're ever in the area, give this place a try. You'll be amazed.

So when I found this spot I couldn't have driven here any faster! I walked in and immediately starting putting my 2 nephews and daughter to work each holding a basket! I found yuca, empanada shells, chocolate corté, pilloncillo, sofrito, morcilla, calderos, campolor, tocino, and chiles! You name it, I found it and bought it! I was beyond happy to drop serious coin at this mom and pop place! What I didn't like or expect was to get home and see that I had EXPIRED sofrito and when I went to cut my tocino and use it, the smell was freezer burned! Let me tell you on a day like Noche Buena when in my family we celebrate and do our big holiday meal you pull out the sofrito and tocino to make arroz con gandules and you see and smell it's not good to use, doesn't make for a good start! So, although they had many many products from my mother land I can't say I'm running back here. The store is small enough to keep an eye on expired stuff! Rotate! Fortunately I had bacon at home and although it didn't have tocino I managed without it. I was also able to find papel para pasteles and the string! So they got an extra star for that and calderos! If you visit check for expiration dates AND ask when the last time they stocked their freezer items! I wish them much success though because these kinda stores are my jam!
