Dr. Amiry was very pleasant and professional. I basically just came in to renew prescriptions I'd been given by my other dermatologist in Connecticut before moving here. No issues with the appointment or my interactions with him. The reception area is very spa-like, which was calming, but they ruined it a bit by having a TV advertising all the services they provide... laser stuff, botox, whatever else. This always annoys me. Many people who come to a dermatologist are there because they're suffering from some type of issue that may actually be pretty emotionally distressing. I've had breakdowns in dermatologists' office in the past - skin diseases are scary, and they suck. I don't feel like this is the right environment to be playing ads in people's faces and trying to sell them things. Also had an issue where the nurses never sent my prescriptions to my pharmacy. I had to call back after my appointment two times to follow up before the prescriptions actually reached CVS. Not sure what happened there, but that was irritating. I was referred to Dr. Amiry from my primary care physician. Even though this is billed as a dermatologist's office, it's really a medical spa. I was evaluated by a nurse, aesthetician, and then Dr. Amiry, where they discussed which products I NEEDED to buy FROM HIM in order to clear up my skin. Of course, I could just go with prescription Retin-A, but according to them, it wouldn't work as well without all their products. They strong-armed me into buying over $100 of cleansers, sunscreen, and cream from the line he sells in the office (La Roche Posay) and repeatedly said, "Oh, this stuff is so inexpensive! You should have heard what he really wanted you to buy! It's such a bargain!" They also recommended that I get some laser peels (at the tune of $450 a pop, at least 5-6 sessions) and microdermabrasion, to "really make the products work." I left feeling disgusted with myself that I feel for their hard sales ploys. And the end of the story? The only thing that has seemed to work is the Retin A. The rest of the stuff has been used, but it's not any better than clearsil. So I'm out over $100 and will never go visit those shysters again. I find this to be highly unethical. read more

I went to see this Doctor at Reston Dermatology center awhile ago because I had an irritation on my face, the stuff were very professional but, this Doctor was terrible; he only looked at me and said "there is no cure for what you have, try this creme and let's hope it works" and left me with the nurse, Mischelle (way more helpful thab the doctor himself) such a lack of professionalism and interest. Office location: Awesome! In Reston Town Center's hospital. There is valet sometimes but there is no convenient covered parking garage, on a daily basis there is a large crowded private parking lot. Because this is in a hospital be prepared for institutional hallways, sick people in the elevators with you, etc. Not the prettiest! Ambiance: I know this is a doctor. But I'm all about ambiance of my dermatologist, dentist, physician, etc. As soon as you open the door (first doctor's office on your right after the glass walkway) you're immediately aware you're in a different space. Comfy chairs, dim lights, painted walls, TV, complimentary cookies and beverages. This doctor did a great job at setting expectations. Staff: The women that work the front desk and as the nurses have been great so far! While one particular woman behind the desk is a little louder with your personal information as you check out than I'd like, she was not enough to deter me from returning. Everyone greeted me with a smile as I was walked back to my room for a consultation! FYI You can hear the women discussing patients (professionally relaying info to the doc, for example) outside the closed consultation doors! I know they can't change the construction of the building but I do wish I didn't hear some other patients details. I wondered if they could hear me speak?? Wait time: I found Dr. Amiry through ZocDoc, an app like Yelp for the medical community. I filled out a lot of information before I showed up with ZocDoc and luckily they did not ask me to refill any paperwork. Just 1 or 2 pages. I was taken back 5 minutes after I arrived. Dr. Amiry: Bed side manner is the best! I met with him to discuss skin issues (duh) he listened intently, asked meaningful questions and made me feel very comfortable. I was prescribed 3 different medications. The best part about the experience with Dr. Amiry was his patience when I returned a week later bc I felt unsatisfied. My second visit I came much more prepared and said I wanted to attempt a holistic approach Vs topical treatments. He was so onboard! I was given a list of vitamins and probiotics to take daily. I was recommend several books and nutritionists. I was really excited to be taken seriously, and given genuine time from the Doctor despite my reluctance to jump straight to traditional prescription medications for treating any issues. Dermasweep: As someone who gets a facial on a monthly basis I was excited to try something different. A quick search on Instagram of a "Dermasweep" hashtag will reveal what this process promises to deliver. I have gone to Andrea to get Dermasweep done and it's very relaxing. They take you to a separate waiting room for cosmetic procedures. This waiting room is smaller and filled with samples of a few products! Andrea's room is large and dark. It was just like going to a spa, except I didn't have a locker room to change into a plush robe. Andrea is professional and informative. Policies: I did purchase two products from the office that I ultimately did not like. They made my face way too dry, and in hindsight were probably too strong for what I needed. This doctor's office accepts returns but will only offer a credit to use there in the future. You can use the credit on any product or service! I wanted a skin cancer screening, so I used ZocDoc to schedule an appointment with Dr. Amiry. I chose him because he was one of the only dermatologists in my area that had an appointment convenient for me. As some other reviews suggested, this practice seems much more into skin care procedures than skin cancer screenings. I was dissatisfied with Dr. Amiry. He made a less than professional remark about skin cancer that I found to be extremely rude and insulting. Anyhow, the only reason I'm giving him two stars is that he seemed to look somewhat carefully at my skin for the check-up. However, his assistant wrote down Dr. Amiry's details/description of my skin but I wasn't given a copy of this information. Seems kinda pointless to me. Also, I was led to believe that he accepted my insurance, only to be billed later on stating that the practice is out of network. I won't be back. read more

I went to my appointment for a skin cancer screening and a few other concerns. My skin cancer screening wasn't as complete as I have had in the past. However, besides that I had no complaints at all. The medical assistant that took me back to my room was very helpful when I explained the reasons why i was there. I like the fact you get a free cookie to go bag and coffee and water. Which I must add that the coffee was extremely delicious and it was after 3pm when I had some! Also a tip, they offer specials on their cosmetic procedures. I love the staff here and was pleasantly surprised and so very pleased with how caring, approachable and pleasant they are and continue to be. Dr. Amiry is the best. I first went to him when I was 30 years old for lips. I loved his work then and as I wanted to start with botox, his technique was the best. I tried a few other places, but I decided to drop the rest and only go to him because my face looks amazing after I see him and the botox seems to last longer than with other places. About 6 month ago I had this really horrible Perioral dermatitis and tried a few different medication and a lot of at home remedies, but nothing worked in fact they made it even worst! A good friend of mine has been a patient of Dr. Amiry's for 10 years and has always had positive experiences and excellent results, so when it came time for me to see a dermatologist for cosmetic reasons I felt assured that I could expect similar results. Appointment setup and paperwork: From the beginning the process went very smoothly. The appointment was easy to set up and the out-patient forms were sent to me immediately by email so that I was able to fill them out in advance. The form questions were thoughtful - some were written to determine if a patient was relying on procedures to completely change their life, which obviously they won't. I found it responsible of Dr. Amiry to consider the mental/emotional impacts a cosmetic procedure could have on someone. Reminders: Several days prior to my appointment, I received both email and text confirmations that also included cancellation policies etc. They really go out of their way to make sure you don't miss your appointment and/or can cancel your appointment in time to avoid any penalties (I think you must cancel within 48 hours). I mean seriously, if this many reminders cannot keep you on track, I don't know what will. Office: The office is located near the Reston Hospital and there was plenty of parking. The office is really nice. I think this is supposed to be more of a medical spa because it sure doesn't look like any of the typical dermatologist offices I have visited in the past. The environment was welcoming and not sterile and it was a pretty large office for a dermatologist. It also smelled really good like vanilla beans. I mentioned to Dr. Amiry how nice his office was but he said "yeah, it's alright". No, it's better than alright. It's pretty posh. They also have some nice Otis Spunkenmeyer cookies to I guess help with your blood sugar if you are nervous (at least that's what my friend told me). Check in: All I had to do was hand in my pre-filled out paper work and my license. That's it! The wait time was almost null. Consultation: Dr. Amiry's assistant Maria is the sweetest person on the planet. I seriously want to adopt her to be my full time soother. She has the nicest bed side manner. She is the one who gathered some information about my concerns (using a computer system btw) and she also took pictures and uploaded them. I have to say I am really impressed with their technology. I work in the IT field so that is partially why I took notice, but also it made me think that if Dr. Amiry is willing to invest in this type of technology, it bodes well that he invests in cosmetic technology. Dr. Amiry gave me a consultation and was very calm and patient. He was not at all condescending (which is a problem I have had with other dermatologists).He is particular about his work though so you will be analyzed to a degree. I told him what my initial budget was and he gave me several priced-out options on paper that were easy to understand. He did not pressure me for additional procedures and allowed his assistant to handle my requests and also prepare for the procedure. I think that's a smart move cause it takes less pressure off of the patient. In the end, they came well under my budget and I was totally comfortable with the arrangement. Procedure: The procedure was relatively painless and I felt informed during the entire process. Even though I was not in pain, Maria was rubbing my leg to comfort me. The soreness came later in the day, as expected. Dr. Amiry does a two week follow up for cosmetic procedures. Check out: Check out was so simple and took two minutes. I am very satisfied and everything went better than expected. It's always nice to find a good doctor who is on time, thorough and non-condescending. That is what I have been missing in other dermatologists (just read my other reviews). Basically I felt cared for as an entire person, which I guess means it's a holistic approach to a non-holistic type practice. I have had two appointments with Dr. Amiry and I empathize with the other reviews listed here that he is not a medical professional but rather a salesperson. I initially had a very positive visit and found his staff - both the genuinely happy receptionist, billing officer and nurses (especially Maria) to be kind and engaging. My read on Dr. Amiry from my first visit was fine - albeit a bit rushed. The second visit (a week later) I had a little more time to assess his qualifications and personality. Medically he appears knowledgeable, however I left the appointment disgusted at how he treated me. First, he seemed defensive when I queried the price of mole removals. Second, it was very clear that he was 'on the clock' during the appointment. If you have multiple questions for Dr. Amiry, then prepare to be: a. rushed b. patronized c. walked out on He even made it a point to say to the nurse, 'Oh, looks like she has TWO questions! Not just ONE!" And before he left the appointment he repeated this insulting narrative, "She's got FOUR questions!" as he headed out the door. Laser hair removal is awesome as they have a machine that blows ice cold air---so much better than another place. IPL treatment went well, subtle but effective treatment--the skin lightening cream is a great adjunct that was recommended by the technician. Botox injections very reasonably priced though ask about specials--he does a good job with them. I have had a laser treatment on a scar that didn't do anything at all. I needed to find a dermatologist in Northern Virginia. Found Dr Amiry in the "top doc" annual review. After going there, I can see why he made the top doc listing. My body has always, always been in A-1 shape most of my life. After hitting the 50's, things started to take a sudden change in my life. When I looked in the mirror after 50-odd years of living, my appearance told a whole different story. It was like a bullet that came out of nowhere. One day I appeared young and the next day I looked like an 80 year old lady. I was frantic. What was I going to do? After all, I found out in my younger years it's not how you appear to others as much as it is how you appear to yourself and when I looked in the mirror, I was miserable! miserable! miserable! I thought my life was over! Until one day I met with one of my doctors and we were discussing my problem and he recommended that I go see Dr. Amiry. So I did and here are the results that I got. First of all, his staff is the best - a selection of a well-rounded group of employees. They are always willing to help and assist you in any way that they can. Colleen gets up before the crack of dawn, so she can be the first in the office to offer each patient some out-of-this-world, kill-for chocolate chip cookies after each office visit. Sometime she saves you a pack, on which she writes your name and that makes you feel very special. Misty is always there to greet you with a big and warm smile that makes the office atmosphere nice and warm. While Colleen at 7:30 AM handles the office all by herself; handling any 911 situation until Dr. Amiry and the rest of his highly trained staff arrive. Dr. Airmy is so gentle with his needle and has a wonderful bedside manner. As he does the treatment, Maria is always there to comfort you. Let me sum it up and tell you what Dr. Amiry and his staff did for me. They made an overall younger-looking woman of me. No more wrinkles or folds on my face. They gave me a new beginning - a new life. Honestly, it's like he took 20 years off my life! I no longer have to lie in my bed depressed because of folds and wrinkles in my face. Extremely rude office and the doctor - my first awful experience with doctors in 30 years. I came in as a new patient (!) waited for my appointment for 1.5 hrs! When I asked when I am going to be seen, I was told that I can find another doctor if I am not happy. When I finally got in, the 'doctor' looked at the problem and found it to be 'too small' for him to deal with it! At the end he took care of the problem, but the quality was so poor that the problem did not go away and gave me issues for another month. If I could give a ZERO I would. Both Dr. Amiry and his staff are very rude and condescending. I had a small rash on my face that showed up when I woke up the morning before and was starting to diminish. I wanted to know what it was since it did not itch or was swollen. Dr. Amiry looked at me and said he didn't know and wanted to do a biopsy. Dr. Amiry said it would leave a scar and that he couldn't help that. I was shocked and said no thanks and walked out. Apparently, I had a reaction while I was in Santa Barbara so I called the office and Dr. Amiry called me back right away. He was very concerned and offered some suggestions to relieve the reaction. Dr. Amiry is awesome. First time I went to this office back in 2007 and kind of had bad experience. They just simply made me buy all kind of chemical peeling products for no reason. Something that does not covered by insurance either. That's when I thought I will never go back again. But then recently I noticed their updated services they are providing which match my criteria. Therefore I decided to go there again. I met with Maria and I must say that she is the GREATEST person you will ever meet. Dr. Amiry really listened to me, helped every way he could to make me understand the problems and the options. Since my issue is still not resolved completely so I will have to keep going there. One thing I don't like about them is their receptions speak loud and discuss health issues loudly. So be careful there. You may have to say, "Lower your voice". I have said that few times before. I have used Dr Amiry's office for several years and after looking at some other dermatologists as well I think his is one of the most organized and effective practices in Reston. The office is easy to get to from the parking lot and the hallways pleasant. I usually sit in the his quite nice and relaxing reception area before appointments and get a little education via their streaming TV on other procedures on offer that i might be interested in. He himself is easy going and an interesting guy and his assistants are extremely efficient which, of course, gives me confidence in them! Should have checked healthgrades.com before going to this doctor. He didn't seem very interested in my issues. Saw him about a skin issue, he didn't ask very many follow up questions about my condition, he seemed distant, cold, and uncaring. When I was undressing to show him my concerned areas there was another person who stayed in the room and I guess it was a nurse, but it felt a bit uncomfortable and he didn't care to ask if I cared if they stayed or not. Worst experience ever, I had an excision done by Dr. Amiry on my lower neck 2 months ago. 2 days after I see this big red patch which seemed to be healing okay, but something weird was the suture used felt like a metal, which was painful. A sore like structure which was bumpy started forming. I had no clue why there was a bump but I assumed the closing of the excision was done that way to heal better? Anyways, I go in to the office after 3 weeks or so, and dr, mentions its a keloid. Any experienced dr, would give heads up to the patient that it may form keloid. Never ever mentioned anything before procedure or after procedure. And this bump will sit on my neck visible all my life, great. Dr. Amiry, did not even apologized for what happened and did not propose any compensation like to re-do the whole procedure so my skin is flattened out. Huge rave for Dr. Amiry's office and team. I have been getting facials and skin care from the aesthetician, Tracy, for about 3 years. When I first met Tracy my skin was under distress - discolartion, lines and general aging concerns. Tracy put me on a wonderful skin care regimen, including RetinA. Along with regular chemical peels and microdermabrasion treatments, my skin looks 100% better. The office does carry skin care products and Tracy is always enthustiastic about sharing info about new state-of-the-art treatments. I had schedule a "skin check" with Dr. Amiry in order for him to check my moles and make sure they were all normal looking. I have always had a lot of moles and routinely get skin checks just to be sure. He spent less that 90 seconds looking over my skin but instead decided to declare that I had "acne" and proceeded to prescribe me 3 products. My skin is not perfect but I do not have "acne." He then told me to come back within a month (presumably to be sold MORE products). I agree with Barbara B.'s review that Dr. Amiry's office is actually a medical spa. I don't recommend anyone going there unless your concerns are purely cosmetic. read more

Extremely sloppy. I went in wanting to get a mole on my chin removed. Without looking at it closely, he recommended a q-switched laser. Initially, he said it would take 3 treatments which in total would cost about $270. I did some research and found that this type of laser is meant for freckle and tattoo removal- rarely do doctors use it for mole removal because it takes care of only the pigment and not the bump. I made another consultation appointment with him and he was very convincing, so I decided to go ahead and schedule the procedure. This time, the receptionist said it would cost around $270 per treatment. But I really wanted the mole gone. When I came in for my treatment, I became really anxious because the mole was on my face and if it went wrong, I would be left with something equally as unattractive or worse. I ended up chickening out at the last second. He was pretty condescending and rude, which honestly is understandable because I did waste his time. The 2 stars are for the aesthetician who was really sweet and understanding about my anxiety and the receptionist who gave me a refund since I paid for half the cost when I made the appointment. The really frustrating part is that I went to another dermatologist a month later who actually looked at it closely and said the mole actually was a small cluster of milia under a tiny freckle! She was able to extract them at a very low cost. Who knows what would have happened if I had gone through with the laser treatment. Couldn 't ask for a better Doctor with a more friendly and caring staff. I went to see them for problems with adult acne. They were on top of things from the beginning and made sure they found me the right medication to clear up my acne. They also always did their best to keep my out of pocket costs down. As my son was entering his teen years and started to develop acne, they were giving me help and advice before he was even a patient! Now they are treating him too and helping to prevent his acne from causing scarring. I highly recommend this practice to anyone who needs a dermatologist for conditions ranging from skin cancer to concerns about wrinkles and aging. I feel like family every time I go there. I was not at all pleased with my experience. I went in for acne/rosacea as well as problems with body pimples and to get an overall skin/mole check. Dr. Amiry took about 60 seconds to do the skin check (I have at least a hundred moles) then pretty much dismissed my body pimples as folliculitis (offering no further information on cause, treatment, prevention, rushing along to diagnose my face issues before I had any chance to get a word in or ask questions). He told me I did not have rosacea (even though my general practitioner had diagnosed me with it). He then suggested I use a peroxide wash and particular lotion (to be purchased through his practice). He also prescribed an RX cream (which turns out is specifically for Rosacea, which he told me I did not have). After leaving the office, I realized they had given me a salicylic acid wash instead of the peroxide. When I went back in they told me they were out of the peroxide, but this was basically the same thing (even though I had communicated that salcylic acid irritates my skin). It gave me a feeling of "we suggest you use whatever we have in stock and can sell you for a profit." I returned the wash, but kept the lotion which they had given me for $26 (normally they sell it for $52, but they were having a 50% off "deal"). Unfortunately I discovered I could have purchased it online for $13 from amazon.com. Dr Amiry spent a total of about 5 minutes for my consultation and it was difficult to get in any questions or concerns (and when I did he was very dismissive) before he rushed out the door without any sort of explanation of the products he wanted me to use. The only thing that came from this visit was finding a decent, highly moisturizing lotion (which I will purchase from amazon in the future.) read more

Dr Amiry only wants your money. If I could give zero stars I would but that's not an option on here. Dr. Amiry made a mistake on my Botox injections and one of my eyelids is dramatically droopier than the other. I came in for a follow up appointment to discuss it and his only solution was to use an eye drop in that eye. I asked for a partial refund (since he did inject Botox on the other side and on the sides of the eyes and it worked fine) but he refused. I articulated that I came to him because he was a professional and trusted him and was requesting a refund for the area in which he messed up. I now have to walk around with one dramatically droopy eyelid (to the point that it's resting on my eyelashes) for the next 3-6 months. I'll be going to Dr. Barry Cohen next time. He may not have the best bedside manner but at least he Dr. Cohen stands behind his work. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Amiry's for 12 years. He has a great bed side manner and I have always been satisfied with the results of any treatment I've received. He usually has more than one suggestion for any of my cosmetic concerns, but he has also performed a couple biopsies and laser treatments for more serious problems. He gives very practical advice. His staff is friendly and efficient. His office is conveniently located in Reston and there is free parking available at his office building. He keeps his patients updated on procedures and products via email if you sign up for his newsletter. His staff does a great job of reminding you about future appointments via email and text - again if you sign up for these notifications. I would highly recommend his practice to anyone needing a dermatologist. read more
