Sydney airport is fairly easy to navigate. If someone is coming with you, they can reserve a parking spot in advance. If they are picking up you up, they can wait in designated areas for you to show up without paying for parking. If you need wheelchair help, someone will meet you with a chair and take you through all the processing. Depending on if you use a lounge or not, they will make sure you are at the right gate in plenty of time. As someone with a mobility disability, having this service makes a huge difference. The security people at Sydney airport are very respectful and polite.

    Hellooooo Australia!
    Leland S.

Lelanded! I was pretty excited to see what Australia had to offer. AMBIANCE: Welcome to Down Under! It was a nice welcoming. I remember seeing many stores from food, souvenirs, technology, and cosmetics. It was relatively clean and had a good flow. PARKING: Structured parking. It felt pretty accessible as once I got picked up, we walked to the parking structure. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Helpful people. I was looking for places such as the exit and such and they responded with a positive attitude. TL;DR OVERALL: 4 Stars. Great! Airports are all about first impressions and this left a great one! I have a lot of admiration for this country and look forward to visiting soon. Tips: * They don't mark your passport with an Australia stamp (sadness)

We left Miami on 11/15 & arrived in Sydney on 11/17. Long, crowded, noisy flight business class would be $20,000 RT from lax. The airport was clean, felt new, I'd bring refurbished & everything was well marked. We followed the lines from the plane, through a huge duty free shop, to scan our passport, get out luggage & get in a taxi. There were no waits, it was easy.

A gorgeous Sydney skyline view from here.

I connected once through this airport. My main recollection was it was a clean and airy airport and it's positioned with an awesome and handsome view of downtown Sydney. As you might expect, Qantas rules big time here. I watched long haul carriers land incessantly in front of a skyline view on a sunny day and it quickly passed the time away. My time here was relatively short but quite memorable.

My experience is only for the international terminal. There are plenty of signage to get you where you need to go. There were plenty of food options before and after going through security screening. The duty-free shops were well organized and the selection was good. Getting through passport check with the Australian Border Force was pretty easy especially if you have an ePassport where you can use one of the SmartGates. It was super easy to take the train into the Central Business District area via the T8 train line as there's a train station connected to the terminal.

Yet, the old girl feels a little tired and certainly doesn't have the oomph that Gayle and I have experienced with Istanbul or Singapore. If and when we come back to Australia, it won't be through this airport. Why? The new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) is currently in its final testing and operational readiness phase, with passenger services scheduled to begin in October 2026.

We were granted an electronic visa for tourism within 72 hours of our application and excitedly awaited our upcoming travel this March. We were a bit apprehensive about finding our way through Sydney's International Terminal, but were quickly relieved by clear directional signs and quick, easy electronic passport screening. We were impressed with the modern, sleek yet friendly-looking facility, the multiple new electronic security kiosks designed to handle the large number of incoming visitors and returning residents, and the local artwork displays. I must say it took us around 15 minutes from the arrival gate to baggage claim, then to check in and pass through immigration, as we didn't have anything to declare. Once we exited immigration, we met with our driver, who was proudly showing a company placard with our names boldly printed. This was by far the best and most efficient arrival procedures and processing into a foreign country that we have ever encountered. We'd happily return.

Ended up being an easy experience: a good start to a long flight back to the States. We stayed overnight around Chinatown in Sydney, and our flight was leaving around 09:30, so pre-reserved an Uber for 06:00 pickup. It was a Friday morning, and the area was pretty empty so pickup was easy and ended up being about a 30 minute drive (costing AU$50). The dropoff area is large, identified by letters, so even though the Uber App asked which airline we were taking, it didn't tell the driver which letter to drop us off at. Thus, he did it as fast as possible (near 'B'), and we found out inside that Delta was 'J' (so a bit of a walk with a lot of checked baggage). This could work better if it was more clearly identifiable which airlines were where. There was a dedicated area to self-checkin and print out any luggage tags. There was only one flight but the lines were a bit long though it moved quickly. There were ambassadors pre-checking passports using ipads, and tagging carry-on bags to ease later processing. We were able to check in all of the bags we needed, and then headed through restaurants and shops before reaching immigration. Immigration was a simple photo take and you were on your way. Next was security: laptops and shoes could remain as-is; only belts and emptying of pockets was required. They still use full body scans here, though they ask for your arms to be at your side slightly away from your body instead of the jumping jack position that I was used to when going through in the States. My bag did get flagged, but a supervisor was able to confirm that it was a harmless back scratcher and didn't have to open the bag. You then walk through long wide corridors of duty free shops. We ended up stopping at two different lounges, but still got to the gate just before they started boarding. There are plenty of seating at the gates, and the mouth of the entrance to the jet bridge is wide: even though there were a lot of folks waiting around, it didn't seem as crowed. Another picture of your face got you through, and we were able to fully get everybody onboard 20 minutes before schedule (though we actually took off about 25 minutes after).

In the vicinity of my gate and even beyond there were two filtered water drinking fountains that had lines wrapped around the corner with a minimum 20 people per line. With something like that, I would say you have a crystal clear problem that needs to be addressed, which is more filtered water fountains to refill water bottles!!! In addition to that, there were lines for the women's bathroom, which indicates they need more stalls for the ladies. The other huge complaint is gate 26. We were switched to gate 26 and there was a large crowd of people just blocking it hoarding this area with a guy saying oh no it's gonna be a while. I'll sit down. This is with United Airlines only to find out that he opens it and then you go down there to find a BCDEFG which is additional united airlines "gates". So you'd have several airplanes out there that you're walking to with all these different booths and lines and workers with very minimal seating area so that's what they don't tell you but that's what nobody knows so you're at this large area gate 26 wondering what's going on everybody was confused. This is a complaint to the United Airlines and Sydney Airport. We need clear communications and signage as well as more water bottle Fill stations and ladies bathrooms.
