My adult son has been in and out of this facility for various issues including depression, suicidal ideation, bipolar disorder (allegedly), etc. I've never had a problem with a therapist until this evening. If you ever have the misfortune of talking to someone named Austin may God help you. He was rude, condescending, and accusatory. Offered zero solutions to help my son and wanted to blame me for all of my son's issues (which stem in large amount from my son willfully and intentionally not taking his medications). During the phone call I did get defensive as I'm human. I didn't take well to someone being judgemental and making assumptions about me or my life when they knew nothing about me. After 15 minutes of him browbeating me and blaming me for my son's issues he randomly put me on hold because hold music suddenly came on and after a few minutes I hung up. If this is how their "therapists" treat family members then I feel bad for the patients. read more

Absolutely the most egregious slap in the face possible for someone struggling with their mental health. Being told that their perspective is wrong while being spoon fed lies, outdated misinformation, and damaging ideologies. Staff will attempt to strip you of your rights in anyway possible at every available opportunity, even goings as far as to try to convince you to do things against your will. Myra (php) is the most condescending, disgraceful, backhanded person I've met in the mental health field in my entire life. Going out of her way to try and embarrass her clients and make them uncomfortable/agitated. Misdiagnosing people while also telling them their other diagnoses isn't truth. The medical records department never returns calls -- ever. You can leave as many voice mails as you want, but they will go ignored. The telephone receptionists are consistently rude and interrupt mental health patients and then get snippy when asked to listen without interrupting. Furthermore, they breathe into the telephone. One of the orderlies shouts and jokes around at fullest volume at her colleages a throught the hospital corridors from one end to the other. The noise in the lobby is maddening. Workers shout and allow people visiting the facility to make as much noise as they wish. Professionalism does not exist here (except for Bill and Thania). Do not go here if you expect to be be treated like a human being; you will leave in worse shape than when you arrived. You'll be treated as an afterthought. You have been advised. read more

This place has gone to extreme shit. The doctors and staff here don't give half a crap about you inside of here, and even after you leave. It's been a week and two days and my antipsychotic still isn't authorized. I'm having withdrawals from it that are making me very sick. The staff either won't answer my calls, ignore my pleas for them to authorize my meds, or send me to a voicemail that isn't set up. One time one of their staff even threatened to hang up on me because I told her calmly I thought the situation was bullshit. I called medicaid today to hear they started an authorization and cancelled it. They don't care about you, go to the state hospital instead, at least you know what you're in for there. read more

Things went really well my first two in partial hospitalization program (PHP). They got me on a good prescription, I was paired decently with a therapist. It was a great, safe environment. But after I reacted allergically to my new prescription, that remaining week the doctor didn't see me until my second to last day to prescribe me a new medication. The doctor somehow made the mistake of thinking I was in PHP for another week. None of my nurses or doctors had something consistent to tell me about my final few days in PHP, leaving me unsure about next steps. I was also told that they would help me find a psychiatrist and therapist in my final week to make sure I would be alright after I leave. They didn't keep their word, and I had no idea what to do after it was over. That prescription also never went through, my pharmacy never received that order. Without my medication (one prescription that was not changed), I relapsed even harder because on top of dealing with additional stress due to Sycamore Spring's irresponsibility with their prescription, I didn't have something my body was now adapted to have to function normally. Once I was able to gain enough composure, I called Sycamore Springs to sort things out. I spoke with Susan, a nurse, who is friendly, but she was not able to reach a solution for me or have the dignity to tell me she could not do anything. She said she would look in to it, I told her to update me in two days, she agreed, but then she didn't keep her word, and left me abandoned. My older brother, my guardian called seeking more information as to why I wasn't taken care of for a service I had paid for. My brother was told I should visit them the next day (today) to sort everything out. I, today, found out that Sycamore Springs actually cancelled the prescription upon realizing their error. So either Sycamore Springs believes it's okay to misinform and lie to their patient or their staff has no idea what's going on with their patients. I was also was accused and blamed while I was reassessed today. I felt incredibly attacked, and had it not been for my level of frustration with the situation, I would have broken down. I still have depression and anxiety in addition to other ailments. I spoke with Natane today, and she did not care at all about my side of the story. She did not ask what I went through during this ordeal. She was unwilling to work with me. She was solely searching for ways to protect herself and Sycamore Springs. It honestly felt as if she were trying to get me to leave, and no attempt was made to restore the relationship between I and Sycamore Springs. I am truly and utterly displeased with the level of care provided by Sycamore Springs - I regret giving them the opportunity. read more

Sycamore Springs is an unorganized and unprofessional disaster. I couldn't even see a real doctor until 30 hours into my stay, and when I did, he was condescending and insulting. When I left, I was harassed by the entire staff, which is funny considering they shouted to each other through the ward constantly about their asinine personal lives; who is the adult here? Also, when I left, they didn't have me go through a discharge checklist to ensure I had all the belongings I came in with. So I now have some things missing, including five DVDs and $71 from my wallet (which was locked up, and only the staff were able to access). They humiliated me, harassed me, and stole from me. Terrible place. First of all, I called to get information on the facility. The guy that answered the phone was not only insensitive, but also had little knowledge about the questions I was asking. After calling and having them verify that the "patient's" insurance was covered completely by them-- we drove three hours to get him checked in. Once we got there we waited thirty minutes. The "patient" asked if they would be seeing him soon, as no one else was waiting...finally they took him to do an assessment with someone who tried to do the assessment before even taking his insurance card...once he insisted they do-- turns out his insurance didn't cover this place. So we turned around and left. At this point there was multiple calls to the facility who claimed each time a manager would call back when she got out of a meeting, after the fourth call to the facility, she was gone. So that should tell you enough about this place. read more

This place is an absolute joke. I had a family member admitted for an acute manic episode. Twice. The first time he needed some help calming down and balancing medication. Also some substance abuse issues. The counselor said they had no empty beds and to come back on Monday. No referral. No transfer for another facility. No help at all. She was very kind, but other than that, total mistreatment and inability to understand the situation. The second time we went back for the same problem. But it was a month later after dealing with this issue the whole time and he was spiraling fast. He was admitted on an EDO (72 hours) because he was a danger to his family. Danger as in sexual and physical assault, verbal and emotional abuse, threatening calls and messages. The family was advised during the Psych evaluation in the ER to stay away because he was a danger. We called Sycamore after he was admitted to try and give the medical staff our side of the story. We never asked them to confirm/deny if a patient was there. Never said names. We have a right to give information and they basically told us to fuck ourselves and hung up on us (in so many words). We absolutely have a right to speak to medical staff as family to the patient. And we were denied. I can't believe how disrespected and misunderstood I was treated as a family member of someone who really needs help. I listened to the automated message the whole time I was on hold about how caring they are and how they work their hardest to keep family involved with the treatment. The staff was unprofessional, disrespectful of suffering, and would give me no information even on the general facility let alone a patient. I spoke with Jerry (unsure of last name) on the phone. She is apparently a supervisor in the Lafayette, IN branch. I could not believe how someone who is a boss in a medical profession was talking to me as a family member concerned for my safety because of a patient. She acted like this was a new thing. I have every right to tell my side of the story and she shut me down immediately. All I can say is my phone call with Jerry and her associate below her in rank was rude, unprofessional, cold, abrasive, and a total misrepresentation of what Sycamore Springs claims it stands for regarding mental health. People who are suffering in mental health need empathy and understanding. Not just the patient, but the people that love them as well. read more

I've been here as both a patient and a visitor. No person or organization is perfect but this place has done and continues to do some good work helping people get healthier. If you're in need of help I can recommend this place wholeheartedly. They are continually trying to improve the level and quality of care. If you really want your loved one to get the best care for their problems then I would recommend driving 50 minutes south to Fairbanks. Fairbanks is one of the top treatment facilities in the country and only being 60 miles from this place I would recommend you go there. read more

Two months ago: This facility is about to release my brother, who has tried to commit suicide twice now (second time being last weekend) and has been in and out of this facility four times now. Clearly something is not working, and they are about to release a highly unstable patient who is in high danger of hurting himself. His entire family loves him and wants to get him into a long-term rehab facility, and work with Sycamore Springs to develop a long-term plan to do this, but Sycamore Springs REFUSES. They DO NOT call back. They DO NOT care that their patients are unstable before discharging them. They DO NOT care about any input from the parents EXCEPT for financial input! Sycamore Springs seems to create patients that continually return, which ultimately creates more income for them. I fully believe they are treating my brother as a paycheck and do not care that he is about to kill himself. Please return our many calls before you discharge my suicidal brother, so he can get the appropriate long-term care that he desperately needs. Your counselors have been wrong about my brother being okay the first three times he has been left your facility, and you are about to send him to his death. Today's update: Sure enough, they did not return phone calls and he was in and out of their facility at least once more after discharging him when he was not well. They also did not catch a drug test true positive and seemed to have wrote it off as that it is usually a false positive. My brother did not get appropriate treatment and they did not work with my family to get him the help that he needs. It really did seem like all they cared about was the intake money. Speaking of money, Sycamore Springs DID NOT file the insurance paperwork immediately, so they collected the deductible from us without filing appropriately with the insurance company. Therefore, when my brother went to the ER DAYS AFTER HIS STAY AT SS, the hospital filed the insurance appropriately on time and because SS did not file their paperwork properly, the hospital filed for the deductible (as it wasnt on our records yet due to SS filing negligence). So now we owe the hospital the deductible out of pocket as well, after we gave SS the thousands of dollars out of pocket for the deductible. So basically, SS took the thousands for the deductible and then I believe collected the same amount from the insurance due to not filing on time or properly. This is called FRAUD. Considering challenging their accreditation and seeking legal help, as they are taking over 6 weeks so far to refund the thousands they owe us. Thank you for putting us in this position to owe another medical facility thousands of dollars due to your insurance paperwork negligence and thank you for not even helping my brother, or even bothering to refund money in a timely manner or returning our calls. My mom went there about 8 years ago to be evaluated for dementia. She was there over a week. They said she was fine with no sign of it. She had many signs of the onset. We took her back to the assisted living facility and within a couple months they told us that she needed to be in a lock down facility because of the mental depression she was in and had to get re-evaluated to see if she could stay there. Took her to Lebanon to be evaluated and they said she was in middle stage of dementia (which made sense with the symptoms she had). It is scary to think what might have happen if we did not get the correct diagnosis. We talked to them about why their diagnosis was so different and they didn't say much. When I visited my mom there, she was very uncomfortable there with the staff and other patients, both mental and addiction ones.we definitely did not have a good experience there and would not recommend it! read more

I brought my boyfriend out there because it is advertised as a dual diagnosis facility. He is bipolar and has problems with addiction. At Sycamore Springs they changed his meds daily and I watched him fall apart as the meds piled up. He saw a doctor once a day for 10min maximum. He was given 2 one on one therapy sessions during his 13day stay. Other than that it was arts and crafts classes and decent cafeteria food. He was threatening to hurt himself 5days into his stay and had recieved ZERO treatment for addiction. By day 11 he was determined to leave & also saying he wanted to die and he was on 7 different prescription meds. His personality changed rapidly. Everyday he called and was a different and more frightening man. They sent him out on day 13 with 7 different psy med prescriptions. He does not recall checking out and only has flashes of memory of what became of him and his Sycamore Springs prescribed 270 Ativans over the next 12 days. When he came home to me after a 12day binge he was in the beginning of kidney failure. We brought him to the ER & the doctor checked him out and said he was lucky he came in when he did. W/O medical care he was within days of death. He had to stay at the state hospital 5 days and I am forever greatful for the care he got there. Sycamore Springs should be shut down. read more

I am so disappointed in this facility... My daughter who is 21 went for an assessment for depression and anxiety.She lives on her own and pays her own bills but is still covered by our insurance. Our insurance covers 80 percent but in order to treat her outpatient they wanted 1800.00 up front she told them that she could only pay 200 a month and they seriously turned her away crying because she didnt have the up front money. This is a young woman who is trying to get some help and they would not even work with her as far as payments. no wonder so many people go untreated. Its sad that the bottom line is money even though the insurance would have paid the majority of it. read more

I called Sycamore Springs on 2.20.14 at 3:04 pm it rang 7-10 times before anyone picked up my call. The phone was answered Hi this is Susan on the meadows unit. I asked to be connected to Katie Leming admin assistant. Susan said " Oh she must have not been at her desk, hold on one moment." She never returned. I waited on hold for twenty minutes and then called from a different phone. Chris answered the phone and I asked to be transferred. Someone answered the phone (Brook possibly) and I requested to talk to Susan. I was informed that Susan was with a patient and was unavailable to come to the phone. I explained that I had been on hold for over twenty minutes and wanted to speak to a supervisor. Brook then placed me on hold again for 1-2 minutes. Susan came to the phone and I asked her what happened. She said she tried to transfer me and didn't know why the call was "lost" This is completely unacceptable for any business- but especially when dealing with clientele of such a delicate nature in your case. Unprofessional does not begin to define this interaction. Your staff should be trained on the elaborate process of using a phone system. i.e. placing calls on hold, transferring etc. Complicated stuff, I know! If your employees are incapable of providing your services they should probably be employed somewhere else. At a very minimum they should receive proper training to do the jobs they have been hired to do. If an expectation is that they field phone calls, they should be capable of doing so. The bottom-line here for you- Hypothetically, I just as well could have been someone reaching out for help. Help because of an addiction, help for debilitating depression, or suicidal. Help I would not have received, given this interaction. I was made to feel very unimportant, and unworthy of the product you advertise- Help. I can only wonder how many times someone in need has had this exact encounter, and did not receive help because of it. Looking forward to improved services. read more

Do not go to this facility. My husband went there on his admission. He was then asked questions about suicide and they admitted him for a 72 hour hold. During his stay no one told me anything and the answers I did get changed day to day. They take their sweet ass time getting the family and even the patient answers to questions. When he wanted to be released they took their time in answering wether or not he'd be able to leave. When he told the doctors he'd call the Patient Advocacy line, the doctor threatened him with a court order! Even though he committed no crime and expressed to them that he no longer wanted hurt himself. He said they gave him Valium which made him feel high so he didn't want to take it. He even informed me that some of the other patients had been there 3-4 times already. He's an epileptic who can't take meds all willy nilly and stop. He knows this. So the more he fought the doctors on it, the more they wanted him to stay there. This facility looks expensive and I don't believe their treatment works. He told the doctors he knows what he's done and wants to go come seeking other therapy and groups and they still refused to let him go. When he said the right things they want to keep and when he said the wrong thing they want to keep him. Please seek other facilities. read more

I have recently been in the inpatient program. I was treated with respect and dignity. While i was there the food was actually very good, restaurant quality. The staff, nurses, PSA's and even the maintenance men were very friendly and concerned about you as an individual. You must realize the impatient program is a very structured program of recovery. The purpose of inpatient care is stabilization... in other words it is there to help you survive... the nest step is IOP or PHP which is designed to help you Thrive. Make the choice when coming to this facility to know where you are in your mental wellness, or addiction to understand the purpose the inpatient programs offer. There is always the possibility that some of the patients are worse off than you and there can be distractions. When this occurs the staff is quick to resolve it. Through out my 9 day stay I can honestly tell you i felt cared for every day. You will see your Doctor EVERY DAY... you will also meet with you Therapist daily and have access to them at any time. If you have medical conditions they also offer acute medical relief with a MD. I understand the choice to come to an inpatient program may see daunting or overwhelming... Please don't wait until its too late.. do not go anywhere else in the region... Sycamore Springs will make the difference! read more

The appearance of the facility is beautiful and the people are friendly. However, the service offered is not conducive to an active schedule. It was unappealing that before the intake assessment was finished diagnoses were thrown into the conversation. I find it very negligent to be so quick to place a label. I understand that setting a diagnosis is important and I put value in those, I feel it is very negligent to state a diagnosis before being fully assessed. It was also disturbing that there was an obvious agenda to make placements in the day programs without regard of the client's schedule or even the client's location of residence. We decided to go for a second opinion and I am so grateful we did. I am so glad we decided follow my gut feeling and went elsewhere. I would NEVER suggest going here.
