We were picked up at our home, taken to the dock, and given the best service ever. The professional guide (Raul) is Coast Guard certified as a captain, he is thorough and explains all aspects of the experience as it is happening. Having a special needs child is difficult and new experiences are tough but he went above and beyond to make her feel special. We caught 9 fish and the afternoon was a success. On our way back he stopped and cleaned the fish for us which was super cool to watch and also saved me the worry of having to clean. We loved everything about this and hope to do it again! This time, we brought our RV. Our stay was equally nice. Very peaceful, quiet atmosphere. We saw beautiful deer roaming around, sometimes in large herds. This place is very family and pet friendly as well. "Susy " the office receptionist and "Kurt" the gentleman that runs Fort Clark are very friendly and helpful. If you love nature and the beauty of it, stop by here. They have RV spots and hotel rooms. Only thing is, there is no WiFi nor cable in the RV areas all other hookups are provided (water/electricity/sewer). There is walking trail, museum, fresh spring swimming pool, golf course, laundry area and daily activities throughout each month. Highly recommend !

Once we were pass the gate, we used the map we were given to explore by car for awhile before deciding to park and walk to get the best view of the historic buildings and homes. One of the residents saw us and offered to show us around. We love history (my husband really loves military history) so we had a great time here because there is so much history. The map did a pretty good job of allowing us to see what the older buildings used to be during another era -- including the old commissary and an old barracks building.

The furnishings have not changed since our first stay in 2004! In the first room the once beautiful desk is warped and the top is coming off. The picture of the tv stand is from the room we had to move to, and you see the doors are sprung. The bedspreads and mint green blankets are the same, which leaves me to wonder about the mattresses. I know, I know GROSS! The building is old, we understand that. In fact, we live the fact that the motel Is the old barracks and have lots of history, so age isn't the issue. The issue is the upkeep. Paint and general maintenance isn't that expensive as long as you stay on top of it all. It is ultimately clear this is not the case at FCS. It's sad, at the very least. This place as the ability to be amazing; it once was! We rented two rooms for two nights. I was applauded at the state of the room when I arrived. But the second night brought it a different point. My husband walked into the bathroom (thankfully, he had just entered the doorway) when something shot from the bathtub drain and emitted an odor that sent us fleeing. We called the security booth as the office had already closed, and the nice lady came down to check out what was going on. She made a call and got us into another room that she did verify had toilet paper and towels. We even got a bonus picture included of a Nike tag stuck in the wall. When we entered the room, it was hot, which is expected it is Texas in June! But as the a/c didn't cool the room. My sweet husband took a look and found the filters to be insanely filthy. The pictures included are after soaking in the back for an hour! They have placed a note on the a/c not to turn it to its coldest setting because it will freeze. Maybe they should learn to clean the washable filters to make the a/c units last longer, be more efficient, and not freeze up. I hope that my words are used for the good to improve FCS to its former glory. This truly is a wonderful place that has somehow gotten lost in the shuffle; this place holds so much history it deserves to be treated with respect.
