Expensive but worth it if you are looking for a quick "fast track" swimming lesson option for your child. Every other pool I looked into would not do private lessons for my 2 year old, and steered me to Parent/Tot classes. No offense, but my daughter needed someone other than her mommy to help her learn the life-saving skills I want her to develop. In 8 lessons she has built her confidence and is able to float for a few (3-4) seconds unassisted. I am pleased with her progress but have a couple notes for other parents to consider: 1. $30 per 15 minute lesson is expensive and there are other options at other locations depending on your child's age and need...check your local community or high school pool first 2. This is NOT the life-rescue class I had originally thought it was, but does incorporate and focus on many of those skills along with standard swim skills 3. There are no Davis county options (as of today) which makes these not only expensive but time consuming as an option (note there is a similar program in Syracuse that is $30 for a 30 minute lesson) read more

We've been coming here for a month now for private lessons for my 5yo. Instructor Collin has been wonderful for my son. We do 15 minute private lessons which cost the same as a 30 minute group lesson anywhere else but with 1:1 focus he gets the full 15 minutes 100% focused on just him which I feel is way better than a 30 minute with several other kids. Since he's never done swim lessons and I'm not a good swimmer myself, this has been perfect for us. They offer group lessons, they have punch passes, and they have an annual fee as well as a reschedule/makeup fee, but I don't know any other place that has makeups if you miss a lesson, so I think it's totally worth it. We will have to change his swim time once school starts but I think until he passes all 10 levels, we will be continuing our lessons here. read more

The instructors are absolutely fantastic! My issue is with the way they handle make up sessions and follow ups with customers. There is a little to no flexibility when life matters come up even if it's 24 hours before. On a make up session, which was not our fault for even having (there was a vomit incident in the pool), they would not allow us to switch the make up session to another day. I am not trying to sound like a Karen, but you cannot be so stringent on policies to where you have little to no flexibility for life matters for your clients. I can only speak to the punch pass as that's the only lessons I've purchased due to our circumstances. We've gone to SwimKids for about 3 years now. At first it was great, but things have gone downhill over the past two years. I do NOT recommend buying the punch pass. It's nearly impossible to get a lesson with a teacher your child is familiar with and even when you do respond VERY quickly (under 60 seconds) to their text messages, they write back hours later telling you someone else responded quicker than you did which is unlikely. Lessons are also only 15 minutes but they do not build in any buffer time between kids. Because of this, my son's lessons are frequently cut short by 33%, which is a big chunk of time considering how short the lesson is. Overall, the punch pass and SwimKids brings me a lot of frustration. We will be moving on to another company due to these issues. read more

2 of my daughters did a few lessons each in the fall. We signed up with a teacher that was recommended to us. When we got there the front office staff were nice but then the instructor just called out my daughter's name and didn't introduce herself, say hi, or make any small talk upon first meeting my daughter. After both of my kids finished their lessons (which the instructor ended 3 min early, and remember, it's only a 15 in lesson), I went to introduce myself to the instructor. Only then did I learn that she was a substitute and finally learned her name. Also, this was a weekday evening around 7pm and there were so many kids in the pool and families along the edges, it did not feel safe at all in the world of COVID. My kids ended up liking the sub and so we switched to a less busy time on a Friday afternoon so it would be a little safer. They had a couple lessons with this teacher before she quit. We then had to scramble to find another female teacher that could teach my 2 daughters back-to-back. We finally found one and when we got to the first lesson with the new teacher we found out there was a male teacher-in-training. My daughters are shy to begin with and even worse with males and so this is why we specifically wanted a female instructor. After about 2 minutes in the pool with the teacher-in-training my oldest daughter swam to the edge, burst into tears and said she was never going back there again. They have such bad communication there, starting with the instructors not even introducing themselves or saying hi to the kids and the parents upon meeting them, to not notifying families if there will be a sub or a teacher-in-training. It felt like the instructors were just there for a paycheck and did not actually enjoy working with kids. Also there was a family watching their child swim who would continuously, week after week, pull their masks below their chin to talk to each other. Never once did an instructor or staff member say anything to them. I asked the staff at the front desk to talk to them about it, and then the following week the same thing occurred. After that we stopped lessons because of the incident with my daughter and the continued unsafe environment that was not being enforced. Lastly, the swim instructors would never talk or say hi to the students or parents until the second it was time for the lesson to start, even if they were just waiting in the pool for the correct time. You would think they would want to develop relationships with the kids they are teaching or at the very least be friendly, but we did not experience that during our lessons. The only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 0 is that my daughters did learn a few good swimming skills, other than that I was not happy with our experience. I tried to get a refund for the remainder of our money we had given them for the month and even talked to the general manager of the Holladay location, and she refused. Exceptions should be make to policies and they would not budge or let me talk to anyone higher up. Not happy with them!!! read more

Terrible business. We have been doing the Fast Track for 5 months which is 10 lessons for $205 plus registration fees. You are required to book all 10 lessons (2 lessons a week) immediately upon purchase. If you need to cancel a class and schedule a make up, they charge you $5 every time unless you give them 1 MONTH NOTICE. There is no business I have ever been to that has such a horrible and cancellation/reschedule policy. Any normal, professional business asks that you provide 24 hour notice. They will also charge you $5 if you have to miss when your child is sick. The time we swim is 1-3pm, which most of the time my son is the only kid in the pool. I am certain when we have call to reschedule 2 weeks out, we aren't leaving them hanging with prime pool real estate. You would think allowing a schedule change with reasonable notice in order to keep paying customers would be common sense to keep customers. When you need to reschedule, they only allow you to book the new lesson 3 days in advance... no more. They will hound you like a collection company for their $5... like the paper boy from Better off Dead ;) They will nickel and dime you for everything they can. I have had several other friends who no longer take their children here for the exact same reason. You are losing customers over your terrible policies and business practices. read more

The best thing I can say is that our swim instructor, Ms Lizzy, is kind and gentle with our daughter. She appears to be fully invested in helping kids learn to swim safely with the limited resources available to her. This review focus' on the business of Swimkids. It appears they use a bastardized iteration of Toyota's Lean Production System. Swimkids emphasizes profit overall. Business operations are disorganized and unsupervised by management. The operation is run by high school and college students on the front end and the back end appears to be run by computer automation. We did not receive any receipt for our upfront payment. There was poor communication throughout our 3 week fast track; when we had questions there was radio silence, however, when they need to cancel on you or substitute instructors they will notify you last minute. Bad business practices overall in my opinion and I am a business owner. This place survives by the fact that it's the only option available in the area. read more

We love swimkids, it is definitely pricey but worth it, we especially love the teachers that have been around longer just because of the consistency and how good they are with our kids. We did leave after our kids stopped improving about three years ago but wanting something nearby and consistent for the kids, we are back and love how they've changed a bit of the structure and define the levels and skill sets taught a lot more. Ultimately, the price and time investment seems to be the same as that which you might spend on group lessons, the kids seem to learn a lot quicker with private lessons. My 2 children took weekly lessons here for nearly 8 years. So, It is with mixed emotions that I post this negative review. Over the years we had times when the lessons and teachers were great and times when it seemed that there was a different teacher each week. The facilities were consistently in need of repair. Often our children's lessons started late because the teachers were running behind, yet the lesson still ended on time, meaning we paid for much time that did not translate into lessons due to no fault of ours. We gave grace when things were not good (never complaining) and sincerely appreciated when things were great. We referred numerous neighbors and friends. We faithfully paid each month (it isn't cheap). We bought too many pairs of goggles from them to count, as well as caps and swimmer's shampoo. However, something has recently changed. And, this change is not a result of COVID. Customer service is absent. We are dismissed and demeaned by employees who are inflexible and incapable of the ability to forge and maintain relationships. After so many years - we are sad and disappointed. But, we cannot sit idly by and not share this experience with families who may be considering Swim Kids. read more

We tried really hard to give SwimKids multiple chances, and we finally realized nothing was changing. Communication is terrible, teachers leave, substitutes are way too often, and their refund policy when you are unhappy with their service is non-existent. I rarely if ever leave reviews and certainly not negative ones that may affect a small business. However, I feel compelled to let others know about our experience with Swimkids so you can avoid the same mistake if your situation is similar to ours. I had several friends recommend Swimkids to me when we first moved back to Utah 2 years ago so once COVID restrictions were lifted, we signed up right away. My 6-year-old daughter had already done private lessons for 1 year in Seattle but was feeling a bit scared to get started again after 1 1/2 years without any swimming lessons. She also has a diagnosed anxiety disorder for which she is undergoing treatment. I told her instructor this prior to her lesson and also that she hadn't done swimming lessons for awhile and would need to ease back into it. Within 5 minutes of her lesson starting, my daughter was in tears and had to get out of the pool. She didn't want Sarah (our coach) to let go of her in the water when she couldn't touch. She was sobbing and shaking. So I asked Sarah to hold onto her until she felt more comfortable. Sarah literally rolled her eyes at me and said, "Fine but she'll be at a level one in that case." Okay. As if I care what level she is at. I simply want her to feel comfortable in the water. I was finally able to convince my daughter to get in and finish her lesson but this was traumatizing to say the least. Honestly, I would have been okay if the next thing hadn't happened. My 3-year-old daughter who does not have anxiety and was super excited to start swimming lessons then got in. Sarah was a bit nicer to her but again, within 5 minutes of her lesson starting, she was crying and had to get out of the water. She said she didn't want her coach dunking her under the water yet. Again, I asked Sarah to avoid putting her under for this lesson and she said that in that case, the assessment couldn't be completed because she had to go under a total of 6 times during the assessment. Sarah did absolutely nothing to try and ease my daughter back into the pool and finally, we just left and didn't finish the lesson. I was pretty upset and called Swimkids. I had had to pay in advance for 4 lessons each child up front in addition to a registration fee. They offered to put us with a different coach but the manager made it clear that their strategy is to go hard in order to get the kids used to the water. She even said that they might cry for the first 6 sessions. That didn't seem like a good fit for us but I wanted to be sure I wasn't over-reacting so I spoke to my oldest daughter's therapist. She verified that it was a traumatic experience and recommended that I don't take them back. So I asked for a refund of my $234.00 that I had spent on future lessons and have been told "no" repeatedly. Despite telling them about my daughter's anxiety disorder and offering to provide a note from her therapist or pediatrician. I'm upset about the money but more upset about how they treat their clients and the kids. I've given up on getting any of my money back but I will tell you that we then signed up with Goldfish Academy and man, what a different experience! Both kids were understandably scared the first lesson but the coaches are absolutely wonderful and made them feel comfortable. We have been to 4 lessons now and my older daughter absolutely loves it. Not only that but she is "swimming" (doing scoops and pulls) by herself and diving for objects under the water without any problem. She's already back to where she was while taking lessons in Seattle. It's amazing the difference. If you're still reading, please know that if you have a child who is scared or nervous about the water or swimming, Swimkids may not be a good fit for you and your family. And you will definitely not get any money back so at least ask for a free trial lesson (which is not offered on their website and which I didn't know about). read more

I am sad to give this place a bad review, it just isn't a reputable service. We pay 15 dollars extra for an advanced trained swim instructor, the problem is she sleeps through our appointments and then we are rescheduled with a novice instructor and billed a premium price. In March they billed me and did not keep track and contacted me for another $45 when I only received two swim lessons. I basically will pay 140 dollars for two fifteen minute lessons with an instructor in training. When I showed the billing department the bank withdraw they said it wasn't evidence that they had done the withdraw. So I will pay double for lessons in March that I did not receive. I also currently work in the ER and just do not have the emotional energy to fight them, so I will let them steal from me instead. This is not a good company to use your resources on, support a local business for your swim needs. read more

My 2 year old daughter loves swimming here. Recently we took her to the beach an the was her first time near waves. She regressed a little bit however I told the teacher not to be afraid to push her. And she did push my daughter. My daughter was afraid of floating and the teacher was very gentle but didn't give in to her crying and then by the end she was enjoying following achieve. So if I see her getting sick 24 hrs prior to the class and let them know there would not be this fee, but if the kid wakes up to a fever or is acutely sick , they would not . We showed up to a parent tot lesson this morning and were told we were not scheduled for the class. I spoke with the person at the front desk who said she was unable to do anything about the scheduling error. I asked if we could do the make up class we were scheduled for the next day today instead. I was told that was not an option and that I would need to pay $17 for the class if we wanted to do it today. I contacted SwimKids customer support and they said this was an error on their end (we should have been signed up for the class) and then they discontinued the conversation when I explained our situation and asked for help resolving it. We drove 30 min to the location and anyone who has toddlers attending a swim class knows it requires extra effort to make this happen so I really did not appreciate the inflexibility of SwimKids in helping us resolve this, especially when they said it was an error on their end. I recognize these are first world problems, but I'm a disappointed customer and feel justified in sharing my experience. We moved here after a horrible experience somewhere else. The private lessons were perfect for my 3yr old, who had a hard time staying focused in group classes. Here is my list of pros and cons. Pros: 1. Survival skills - In the beginning they focus on teaching little ones how to float on their backs and how to get out of the pool by themselves. 2. The building and pool are actually quite warm. (I was surprised to see someone say the opposite.) We've been going here for 3 years and never had a problem with it being cold. 3. The teachers are knowledgeable and very good with kids. If you feel your child needs to be pushed a little more, they listen. 4. Once the kids have advanced to a certain level, they move them to a group class. In the group class they work on building strength (laps) and form. My now 6 year old can swim freestyle, dolphin, breath stroke, etc... in laps. Cons: 1. They have 1 dressing room upstairs, which doesn't have a door, so it's great for babies and toddlers, not so much for 6 yr olds. They have a girls bathroom and a boys bathroom downstairs. Since mostly women are bringing the kids, the girls bathroom is too cramped. The just need to make the bathrooms gender neutral. 2. I find their make-up lesson policies are a bit of a headache and I don't think anyone appreciates the $5 charge. You have to be really on top of things to avoid the charge, and let me tell you, I am not that person. read more

I was not happy with swim kids because of a bad experience with the office and owner Liz. I really like the teacher we have had but the only available time available was at 4:45. I thought we would try it out. That time is horrible. The pool is overcrowded and too much going on. I called and tried to change it or get a refund for my three lessons and they won't refund my money and then to change my lessons they want to charge an additional $5 for each lesson change. Liz was completely unprofessional and did not try to help in any way to make me satisfied. When I told her I wouldn't return for any future lessons she then said she felt bad for my kids. We started or son with swimkids when he was 3 (I think we should have started sooner) He cried for about 2 months every lesson, and he hated going. We kept going because we were seeing improvement with his swimming and the teacher could get him to float and put his face in the water. One day it was like it all clicked with him and I'm glad we kept at it because now he is a little fish! SwimKids is the best place for swim lessons for kids. The instructors and staff are wonderful. My five year old knows all of the strokes with his favorite being the dolphin (I can't even do a dolphin stroke)! My two year old can jump in the water, put her head under, float, find the edge, and get out all on her own. I mean the kids learning all the different strokes is great, but what really matters to me is knowing that if my kids accidentally fall in a pool or lake that they will be okay until I can get to them. Back office is disorganized & rude, we had card on file that expired and without notifying us after paying $100-200 per month for lessons religiously they sent us notice for a $25 card decline charge. They did not notify that card on file was expiring like every company in the world does and refused to waive the $25 fee. We have since cancelled and never do business with again. We have two kids in swimming lessons at SwimKids for the last 18 months. Overall we've been mostly satisfied, especially with certain instructors (not all instructors are created equal). There are a few things I find annoying/disappointing. One is that the 15 minute private lessons often start 2-3 minutes late but always end at the predetermined end time. Thus, the 15 minute lesson tend to be only 12 minutes long. This may seem insignificant to some but it adds up and I do not feel we're getting our money's worth. Another thing is their annual "registration" they charge. If the child is already registered, why charge every year to keep the child in the system? That's a rhetorical question because, just like other organizations that charge bogus admin fees to create customer accounts, SwimKids does this to increase revenue each year by using the money grab technique of an annual registration fee. PLACE IS A ABSOLUTE JOKE!!!!! I enrolled my child making sure there was no cancellation policy and took her for a month. We had a different instructor every class I took my child to and they had no idea what was going on. The other mom in the class that had been taking her kid for the past 4 months had to step in the last 2 classes and "teach the class" explaining to the instructor how the class went and what we did. It was a ridiculous. The class never stabled out and I know none of the other parents are happy with the Kaysville location or class we were in, as I speak with the one mom all the time, and the other our kids go to a gym class together. I tried to call and cancel after a months worth of lessons and am told there is a 4 week cancellation policy - that I was never informed or and I specifically asked about when signing my child up - and they would not let it go even given the circumstances. So I was forced to pay for a whole additional month even though my child hates it and there is absolutely no structure or stability in the class. It was not about the money it is the principle of be up front and honest about what you are signing the parent up for when they call. I will never recommend them to anyone I know or take my children back to swim kids, even when they are a little bigger or want to go to swim lesson. PLACE IS A ABSOLUTE JOKE!!!!! read more

I'm surprised to see the negative reviews on here, we've had nothing but great experiences with SwimKids all around - the lessons and instructors themselves, the office staff, the facilities...they've all been quite good. Our oldest two (5 and 6 yo) had been in private backyard lessons, group rec center lessons and private rec center lessons for three years (starting together when they were 2 and 3yo) and made so very little progress. After many recommendations from friends, I finally bucked up to pay the extra money (SwimKids is very $, it's only negative) and within 1-2 fast tracks my boys were swimming like pros. I'm sure the base of the previous lessons helped, but to go from the private rec center lessons not even being close, to the very next week starting private lessons here and watching them swim independently within only a few lessons...it was definitely the instruction here. Our previous teachers were very kind, but probably too kind. They let the kids run the lessons. At swim kids the instructors were kind but also firm, which was great and just what we needed. I've recenter started my 20month old and 3yo in fast tracks. My 20 month old cried like a banshee the first few lessons but by the second week of her first fast track she was hooked. By the start of our second fast track she looooved it - she brings her swimsuit to me every morning hoping it's a lesson day. She just finished her fourth fast track (she is now 24 months - we did one a month) and she can float on her back independently, turn onto her back from her stomach, grab the edge and climb out. My 3yo just finished her third fast track and can do all of the above plus swim about six strokes (10 ft or so) on her own. Like I said, it is pricey here, but worth the safety and peace of mind knowing if my toddlers fall into a pool, they will at the very least have the skills to save themselves. The way things are going, however, my 3yo I am sure will be swimming completely independently by summer (it is currently December) and likely my 24mo as well (doing one fast track each per month). As far as the facilities go, even on very crowded days we've found them very easy to use with lots of options for changing stalls between the three upper changing rooms and the downstairs bathroom. Finally, we've had to re-schedule lessons several times due to illness and have always found the staff to be extremely helpful about it, friendly and patient, and have never once been charged. Maybe the company has learned from past reviews, I don't know, but we've been there six months now (June-Dec 2018) and have had nothing but great experiences and positive things to say about SwimKids. Most importantly of all, my kids can swim, which is the whole point and which never happened at any of the other three places we took from. If we'd bucked up and paid the higher prices to go to Swimkids to being with, we'd have probably saved money in the long run since we'd spent so much time at other places with so little progress to show for it. WE LOVE SWIMKIDS! My 3 year old has been taking private lessons for the past 4 weeks. He cried his eyes out for the first 3 lessons but his teacher Liz reassured me that things would get better. Wasn't a big fan. I realize every child is different and progresses at a different rate. At first my 2 year old screamed for 5 weeks, which I told wasn't uncommon so I just let it pass. Then he started to make progress. His progress really improved when I would take him to the local rec center and practice the techniques I watched his instructor do with him. We practiced a lot. But after 3 weeks of progress he regressed a ton. Almost like he never had been. While I am aware that this was probably his doing and that maybe he wasn't ready, I was extremely unimpressed with how the instructor handled it. She didn't try anything new, she just kept doing the same things over and over. What is the point of doing that if you're paying for a private lesson with one on one instruction?? Shouldn't a trained teacher be aware that something isn't working and new strategies should be implemented? She also let him tell her what to do, which I noticed the other instructors weren't allowing from their pupils. She then asked me for any advice... I told her about his temperament and what motived him at home, but she never adapted my advice, and to be honest, I'm confused why a parent would be telling a swim teacher how to teach swimming anyway. I was frustrated. I told the office staff and they just told me how to cancel my lessons... No interest at all in helping us all progress and figure the situation out. So I had to wait out a month of lessons while the teacher did nothing. I told her we were quitting and she said, "maybe next time he'll do better." There was no concern or interest in his progress. On the last lesson where she knew he wasn't coming back she didn't even attempt to teach him. They just sat in the water and threw toys around and splashed. I felt so ripped off. Literally over $300 just down the toilet. Don't waste your money on $20 per 15 minutes unless your child is extremely self motivated and be very picky about which instructor your child gets if you want to pursue this. I will say that my 2 year old is now taking group lessons from a teacher in our neighborhood at a local pool for a fraction of the cost of Swim Kids. After 4 days with 30 minute lessons he's doing things that he never did in 12+ weeks of lessons at Swim Kids. They tell you at Swim Kids that 15 minutes is the max your child can take for lessons. Well, my active and crazy 2 year old is in 30 minutes and has progressed by leaps and bounds. Obviously every parent knows their kid best, but I really didn't appreciate the lack of concern or interest in the students at Swim Kids. And I didn't appreciate the rigidity of their payment structure and they lacked flexibility with scheduling. read more

We love SwimKids! We've had our four-year old swimming with them for almost 2 years. We felt the cost of the lesson was well worth our money considering they are helping her learn a life skill. We have been shocked at how fast she has progressed. She's a little fish in the water now and is super confident swimming around and age four. If there has ever been anything I have wanted the instructor to focus on, I ask and they help teach her. We love our instructor! You do need to be specific about which instructor you want to make sure it works best with your child. I suggest the fast-track and get a feel for lots of different teachers and see which one your child responds to best and try requesting the private ongoing lessons with that instructor. read more

Teachers are excellent, kids progress quickly. They have worked out booking issues we've had in a timely manner.
