(Coming from California, it seems unthinkable to me that the ocean wouldn't be open tot he public. There everything below the tide line is public and must have access without restrictions.) But the lifeguards were worried about people actually swimming the ocean. And they made the park comfortable that people can indeed swim. (That's the story that I've been told.) When you come to the beach, there is usually always a group of swimmers near "Grimaldo's Chair." Grimaldo was the lifeguard that helped work with the park department to make swimming okay. The first time I stumbled onto the beach, someone made sure that I put on a swim cap and googles. Someone offered me a snack coming out. Someone else gave me a tip for getting Glide to deal with the chaffing of the wetsuit. There is usually a variety of friendly people warming up with tea and chatting. Joining the club provides access to open water swim clinics and drill clinics. I've done the open water swim clinic twice. They expect you to already know how to swim and only need to learn about open water skills. I wish I had known that as a new member, you get a swim buoy, cap, and towel because I had already bought all of my gear. CIBBOS has a really cool logo actually. I cherish the stuff that I get from them. I felt a little uncertain about the need for an open water clinic. There is the ocean! Go! (Obviously, know not to fight rip tides.) However, I got a lot of value out of it, which is why I went a second time. The lecture includes all the expected topics like current and tides. There are some drills, e.g. alligator eyes for sighting. The most value that I got out of it was going in a group. Not only, do you get to make friends, but you also get used to swimming in a group. The instructor was really friendly, caring, and supportive. She also addressed all the individual needs of students. People come with a variety of backgrounds, e.g. fear challenges or being really strong in the pool but unfamiliar with the ocean. The races are highly recommendable. Apparently, it's a huge effort to put on a safe swim race. Someone told me that swim races are the most dangerous of races. They had boats and kayaks patrolling. There were swim angels to deal with less emergent issues. I felt super supported during the race. After hearing, the stories from swim angels in how they helped was very inspiring because they got so much joy out of helping people. Each sport has a certain culture around it. Some are more competitive and some are more about sharing the joy of pushing boundaries together. This one is a lot more of the latter.

Thats when I found the Coney Island Brighton Beach Open Water Swimmers or CIBBOWS for short. The swimmers meet on the beach every weekend at Grimaldi's chair. Its basically a lifeguard chair that looks exactly like all the others on the beach. To find the right one, find Volna Cafe on the boardwalk and basically walk straight towards the water and head towards the closest lifeguard chair. There you will see a bunch of people hanging around, putting on wetsuits or just chatting it up. A very friendly group where you can tag along for a swim. They have different distances, so swim at your own risk. If you are a beginner, they have people there to help out. To get better perks, you can join the group as a "member" and enjoy discounted swim races and group parties with fellow swim members. I'm this close to joining as I'm now a lover of swimming. When I asked who he was, he replied "it doesn't matter" instead of properly identifying himself. Later he gave an unclear name (Anton/Anthony) and claimed to be a manager. Instead of apologizing, he spoke in a rude and disrespectful manner. This kind of behavior is unacceptable. People come to the gym to focus and feel comfortable, not to deal with this kind of attitude. I hope management addresses this.

First, she has the same instructor each lesson. He has formed such a bond with her. She trusts him and really has a wonderful smile on her face the whole time (even after coughing a little from the water). Her confidence and skills are growing day by day. The group classes are also stellar. Don't be turned off by the "group" part. The ratio is kept down to 3 to 1 and each kid gets plenty of solo instruction. They are given appropriate breaks and then it back out with an instructor to learn more. Our son has a warm smile on his face the entire time. His skills have grown leaps and bounds. If you're looking for classes for your kids this school is definitely worth taking a look at. At first we thought it was a little expensive (and compared with schools like 'The Connection" it is, but the results are completely worth it. They run a safe, friendly and fun school all while being focused on developing real skills.

At one point they already sent me to collections and I had to pay around $120 just to resolve it. The customer support is awful. There is basically no real support inside the gym, and online support is email-only. They take forever to respond and often just send automated payment links instead of actually helping. The gym itself often smells bad, especially like sweaty socks, and there are barely any employees around who can actually assist members. The biggest issue is how they handle memberships and contracts. They advertise cheap monthly prices, but they do not clearly explain: the 12-month contract commitment, the annual maintenance fee, or the fact that cancelling early requires paying a $62 buyout fee. A lot of younger people and students sign up without fully understanding what they are agreeing to because these important details are buried in fine print and checkbox agreements. Even after I paid the cancellation fee, their system kept asking me to pay again. This has honestly been one of the most frustrating gym membership experiences I've ever had.

Bus. & Prof. Code §17600, requires a "reasonable and accessible" method of cancellation). Restricting cancellation to an app-only option fails this test. In effect, Blink Fitness is blocking clients from both using and cancelling their memberships: which could also be considered a breach of contract. And when I raised this issue publicly, Blink deleted my comment instead of addressing it. That alone shows how they handle negative feedback. Consumers deserve transparency and fair treatment. If Blink can change the rules once, they can do it again - leaving you locked out of services you've paid for. As a former competitive swimmer, it was extremely difficult to do flip turns, not only because they closed half of the pool horizontally due to lifeguard staffing issues, but also because there were multiple people moving in different directions. It was busy when it first opened in the morning but then calm downed a bit and folks were able to do more lap swimming. Water was pretty clean and temperature was good; chlorine levels weren't too bad. Sounds like they close for the fall/winter so I'm hoping to come back before it gets cold.

But we found the classes to be overcrowded (12 students) and the kids were not learning to swim because they just didn't have enough water time or quality instructors. So we searched out a few programs and settled on Freedom. We have for the most part been pleased with the program especially their progress. They have worked on technique throughout the years including attending summer swim clinics. Although there may be one or two questionable instructors at Freedom, they have done a great job bringing in skilled coaches for their learn to swim program. These coaches are fabulous and really seem to know each student. Classes are held up n various locations depending on your level. These classes are held in Brooklyn Poly Prep, Brooklyn Sports club, Staten Island South Shore YMCA, RBYMCA (Raritan Bay NJ) and CLL aquatics Center in NJ. We really like the program and our only issue is their communication. It is consistently poor and we can't figure out why they don't get that part of their business together. For example: 1. They should have someone you can contact by phone at all times 2. Text messages are always incomplete and sends you to your mail for the remainder of the message which is often times a date. 3. The website is poorly constructed 4. The includes antiquated information as far back as 2020 5. The website is difficult to navigate and overloaded for no good reason 6. Clarity of material ordering and timeline for ordering is unclear 7. Overall their communication is really, really poor and needs a great deal of support. Having said all of this, it is a good program but could be a great program with some restructuring of their communication, website and parent outreach. The program is expensive , so you would think that the directors or the coaches would take time to meet with families at various levels at least at the beginning of each season to let them know what kids will be learning, competition information, and what parents can do to support their child. There's just important things missing that the directors need to figure out. Communication is definitely on top of the list!!!!!! I would still recommend the program as a means to getting kids on the road to becoming good swimmers.

From water activities, arts and crafts, play rehearsals, pizza Friday and scheduled trips to cool places! Rosemarie worked with me and made my family feel welcome as new campers. They worked with my daughter who has ADHD and allowed her to have fun in a safe environment and made luge long friends. One daughter was in the theatre and dance program where she shined at the end of the year performance. Overall, BRAVO! To this camp, and I highly recommend it for all families!

You're prices went sky high and yet NOTHING was done that your clients can see. The pool was closed…read moredue to a child did #2, baby pool not clean. Lockers are old, rusty and for the price you charge over 10 pls lockers squeezed together in a small shed we all share smells! Nothing painted, the wooden platform to beach broken, 1/2 in the sand, tilted and NOT LONG ENOUGH. Your guest fees went up and so did the prices and it still looks like a sad broken down place! FIX IT UP FOR THE $$$ U CHARGE.

They were there the next day too so not sure if anyone cleans the private beach at all. The service is ok but it took the guy a while to get to us. The drinks they serve you on the beach are served in what looks like a kids sippy cup. The restaurant experience was nice and we sat on the deck when a thunderstorm came. They had a plastics cover in front so the rain couldn't hit you while eating. Nice touch. I ordered the Mahi reuben and loved it. I have never had a reuben like that and it worked. The chicken sandwich had asian flavors and it was fried chicken. It wasn't my favorite and tasted like a frozen chicken patty. Sweet potato fries that came with it were good though. Another negative was that someone was smoking weed around the area and there was no one policing it. Not a pleasant experience. Overall, the beach club is a 3 star spot. It has its positives and negatives but not sure I would be back.
