Not open, but still TOOK MY MONEY. They sent all the follow-up emails, I got the reminder email the day prior with instructions so of course, I drove my kid out there at 9 am on a Saturday to find a CLOSED BUSINESS. I just have no idea who the fuck thinks this is acceptable - 16-year-old kid DEVASTATED, over $700 I have to try and get back now. Took a number of days to get hold of someone to schedule a driving lesson after having paid it online. Couldn't get hold of someone on the phone after 30+ calls over a period of a week. One of the driving instructors gave me his number when I took my knowledge test in order to book a lesson with him but proceeded to ignore my texts when I tried to schedule a driving lesson. Emails take days to get a response (if you're lucky) and even going in-person to the local testing office didn't help because no-one was present and doors were locked. When I eventually got my driving lesson scheduled, the driving instructor never pitched up. Emailed the driving school for a refund and 5 days later I'm yet to receive a response. There is no way your mailbox is that busy that you cannot respond for days. Clear lack of professionalism. read more

Very dissatisfied. Signed my daughter up for a road test and skills test combo nearly two months ago. Went in for the test and only then found out that she had to pass the written portion (which she did) and we had to come back for the driving portion. We tried calling and e-mailing them to get the driving portion scheduled. After two weeks, they sent what looks like an automated mail saying to be patient and they would call us to schedule the drive. Its been a month now and that's the only communication we've gotten from them. They don't seem to ever pick up the phone and they don't call back or respond to any attempt at communication. At this point, we're just going to go ahead and schedule the drive someplace else. I'm going to try and get a refund for the road test portion of the combo, but not holding my breath on it. Zero customer service. Zero responsiveness. They seem completely uninterested in actually delivering the service that I've paid for. Utterly disappointed. Edit: Just after writing this review, I finally heard back (when I left a message asking for a refund). They said they texted the number on file, but didn't hear back. After checking, we didn't get a text, so not sure what happened. Would have been great if they had followed up. Good thing is that they did give me a refund on the road test without any issue. If I could give negative stars I would. This is a perfect example of a business that takes advantage of a public requirement. Since the DMV doesn't administer driving/written tests any longer, companies like this are happy to pocket your money and provide shitty service because there are few alternatives. To be an adult and have the testing admin be so rude when talking to you is humiliating. I think she thinks all teens are annoying by now in her job, so she has developed the shittiest jaded attitude. I feel sorry for anybody who has to take classes here. Update July 27th: received a very nice, apologetic call from Jessica, who listened to my side of the story and was very kind. I do appreciate the apology, and was relieved to hear that it was NOT company policy to read each student's score out loud to the entire class. Just horrible. Scheduled us for a road test, but their instructor didn't show up because their office didn't tell him about it. We drove 30m out of our way for that time slot in Issaquah and they didn't even apologize or take any responsibility for their screw up. Then, to make it worse, Carrie (apparently the "boss") calls us from a blocked number and leaves a message but never calls. A couple days later after we call again, someone finally gets word to her and she call from another blocked number. Still no apology. No acknowledgement of the mistake, no offer to make it right. Carrie was contentious, disagreeable and arrogant. Unbelievable, especially considering how much money we'd already spent on instruction with this company (which is a whole separate story). I'm glad they're not the only choice in town. My advice to others: don't waste your money if you have any other choice. read more

My teenager took the classes when she was 16, but did not take the written or the drive test until she was 18. We paid for the tests with the classes, so we reached out to Swerve to complete the testing. First, since it had been a couple of years, we could not schedule on line. Second, it took a series of calls each time to try to reach someone. We left 3-4 messages each time with no call back. We finally got through, and were able to schedule the written. After she passed, We then tried again to schedule the drive test, and again left a series of messages with no return call. They have been so hard to get through that my husband and I were both calling on the same day to get through. We ended up making two appts that day, I made mine first and then his. We called and cancelled one, no return call. My daughter wrote an email. Then, we get a call that day that states we were a no show. We told them what was going on, and they said they now see the email, and for customer service would write off the fee (really, for customer service?). We stated we cancelled that one, as we had another one later in the week that worked better. At that point they should have told us they had already cancelled the second appointment. So, on the day before the scheduled test I called (and called and called), finally got through to someone, and they had cancelled the one I made when my husband had called in to schedule. They did not tell him she had one already and were cancelling it to schedule his. So after all of this I asked to speak to a manager. She listened, told me she did not understand why I was upset about the "no show" as I was not charged for it. She also told me she had no record of any of my calls. I felt it was not a useful conversation. (which is why the have some many one stars, I would imagine). Side note: The instructor that administered her drive test (Lincoln) was fantastic. She was super nervous, and he joked with her and put her at ease. When my Son went to Swerve 10 years ago, it was an amazing company I did highly recommend to everyone. The instructors at Swerve (both in the classroom and behind the wheel) are very good and do a fantastic job. I give two stars, however, due to the complete lack of operations expertise across the company as a whole. I'm not sure who their COO is (if they even have one!), but they don't provide any customer service in their physical locations. Instead, you have to either log onto their terrible web portal (even the new one is a disaster), or cal their CSRs via phone. If you try to go the phone route, you will have to leave a voice mail and will NEVER get a callback. So if you ever happen to need to reschedule a lesson for any reason, you are out of luck. What they are good at is pestering you repeatedly for billing info as soon as you sign up online. They called right back for my credit card number! No driving school is perfect. But it is sad how terrible Swerve's customer service is considering how good their instructors are. read more

My daughter took the drive test with the Issaquah Swerve two weeks ago. On the day of drive test, my husband took my daughter and her examiner was Linda. First of all, Linda didn't even ask if my daughter had any questions prior to the drive. Once she got into the car, she was displeased with the seat and asked my daughter to unlock the door after she failed to adjust. She then went to back of the seat and kept pushing the seat. After she failed again, she came into the car and murmured, "I guess I just have to sit like this," and cranked up the AC to the highest level without asking. The car was clean and seat was fine. Very rude and unprofessional. After 12 minutes of driving test, my daughter expected to pass because she felt good about it. But no, she didn't. Linda told her that she didn't do a 360 degree scan during back in the corner. Linda claimed that the worst was that her lack of visibility during the drive. That was a bull. Visibility has been one thing that we have trained her the most. There was NO way that my daughter would fail because of that issue. Linda claimed that she couldn't give her a copy of the score sheet because it is too expensive to have a carbon copy. Really? My husband then talked to Linda because my daughter was very upset. Then Linda brought up that my daughter almost hit a maroon SUV when she was attempting the back in the corner. Linda even demonstrated the whole incident on a white board with magnet toy cars on it. That was why Linda decided to give my daughter a failing score. Back home, without telling my daughter what Linda claimed. We asked her about the maroon SUV. She said that she saw the SUV the whole time and drew a diagram on paper on where her car and the SUV were. As soon as she was done, my husband went, "No way, that's not what Linda showed me on the white board." Apparently Linda's imaginary maroon SUV was coming on a different street and different direction than the real maroon SUV my daughter 360 degree scanned and avoided. What a liar. I echoed another yelper Jay A. that Swerve claimed Jay's daughter almost hit another car during both tests (posted 8/6/2014). The class it self... ok; like any other class. However, customer service... honestly super frustrating. Since week one, we have been trying to schedule drives. We were able to complete 1, and for the second, they required us to go to a different location (Bellevue High School). We showed up 30 mins. early, and stayed 15 mins. passed the drive time, and we saw nobody. We tried calling and emailing the Customer service, but they sent us to voice mail! It took them 2 weeks to get back to us, and reschedule. For our drive 3, out son found he had a hockey game scheduled during one of his drives. He notified them 36 hours in advance, and we still got fined... How is it that they make us waste an hour of our time waiting in Bellevue without any headsup without compensation, and when we give them plenty of time, nothing..... Very disappointed. Good luck scheduling a drive with Swerve. You've signed your teen up for driver's ed, and you'd think there would be available drives to coincide with your teen's current enrollment as a driver's ed student at Swerve. Think again. Swerve seems to way over-enroll students in class time compared to the amount of driving time they have available. A certain amount of drives have to be completed before class is over, and it takes constant logging in to their website checking for available drives to make it happen. I get that the summer is a busy time for Swerve. So hire more driving instructors and create your schedule farther out so people can schedule drives and plan their summer. As far as instruction, the classroom teacher was great. The driving instruction was hit or miss, depending on the instructor. read more

I don't understand why there are bad reviews (mostly old ones) on here about Swerve at all!!! Let me tell you about my recent experience with Swerve in Klahanie. I completed the adult driving course after moving here from abroad and needed to obtain my WA state drivers license. My instructor Buck was patient and extremely positive while reinforcing and correcting my bad driving habits. The drive car was clean and the drive lessons were easy to schedule, he even went out of his way catering to my busy calendar. Thanks to Swerve I passed my WA road test exam with a 92% I highly recommend Swerve Klahanie to new and experienced drivers looking to obtain a WA drivers license and pass the exam. I cannot say enough positive things about my experience and gratefulness I am in the drivers seat again. read more

The worst driving school ever! From the owner himself to some incompetent staff members, this driving school should not be allowed to fool customers into thinking they are dealing with a professional organization. Today, my family and I had a glitch in transportation to get my son to his class. The owner came over and asked my son and I to leave the class and talk outside. We spoke outside and he said that as my son was late more than 10 minutes, he needed to leave and couldn't stay. I explained my situation to him and said that he would not get credit for today. My younger son is also taking classes at a nearby driving school on Mercer Island and was told to do book work and stay after class when he was more than 10 minutes late one day. There are other ways to handle the situation! The owner was so rude. Never enroll your student in this class, as the first day of orientation for families, they packed us all in a room with our student, a few of us had to stand the whole time. Customer service is inefficient and takes a long time to hear back. Getting driving lessons scheduled within the summer time frame is a major challenge, as each lesson is scheduled out in the course of 3 months. read more

Swerve is an AWFUL driving school from in class to behind the wheel! The in class instructor was never on time and never properly reviewed/explained what was on the slide. Also forget scheduling a drive I had a drive scheduled for over a month and a few hours before they cancelled it. The "rule" is to do something once every week and would you like me to observe a drive every week to follow your stupid contiguous rule since you don't have any drives available for 2 months. They also have a stupid rule that you can't schedule 3 days after a drive or observation which doesn't allow you to book a behind the wheel drive. Horrible! They are the most expensive in the area, but they have horrible customer service. You have the classroom portion & also have to schedule "drives", which have to be done online. However their website is from the dinosaur ages and never says any drives are available. Then you call customer services and...... Leave a voice mail???? I received a call back a week later!! They then updated their website and said everything would be fixed that Monday. Monday came and I received another e-mail stating their system wasn't up and running yet.... And another e-mail of the same on Tuesday. Really?? My daughters in her last week of her 6 week class and I've been dealing with trying to schedule her drives since week one. This is absolutely ridiculous. When customer service finally called me back they apologized and admitted they grew too fast and accepted too many students into their program at one time. Sorry that sounds like your issue and not mine, I paid my tuition in full from day one so you are supposed to provide the service now. RIGHT?? So now my daughter is still having to go to this school to finish up her drives but they only have drives available 1-2 months out. So much for getting her drivers ed completed over the summer... I could never recommend Swerve. There are better schools out there. In the orientation meeting, where parents attend, we were told how our children would be trained to be safe drivers and how low the accident rate was for Swerve graduates. Most of the discussion was about the instructor's transplant surgery. My son hit a car in the parking lot while taking his driver's test! He was allowed to continue, for some reason, and just barely passed. Two weeks later, he totaled my car; luckily no one was hurt and only my car was involved. This past summer, he totaled another car. This accident could have happened to anyone, and it was not 100% his fault, and again no one was hurt. However, while I of course don't blame Swerve for these accidents, I feel there is something lacking in the training they provide these teens. My daughter is getting ready to sign up for a driving course, and we won't be going to Swerve. Suggest you also investigate the other options out there. There's a reason for the very low Yelp ratings for this company. read more

Just...no. Young drivers are already feeling nervous enough before their first exam, they don't need to be yelled at by the examiner for things beyond their control. I was rudely admonished for taking a moment to put on my seat belt before demonstrating my brake lights. The reason? It was raining (lightly) outside. I don't control the weather, and as far as I know it's against the law to not be wearing a seat belt. Aren't you supposed to be testing on safety? There also needs to be better communication about how to proceed after the test. I was told many times to take a picture of the URL before my test (it's a paper at the desk) but not what the URL link was for. Because we had a little miscommunication at the beginning regarding vehicle usage, and the instructor was late, all I got was a quick "you passed" and the instructor took off. No receipt, no paperwork, no license, no proof. I had to drive back to the place to even ask her to verify if I passed or not, and how I could get my permanent license. To which I got a fairly unhelpful reply. I just have to say, I was made to feel very jumpy and nervous before my test and it really doesn't make for a good testing experience. Props to the examiner for keeping a pleasant, neutral tone during the test itself, though the terse voice came back the second it was done. The extra star goes to the woman I spoke to on the phone prior to my exam. While it's hell getting through to a live person, she was very kind and helpful. read more

Extremely frustrating. Rude receptionist and rude customer service, bad website. The classroom instructors were good and some of the driving instructors were good. However one of the instructors reduced my daughter to tears and yelled at her. How does it help to have a grown man yell at a teenage girl? She was very frightened. My son is taking Swerve classes this fall at Eastlake High School. So far it has been next to impossible to schedule drives and we have had to go to Mercer Island, Newport High School, and Woodinville for the ones we've been able to schedule. Also, he has to wait several weeks between drives. I have repeatedly emailed Swerve and left phone messages requesting them to make more drives available at Eastlake High School or nearby because I refuse to go to Ballard for a drive lesson. They have ignored my requests and have not even responded to me at all. I'm extremely dissatisfied and will not put another kid in Swerve. If you expect things to go smoothly and get through class and the required drives in a timely manner, do not go to Swerve driving school. read more

We had a mediocre at best experience this summer with Swerve Driving School on Mercer Island. 2 years ago (2016), our older daughter attended Swerve on Mercer Island and had a good experience. The teacher was knowledgeable, well-prepared and engaging. She knew how to work with teenagers. She divided the class into teams to make this learning process fun and a little competitive, she introduced humor and games. So, we signed up for Swerve again this year for our younger daughter, and the experience was completely different. A different location on Mercer Island, different ownership (apparently), and teachers that were not particularly tuned into this age group, and not at all engaging. Considering how expensive this driving school is, and how much time the teens/students need to dedicate to completing the classes/drives, we were very disappointed. We took one make-up class at the Newport HS location, and that was even worse! A hot, stuffy, no windows portable, next to an extremely loud construction site. To top it off, the instructor was locked out of his portable classroom and the students had to wait outside for 30 in while he located a key. The make-up classes are offered by watching a (very dated, circa 2000) dvd/video at one of the classroom locations. Turns out the Newport location we signed up for, did not even have the equipment to play the makeup class dvds. As a result, our daughter had to sit though a class she had already attended, and then the instructor dedicated the last 10 min to reviewing the key points (from 2 hours of material) of the class she was there to make-up. A painful process from beginning to end. My daughter was excited to take driving school classes this summer, now she feels like she wasted half of her summer break. In short, we do not recommend this driving school, certainly not the Mercer Island or Bellevue locations. There must be better options out there. read more

I have never written a review for anything, ever. I had to write about how horrible my experience was with Swerve in Klahanie from start to finish with the skills test for my daughter. First, good luck getting a hold of them. I tried calling half a dozen times to schedule and never was able to reach anyone, regardless of time of day. So I finally drove there. Middle of the day- during open hours- it was locked and empty. Went back another day, and someone was finally there and we scheduled her test. She did fine during her entire drive test until the end when she was backing around a corner. She slightly bumped the curb and the examiner says, "You hit the damn curb!" It was so upsetting to her (she is a mild-tempered and sweet teen). She was told she failed and came back to my car crying. We worked through it and a week later rescheduled (with a different examiner), this time using our own car. On the way, we realized we didn't have an updated insurance card in the vehicle so we had to detour home to get it quickly, making us a few minutes late. When we arrived, she was rudely told she was too late. When I came in and asked why we couldn't still take the test (it only takes 15 minutes and we have a half hour block scheduled), the new examiner said it was because they had to get the car ready. That didn't matter since we were using our own car (which he should have known). Then he said they have a 10 minute late policy. We were there 11 minutes late. No offer for a reschedule. No offer for a refund. So incredibly rude. I will never, ever return to this business. read more

This is not about the quality of instruction, It's the customer service. It is just impossible to schedule the 6 drives your student needs, 3 of which you're supposed to have done before the classroom classes end (DOT requirements). My son initially managed to schedule only 3 drives. For one of them the instructor didn't show up. When trying to (re)schedule the remaining ones there is just no availability in the next 2 months. So now his 3rd drive is scheduled for 7 weeks after his classroom classes end. So much for meeting DOT requirements. As for the remaining 3 drives we still need to schedule: The only available drives are in Balland or Northgate or other remote locations (we're in Sammamish and we signed up for classes at the Eastlake Highschool). How do you call it when you sell something that you don't have? Right, fraud. Next step: complaining with the BBB, We've called 4 or 5 times and every time we get voicemail saying they'll get back to us within 24 hours. Our last call was Friday, it's now Wednesday and we still haven't heard anything. We have 2 more kids that will need driver's ed. Needless to say they won't use Swerve. read more

The class portion is fine for what it is,but the drive sessions are a joke They make it very hard to schedule drives, and think its fine to have you drive 40 miles away to take one. Nothing like driving to Woodenville from Issaquah just to get a drive in. Worse, they've cancelled drives on us an hour before start - and we are out a bunch of cash because we had to reschedule other appointments to accommodate their poor staffing. We used Defensive Driving school in Issaquah for our oldest son and they were great to work with, so avoid these guys like the plague. read more

I would give 0 stars if the website let me. Terrible customer service. Money better spent elsewhere. They were alright on the phone answering questions right before we actually signed up. After that, had to kiss customer service goodbye! Most of the time no one answers the phone and if you leave a message, they don't call back - at least not with one message! I recently called to reschedule a class. What I received was a rude, non responsive "cusotmer service" rep on the other end. Not just that - they do not like rescheduling because they are "all booked up". After much discussion, could not find a moderately convenient time to reschedule. They really give you the run around for that. This is not what you expect - especially for the price you pay. Ultimately, could not reschedule and had to go through a lot of pain to get my child to that class. My advice if you are reading this - GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. read more

Overall I have to agree with the previous reviews. The instructors are great, lots of tips and techniques that where very helpful at the test time. Very patient, punctual, a complete gentleman. The customer service is indeed a disaster after they sign you up. Not much knowledge of how to keep a customer business, zero timely answers, a complete lack of information about their own system. I even tried to go to 2 different locations to schedule a road test, always closed. Called and sent emails, that were answered after 2 days. When I went to take the test they had not even programmed it in the system which added even more stress to the whole moment. I failed. I sent 2 emails and spoke to them to program more private classes to correct the first test faults...well if I hadn't practiced by myself, I would be still waiting for their answer. I took a second test a week after the request email in a different location and passed. I then wrote them another email to disregard the classes request as they were pointless since I already had the license...I received a note of congratulations right away..ha!! read more

This company is the worst ever to do business with. They charge you many hundreds of dollars and give you a limited amount of time for your child to finish all their practice drives which are required by the state in order to get their licsence and if your child doesn't get all the drives in they make you pay the many hundreds over. Well here is the kicker, you can never schedule drives because they are always full and booked up so they basically rip you off of your time and money. We had several drives scheduled which this company cancelled on us because their driver had issues and since then have had nothing but troiuble trying to schedule more drives. The customer service doesn't really help you other than to put it on you to check their website every single day for months on end. They have you over a barrell. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this place. read more

Seeing the school having bad reviews, I have to give it a thumbs up for the school itself. The instructors are very, very good, which is a surprise to me, even though it is the most expensive school in the area. If I have to send another child of mine again, I would not hesitate on Swerve in Klahanie! I had my older daughter signed up in another school on Gilman Boulevard previously, and that was just alright. The classroom and behind the wheel instructors are good with the new teenager drivers. I take one star off the review for the customer service. The first website required Google Chrome installed and even then, it was a disaster! Now they have a new site, with which I believe they can do a much better job with their website and customer service or the lack thereof. I'm having a hard time getting drives for my daughter, but the season parent who had sent their kid before knew about this, and pre-booked drives well ahead before the start of class. My daughter had finished the classroom sessions, and we are still trying to find driving spots for her drives, which we are now looking into after school opens in September. read more

My classroom instructors were awesome and customer service not so much hard to find drives. Hard to get a hold of. When I went to take the driving test Linda was very calm and nice. Even though it was raining outside she stood and gave me instructions on safety before the test. When she got in the vehicle and adjusted her seat she mentioned she needed to back the seat so I had better visibility. She calmly talked to me about what to expect before the test and throughout the test. She mentioned the state required her to not talk to me during the test so I could stay focused on details. After the test she took the time to explain how I could improve as a driver. My mom thanked her for keeping our roads safe and they joked about not having to go to the DOL. read more

I really enjoyed the swerve class itself, I had a fantastic instructor who helped me understand everything that I previously did not have a great understanding of. My drives were all fine and fun, aside from one. This one drive was absolutely terrifying. It was drive four, and my instructor was in my opinion extremely inappropriate in the teaching. He was telling me not to slow down before turns or sharp curves, even if a suggested speed limit was posted. Some people and I know that roads are only meant to be used at 10mph faster than the speed limit/suggested limit, and after that it becomes an extreme risk for something like a crash or a spinout. Another thing that he made me do, was to Jackrabbit out of intersections for the sake of the people behind me. The instructor was not very nice at all, and nothing he had to say was positive. He kind of ruined the experience for me and every drive that I scheduled beyond that was in fear of getting him again. I just really hope I do not get him for the road test. This is another reason why I believe that the instructor who teaches the class should be the one going on drives, because each instructor teaches differently, and sometimes those differences are astonishing. Some swerve instructors teach at 911 driving school, which consists of police officers, at which this instructor taught at. Drive four for a driving school isn't emergency response training. Wow, what a frustrating experience this has been. We chose Swerve based on the convenience of classes and drives being offered within walking distance of our home in Ballard. The tricky part was actually finding drive slots open in our neighborhood and it usually required repeated phone calls and eventually getting to talk to a customer service rep who could sign my son up for drives not yet listed within their student portal. But when he needed to re-take the written knowledge test we were told re-takes are not offered in Ballard and he'd need to go to either Klahanie or Woodinville. The opposite of convenient. And now, in mid-November, we've learned that Swerve will not be scheduling any new driving lessons from their Ballard location for the rest of 2015 which means for my son's last 2 drives we will be driving him to Capitol Hill. We will be taking our business elsewhere for our next driver's ed experience. read more

I currently have TWO kids in this program & I would really think twice about signing them up again. The classroom instruction/instructors are great & provide great thorough instruction, however the customer service & scheduling drives is horrible. It took me well over 2 hours to schedule my kids' drives (once I left a message several times during business hours & coordinated for a call back from the ONE person who responds to phone calls). Once scheduled, I showed up with my two kids for a scheduled 2 hour drive a mere 7 minutes late at the only available location 15 minutes away from my location (as it was the only available time for weeks) and the instructor had already left and marked us as a "no-show". I have left several messages & several emails & now have to wait until "regular business hours (m-f 8-5) when the ONE scheduler will call me back. Things happen. People are sometimes SEVEN minutes late, it is unreasonably mark my kids a "no show" at seven minutes late. The customer service of this company has to improve to not go out of business!!!! read more
