I can't stop thinking about my soft serve from Sweet Jesus. The name definitely drew us in, but the menu was super intriguing. The cotton candy caught my eye but we ultimately decided on the Red Rapture! After you order from the window outside, you make your way indoors for your dessert. The Red Rapture was so delicious! The cream cheese frosting made it so decadent and creamy. We ended up splitting this between two people and asked for a cup to make it a little easier to eat on the go. Our soft serve was beautifully crafted, service was friendly and fast, and the soft serve was so good! It's a shame this is in Canada but it was easy enough to walk to from the Falls. Highly recommend! And you can even shop around for some souvenirs while you wait for your order! It's a win win! read more

I kept reading the hype about Sweet Jesus so on my last visit through Niagara Falls, the hubby and I decided to stop and get a sweet treat. Our consensus was that this place is definitely over-hyped. Neither of us was a fan of the ice cream here, and it's one of our favorite desserts. It has a weird consistency that doesn't even taste all that creamy, and the plain vanilla has zero flavor. The ice cream had a very light and fluffy texture that was unappealing, sort of like Cool Whip versus real whipped cream. I prefer my ice cream very thick and creamy. The flavor comes from the toppings, which were also a little bit boring. There are lots of weird sounding flavor combinations that they call "cone builds" that have sauces and toppings that are over the top, but we opted for a cone with cookie crumbs and cookie dough for me, and Oreo for him. The cookie crumbs were very stale and the cookie dough just tasted like regular old cookie dough topping, nothing special. I also thought the ice cream shop was very dirty. It didn't seem very clean or sanitary and if that sort of thing bothers you'd I'd recommend skipping this place. The toppings were falling all over the counter, which was an absolutely gross mess, and our cones were given to us already dripping and sticky (yuck). The prices are high but then again, that's to be expected since this location is right on the main tourist drag in Niagara Falls. It's right at the end of the street by the falls, so you can walk over and eat your ice cream and look at the water. We paid like $22 CAD for two mediocre ice cream cones. This is a one and done place for me for sure. read more

A Bit of a Letdown This Time Around We've had Sweet Jesus before--mostly at mall locations--and we've usually really enjoyed it. But this time around on Clifton Hill, it just didn't wow us. We went with milkshakes: I got the Birthday Cake, and my wife got the Mango. Hers was okay, but my Birthday Cake shake was super underwhelming. It was way too liquid-y, the cake bits had an odd texture, and the overall flavour was just bland. Normally Sweet Jesus is known for bold, indulgent treats, but this one fell flat. Also the cardboard straws are TERRIBLE. Broke a couple just trying to get them through the plastic lid. The location didn't help either--Clifton Hill has gotten way more crowded than it used to be, and this spot became chaotic pretty fast. Might've just been an off visit, but based on this experience, we'd probably stick to the mall locations next time. read more

Visited Sweet Jesus during an impromptu trip to the falls in early November. The outside window was closed, but as there were no crowds navigating the tight space indoors was not an issue. Other reviews mention the ice cream being simply "ok", but both kids and I agree that the texture and flavor of the chocolate ice cream was delectable! The woman working the counter was friendly and her coworkers were pleasant. I really appreciated that she gave us double cups to contain all of the toppings when the ice cream inevitably began to drip. Definitely a repeat stop if we are in the area again. read more

Let me start by saying I just visited for the second time five years later almost to the day and the prices... HAVE NOT CHANGED! You can see scroll to see my review saying four stars because it is a little pricey at just under $10 and here we are five years later and it's the same price except now that's the norm. This was chocolate soft serve covered in marshmallows, chocolate sauce, walnut and cashew pieces and Oreo cookie crumble. I got the Hella Hazelnut ice cream. It was super delicious. It is a soft serve ice cream and then dipped in pistachio, hazelnut mix. It was not overly sweet. I have to say it was just perfect. I got it on a regular cone. Just the ice cream by itself on a regular cone came to $11.57 after tax. This is quite expensive for just a soft serve ice cream. This location is located in Niagara fall. It was a cold day in Niagara Falls but seeing this little ice cream spot was too good to pass so we gave it a go. First off, the staff were really kind especially with me asking to switch an ingredient as they toppings were pre made. My mom got the rocky road which they placed the marshmallows on one by one. The small size was actually plenty and felt like it was a bigger size than a small. My sister got the twisted soft serve on a cone, I got the one with the hazelnut. The chocolate ice cream was not too sweet which made it very easy to eat. I love that I could get it in a cup so that it was not melting on my hand. My sis got the coke and they had a plastic holder for the coke that would catch any ice cream that melted which I thought was genius as I've never seen one like that before. I really love this place. There isn't much to choose from since I'm dairy free, but still, it is yummy. Also, what's not to love about an ice cream place called Sweet Jesus? I so loved it the first time I went several years ago and was thrilled to see that at least some locations survived the pandemic closures. My only disappointment was that I really love to watch them make the servings. They do it with such artistry. When I asked the cashier where we picked up the ice cream (thinking I would race over and watch the magic happen), he replied with a cynical comment about needing to pay for it first and then I could get my ice cream. Perhaps he doesn't understand the joy of watching artists at work, watching beauty come into being. At any rate, his attitude put a damper on the experience. On vacation in Niagara Falls, we stumbled upon the most picturesque ice cream we'd ever seen. We decided to try it the first night and came back two more times. We tried the birthday cake cone, the red rapture cone, and the crème brûlée pint. The birthday cake was the favorite, it had great texture and the flavors blended well. The red rapture was fairly tart and didn't hit quite as hard as the others. The heart of these cones was the plain vanilla yogurt which was the most delicious vanilla froyo we've ever had. Our last night we got a pint of what they had on hand because we came at the end of the night and the machines were cleaned. The staff graciously checked us out despite being practically closed up. I have heard of the Sweet Jesus location in Toronto but never had the chance to try it out, so I was really excited to see Sweet Jesus open up in the tourist area of Niagara Falls which is closer to me. The ice cream place is actually located outside on the corner of Clifton Hill, but also inside of the Sheraton. This made it a little confusing to find where to order because the ordering location is outside on the side walk. For ice cream, I went with Bounty Killar which made with their dairy-free coconut soft serve and my boyfriend had the Birthday Cake. I was really excited to see a dairy-free option on the menu. After ordering, it was a little bit of bedlam because the pick-up location is down the stairs and inside of the hotel. This part of the ice cream place is squashed in between the hotel gift shop, Starbucks and other hotel amenities which made it quite chaotic and crowded to pick up our ice cream. When trying the ice cream itself, I was pleasantly surprised at the toppings which included chocolate and coconut pieces. The soft serve itself was really well flavored but also not super sweet. My boyfriend's had sprinkles and birthday cake chunks with a candle on top. I was quite glad that the ice cream seemed very frozen and didn't melt all over your hands - you can take your time with eating it. I gave Sweet Jesus four stars because of the atmosphere. It really doesn't seem like a physical restaurant and the pick-up area took a really long time and and felt chaotic. I would've liked to see a dedicated space for a unique ice cream shop like this.
