WARNING - Livid Mom Post
My daughter's brownie troop earned a spa day outing for all the cookies they sold this year.
Lily was SO excited to have a spa day with her friends. She had been asking all day, "How much longer until Sweet & Sassy?" When we got there, they do the hair portion first. All the girls passed the lice check.
They were all put in chairs to have their hair done. Another stylist looked at Lily, and saw some flakes in her hair. Flakes from dry scalp. They came off when you moved the hair.
However, they got me and told me that she had lice. I've dealt with it before, spending hours pulling out nits by scraping them with my fingernails. Dandruff is NOT lice.
I argued with them. They said they couldn't even do her nails. She had to leave the salon - and miss the party with her friends.
One of the other troop moms is a pediatrician. She examined Lily and said it wasn't lice. The manager, Emily, at Sweet & Sassy would not change her mind on what she said. If you are checking for lice, at least know what you are looking for.
We left and went to another salon in the mall. I asked them if they could check her and if she did not have lice, could they do her hair.
Three different cosmetologists at Master Cuts checked her and said it was NOT lice, but dandruff.
I asked Lily if she wanted to stay at Master Cuts and have her done or try to go back to the party to argue again.
She, of course, wanted to go to the party. So we tried again. With the opinion of 3 other cosmetologists and a pediatrician at our disposal, I tried again - showing her the patches of dry scalp and how the flakes were not stuck to the shaft of the hair.
It was no use. Nothing was going to change this young manager's opinion. So, I started to leave with my bawling child - beside myself with anger. Another employee offered a gift certificate for a future visit once she had been "treated."
I explained that I would NEVER step foot in their doors again. That once you break my child's heart and refuse to admit that you were wrong when you are even told by a PEDIATRICIAN, then I am done.
They asked if I wanted the Girl Scout patch. I said, "Does it say 'Sweet & Sassy' on it? Because if so, I don't want it. I will not give you advertising on my daughter's brownie vest."
We are now at Master Cuts having her hair done. They know the difference between dandruff and lice. read more
