Went for annual exam and I had a pap Smear for cervical cancer screening. Two weeks later there are no results and the staff said it takes 2 to 4 weeks for NorthShore Health Lab to process a pap. I was assured that the sample had been received and was pending. Another MA calls to say pap may have to be repeated. 12 hours later result in the chart. read more

Dr. Sameer Shah has really saved my life from being bedridden. Him and his staff at both his office and the ambulatory surgery area are always so friendly, courteous and caring. Dr. Shah also is probably the best doctor I have had to call me and check in and follow up. I am writing a thorough and detailed complaint about the obvious attempt to entrap me by aggravating a volatile situation/correspondence with a lady identifying herself as "Supervisor Ravina". Me and my service dog went to Swedish Covenant hospital 5140 N. California Chicago Illinois 60625 November 5, 2021 at approximately 2:30 p.m. Upon entering the Galter Pavallion entrance I was told that I could not wear the mask I had on (simple designer mask) by a female station receptionist. She also stated that I had to wear a surgical mask. No problem. She gave me a surgical mask and directed me to the registration line. This is when the problem comes about. Standing in line I noticed literally 15 people wearing all kinds of mask, and no staff were saying anything. Furthermore, to add insult to injury the nurses who signed me in were wearing designer masks as well. Appearing to be aware of the "Discrimination" that just took place. Now I feel afflicted and abused. I went back up to the station and pointed out the 15 people and stated my issue. Her response was "I gave them all a mask. I can not make them wear their surgical mask". At this point this lady had an opportunity to correct her wrongs. She had just crapped on me and was trying to tell me that it was raining outside. So I did my due diligence by asking 5 people if they had their own "personal mask on" when they walked in? Each one stated yes. A couple asked me why? etc. But the answers were all the same. Please understand. My attitude and demeanor was mild and business like. When things are overtly flagrant and transparent. It becomes obvious that something is seriously wrong. Anyway, I went back up to the receptionist station and ask the lady for her name. She asked me why? I told her that I was filing a complaint against her for discrimination. She then turned her body away from me. I am assuming that she was attempting to hide her name tag. While we were talking another lady walked up. Aggressively, condescending, and expressing a haughty demeanor. She ask me "What's the problem"? I'm the supervisor. Identifying herself as "Ms. Ravina" I explained the latter narrative and also stated that this lady is refusing to identify herself. She then ask me why I needed her name. I stated that I am filing a complaint for discrimination. Ms. Ravina then told me that this is not discrimination. (Semantics and ambiguity) I did not come up here to define the law. This is not my position. I am pointing out an incident that just occurred. This is when facial expressions and collusions initiated. Ms. Ravina attempted to get me entangled into her web of entrapment. For example, Ms. Ravina stated something about the mask. And when I replied. She stated "huh" ? I repeated myself again, and she stated "huh"? So I pulled my mask down so she could hear me and she stated that I have to keep my mask on. I then walk away without saying anything. While sitting with my service dog waiting for my name to be called. 2 Police officers coming my way approximately 10 feet behind one another. The first officer made a quick impulsive gesture towards me and my dog. And what made me notice is when the second officer did the same thing. I suspect to get a reaction from my dog (Large 2 year old 65 pound black German Shepard well trained). Let me also say that the other staff. Registration, Radiology, etc. were professional, kind, and polite. But once again ...they all were well aware of what was going on. WHY??? I can only imagine. If you have read this far. Lets get to the meat and potatoes. Coming into the entrance at 5140 N. California Chicago Illinois 60625. There are signs upon entry that states that recording, audio, video, is not allowed. An insurrection against the first amendment of the constitution. This intricate in law does have its hedge. Considering the privacy expected and should be enforced in rooms where there are test, undressing, etc. However, the lobby area to the public should be transparent and optic for issues like the ones I encountered. I am writing to express my experience. An experience I choose to fight in words. The purpose is to encourage and motivate others to find a legal source and vehicle to express themselves. Many volatile issues in our country today began with a lie. Escalated to death, jail, etc. Ground zero is acknowledging an inverse bureaucratic administration. People in authority attempting to cover up illegalities by any means necessary. When I type. Someone of political power. A Pillar of the community. Someone righteous and of integrity is watching. Itis my third year with Dr. Aleksandrova and her assistant Inna at this practice. Started as HMO patient, transitioned to PPO patient, now I have more choices for my medical care... but definitely staying with them. Dr. Aleksandrova is carying, prompt, very knowledgable and professional. Her assistant Inna has the best touch for shots, and very welcoming and quick with procedures and paperwork. Another bad experience this month and one the previous month. Because you can't talk or leave a message for a doc, I left a message read by some unknown person. My health plan now charges lots more for monthly prescriptions than for 90 days. I explained that I have an appointment with my Dr. so the meds should be approved -- for 90 days. They're the same ones I've had for years and there's no change in my health. But someone didn't get the message until after my second call -- which was after I'd paid the higher price. This was not the Doc's fault, but the system. The earlier one. My wife had some symptoms that deeply concerned us. Were they life-threatening? If so, the Medical group tells you to go to the Emergency Room. But how do you know? We called a friend who is a physician's assistant. She said it was probably nothing but gave us the same law-savvy advice that a Swedish Cov physician would have given: that it was her opinion, but she hadn't seen the patient and if we were deeply concerned we should go to the emergency room.. Good medical practice is to discourage non-emergency use of emergency facilities. But patients can't diagnose themselves. Some symptoms, like my wife's, could have been life-threatening but weren't. Other symptoms, like the early signs of a stroke, do not seem "life threatening" but are. Patients should have someone to call to get a professional opinion without waiting for hours in an emergency room. This medical group was formed, as they all are, in the interest of "efficiency," i. e. saving money. But the cost is to patient services and patient care. They want to avoid paying an off duty physician to take occasional calls when their office is closed. So this medical group leaves people to diagnose themselves. When they're open, of course, we can leave a message for our physician. When will he get it? We don't know. . So we're caught between wasting hours in Emergency waiting room "just to be safe" and not doing so, which can be taking a chance.on our life. OR maybe we're lucky enough to have a good friend in the field, whose life we can interrupt to save SCMG the bother. Didn't they save enough by firing all those medical secretaries to cover this cost? I went over all of this with a nice lady who called to apologize for the last screw up. She said she'd pass the word up the line, and that was the last I heard. read more

As another poster wrote, the care itself has been fine. But you may never actually get the care you need. Two things to point out: 1. You can never, ever call your doctor's office directly. So, for example, you leave your child's dr. visit, and they sent you with some unclear instructions on where to go, you'd better get ready to go through hell. The only number they will ever give you is the central medical group number that is automated, and you will wait, sometimes up to 30 minutes, to get to live person - who is just trained to make appts in a system. They will not give you your doctor's office number. They will offer to leave a message and then they will call you back, WHO KNOWS WHEN because they do not respect the fact that you too are a busy professional. You could drive back to the dr. office and ask in person, but they will NEVER give you the number to call. Imagine how this would feel as you need information for your child's heart EKG. Don't put yourself through this. Go elsewhere. Also, SC reached out to me about this, they know about, other people have reviewed about this very topic - they have no plans to change it. 2. I talked with my PCP about seeing a counselor as I worked through some issues. She gave me a list of Swedish practitioners. I called one and was told they were currently full. I said okay, please put me on the waiting list. 6 months passed and I called back... they claimed I was still on the waiting list but I don't believe it. I said okay, thank you, please keep me on the list and let me know when a spot opens up. Guess what? That was over 2 years ago and they never, ever contacted me. I found other support systems but this is not funny. What about other people that have more acute issues? Swedish Covenant does not take mental health seriously at all. 3. Their portal system was totally family-unfriendly. Of course a parent has to manage the care for their toddler, but not in one linked-account space, no, you'd better have several email accounts and several passwords. They just got a new system, we will see if it is any better. I was at UIC previously and it was much better. read more

(Also, never received a call from my Doctor about the outcome of the Colonoscopy, 4 months now as well) their billing is a disaster, they code it wrongly to the insurance company for a colonscopy that was covered and told by their own accounting it will be covered not to worry, then a month later I lost my job due to Coronavirus, Travel Manager as you can imagine and still fighting with them for hundreds of dollars, they said will submit it to my old job insurance, then same bills came back, I called the insurance company to discover they had not, I spent an hour on the phone with them and got them to pay this USELESS Medical Group, now they keep on sending me new surprise billing like $30 for a call, etc....THEY ARE A JOKE read more

Takes weeks to get a prescription filled. They joined with Northshore without bringing on additional resources to assist with the influx. Money over patients as usual. I'd leave and find another primary care if it was possible to get ahold of someone to send my records. read more

Update: I've updated my review to a three because the practice followed up with me and looked into this issue which I do appreciate. It sounds like it is more of a training issue vs. a policy issue. I called this practice because I had a terrible lung infection and needed a primary care doc. They told me that because I was pregnant, they couldn't see me. Of course my midwife can't treat me for a lung infection because that is not their area of expertise. When I pointed this out she just said nothing. Literally they refused to treat me when I was most vulnerable. Either she was misinformed or their policies are absolutely terrible but I'll never call them again. read more

The administrative staff is not only unhelpful, they are downright hostile and rude. I moved out of the city and tried to set up an appointment to establish a new primary care physician in my new home. In the interim, my prescription ran out and my Swedish Covenant doctor's office would not renew my prescription until I set up an appointment to see my old doctor. When I explained that i had moved and had an appointment to see a new doctor, they did not care and refused to renew my prescription without coming in for an in person check-up. read more

Thank you SCMG, for sending me to collections for a $75 bill, during a pandemic, after one missed call, and a bill that was not delivered by USPS. I wish I could reflect the care I received from a few excellent providers, but unfortunately I have had my experience tarnished by repeatedly horrible experiences with a billing department that resorts to sending bills to collections immediately. And then reporting them! My credit score is lower because SCMG couldn't be bothered to try to get in touch with me a second time. DURING A PANDEMIC. read more

I was referred to this facility by a co-worker when I was looking for a new doctor, and I really wish I hadn't gone here. In three visits I had more problems than I've had at any other doctors offices combined, including a HIPPA violation, not getting called back when I left messages or sent e-mails, wrong information being put on my medical records (I had to make three separate requests for it to be updated successfully), they lost test results and then were "unable to process" the results of the repeat test, and fraudulent billing. My experience here was absolutely terrible, and I would warn anyone going to this office to check their patient portal and billing/insurance statements for errors. read more

Honestly, the care is fine. No complaints really there. The access to care, however, is deplorable. The only way to access a provider is to call a phone number with a ridiculous phone menu system that never gets you to anyone who can schedule an appointment. Or, you can go through their patient portal, where, to schedule an appointment you have to answer a ridiculous question about the time frame you want an appointment to fall within...its always as soon as possible, or three months from now as the appointments go with them. Once you fill out the appointment request someone leaves you a voicemail to call them back and literally, the three times they have called the phone number was incomprehensible. I'm so over this, I just want to see a doctor....its been six months of trying and phone tag and having to re-schedule appointments. I can't anymore for my own health. I am beyond annoyed with the staff at this location. I have seen Dr. Baryliak a few times, and I really enjoyed her and her services. She was very kind and understanding. HOWEVER, the staff that works the front desk and reception have continuously inconvenienced me and provided terrible customer service. On more than one occasion I have been misled on who to see when Dr. Baryliak is out of office, have not been called back or responded to when asked about a prescription that was needed, and frankly, multiple people have just been downright rude and unhelpful. I really wanted to stay as a patient with Dr. Baryliak but can no longer deal with the staff. I suggest going elsewhere if you are looking for good customer service and support. read more

Other physicians in this medical group may be poor, I can't speak to that, but I can report that my experience with the cardiologist Frederman Concepcion, M.D. has been extremely positive. On my initial visit he spent a significant amount of time with me; I actually had time to ask all my questions, which hardly ever happens anymore. This was after a resident at Swedish had already gone over my records in great detail, took an EKG, reviewed the basics of how things would proceed and answered my questions. Dr. Concepcion seems passionate about his specialty, is clearly knowledgeable, qualified, and capable, and expressed a genuine interest in my unique situation and helping me to understand it all better. He was proactive, ordered or placed referrals for additional tests and explained everything in detail. With all the talk about doctors not spending any time with their patients, not listening, or answering patient questions, it was refreshing to have such a positive visit. My opinion of the rest of the staff is less clear. Everyone definitely seems to enjoy their work, it appeared to be an upbeat and happy workplace. No one was mean, crabby, rushed, or short with me. The front desk staff was friendly, maybe too friendly with some, empathetic, thoughtful and caring in scheduling. I've only been there twice now, so I will reserve final judgement, but I ended up waiting in line to check-in for a long time behind what turned out to be a pharmaceutical rep. That should never happen. All the nurses were efficient and friendly. read more

If I could give no stars I would. I continue to receive bills for services from 6-9 months ago which have been paid directly by my insurance company. Their billing department doesn't answer the phone and refuses to return messages. I had to call the general number and beg for a different contact number because the line was busy for 3 days in a row. When I finally got someone on the phone, she was rude and told me I didn't know what I was talking about (while not bothering to even pull up my account). I was told to have my insurance call them. So I did. They apologized to my insurance company and confirmed everything was resolved. (2 months ago) I STILL continue to receive bills from them for the very same services. Avoid this group like the plague. The lack of professionalism I've experienced over what amounts to 175 dollars is mindboggling. I've reported them once again to my insurance company and I hope they are removed as a provider. read more

0 stars would be preferable. I've seen doctors here for as long as I can remember. The earliest appointment I could get was in 4 weeks. I took off work 2 hours early to get to my appointment on time. I realized they moved to the new building so I was 4 minutes late. I got there and Dr. Matar refused to see me because I didn't show up 30 minutes early to fill out paperwork. They sent me reminder emails and I just realized that in the fine print it says to come 20 minutes early. I will not be returning here due to their snobby, suck up attitudes, and for a doctor refusing a patient under these ridiculous circumstances. If they want you to come 20 minutes early, they should set your appointment time to the time they want you there, or at least put a proper reminder in the confirmation email, fine print is not acceptable. I had a great experience here. I arrived about 15 minutes before my appointment prepared to fill out a bunch of paperwork. To my surprise I only had to sign one form verifying my insurance and address were the same. Swedish Covenant appears to be extremely updated with the use of an online portal having access to your previous tests and info. Dr. Kulik Carlos was warm, compassionate and thorough. She listened to my concerns and was able to pull up my labs and X-rays on the computer as we were talking. All of the staff were kind and helpful. I left the office within 45 minutes of my appointment time, which included getting blood work done. I completely recommend this location. I also had an equally pleasant experience with Swedish covenants urgent care in north center. read more

If you're looking for a new OB/GYN, look elsewhere. I've been going to Dr. Wos in this office since 2006. It's always been difficult to get an appointment, but 2013 has been a nightmare. In early January, I tried to make an appointment for February, since I was due for my yearly exam, and also needed a prescription for the new year. I was told that February was all booked up, and to call back in two weeks, which is when they expected her March calendar to be opened up. I called back, two weeks to the day, and was told that March had booked up quickly, and that I'd have to make an appointment in April. Okaaay...but I'm out of refills for my prescription. "No problem" the woman on the phone says. Just have your pharmacy fax in a request when you need your re-fill, and we'll gladly extend it. Also, she took my name and phone number, and promised a phone call when April opened up so that I could make an appointment. Fantastic! When I needed my prescription filled at the end of January, all goes with out a hitch. Weeks go by, and I don't receive a phone call that April has opened up. One Saturday, I receive a voicemail. "Please call us to reschedule your appointment you missed on Wednesday." Um...what? I never made an appointment in February. In fact, I have yet to make an appointment at all. I call back the next week to not only clear up the issue of the phantom missed appointment, but also to see if April is open. It is not. Later that week, I need to get a re-fill again on my prescription. I go through the same process as before. Along with a second, separate prescription to get filled, I ask my pharmacy to fax in the request. I get a phone call later that day, Thursday. My request has been denied because I need to make an appointment. This is pretty much where I lost my mind. I call in and talk to anther very pleasant woman on the phone. I tell her the whole story of what is going on, and she is very apologetic. April has just opened up, so we not only make my appointment, but she tells me to call my pharmacy and have them re-fax in the request immediately, and she would let the nurse on duty know to look for it and respond ASAP. So now, I believe this is all taken care of. Friday early afternoon I receive a text that my prescriptions have been filled, so I stop in after work to pick them up. When I get to the desk, there is only one filled. Not two. They never heard back from the office approving my second request. While I'm paying for my one prescription (there's a line forming behind me, and I don't want to hold everyone up), the pharmacist calls the Doctor's office to see if she can get approval. The answering service answers, and refuses to page the doctor because it is not an emergency. So, now it's Friday afternoon, the office isn't open until Monday, and I need to start taking my prescription on Sunday. At this point, I am so livid, I'm practically seeing red. I call in Monday at 11:00am. The woman who answers the phone confirms that they sent I the approval that morning at 9:00am, and that the fax was marked as "received." They should have it, she says. I call the pharmacy. Pharmacist on duty, who has been there all day, hasn't received anything, but offers to call the doctor to follow up, and will call me right back. After an hour, I receive a call back from the pharmacy - even though the office says they sent the documentation, the pharmacy never received it, however she has verbal confirmation to fill the prescription and add a refill. So, after a number of hours, and numerous phone calls, I finally have what I need. Now, I'll be canceling my appointment and going somewhere else. Obviously, they don't need my business because they are too busy and have too many patients to give every even just adequate service. read more

Great experience with my OB GYN Dr. Hassan I had to wait for a long time but it was worth the wait time, she takes her time to explain every concern you may have. The only problem was the front desk the registration girl with the blond hair and glasses was too busy talking on her personal call and eating in the front desk gross. Then comes another person name Jay to sit down to talk with the registration girl name Ely about their personal life. I really didn't need to hear their conversation and in top of that they forgot to check in a personal that came in before me and she was waiting long then me. Do they actually get pay to sit down in the front desk to eat and talk about their personal life? This place will be better organized if this people actually work or if it's under a better supervision. For this I will give them a bad review. read more

My family has been going to this office for years. Recently, it's become a nightmare to make appointments. I am under the assumption that the front staff no longer make the appointments, if you need a appointment for the pediatrician medical group, you get a call back from a triage nurse and set up with a appointment days later. My wife called about a painful UTI today, and has to wait until tomorrow afternoon, just to urinate in a cup and be given a antibiotic. They no longer try to squeeze in patients, or have her come in, drop off a urine sample and wait for them to call with results. The experiences with front staff tend to be horrible. They browbeat you with bringing your ID and insurance, but generally never check, they also tell you to show up 20 minutes early, just to sign one sheet of paper that nothing has changed on. Getting an appointment and having them not cancel seems really hard! I had an appointment scheduled with Dr. Krishnan for April, which was canceled due to COVID. I completely understand that but the confusion around what to do with me since I did need to see a doctor but wasn't an established patient because that's what my appointment was for was amazing. I was finally scheduled for a telehealth visit then they called to reschedule that because I wasn't an established patient (which was discussed over and over when I made the appt) then I was finally scheduled with whomever was available the next week. He was very nice but I had to call the office back multiple times because my meds were called in incorrectly. A few weeks ago, I called to get an appointment with Dr. Krishnan who I was originally supposed to see. I was scheduled for 3 weeks out which was great until they called me the day of to say the doctor was unavailable and I need to call back to reschedule. When I called back I was told the doctor "recently decided she's not taking new patients anymore" and that's why my appointment was canceled but they can get me in with someone else at the end of November. They've scheduled me with someone at a different, less convenient office for next week. I was told I can see this doctor now then switch to a doctor at my preferred location. I don't want to keep switching doctors. That's not good patient care. Deciding not to take new patients and cancelling everyone currently on the schedule as a new patient is not good patient care or customer service! Especially when the appt is canceled the day it is supposed to happen. read more

I am beyond annoyed with the staff in Dr. Barilyak's office. I started coming to her about five years ago, she is a great Dr and explains things great. However, her staff- Holy cow. They all need to be retrained and explain the purpose of having them as customer service/ support. I hate to say that they are useless- but truthfully they are. Before her staff was amazing and we truly enjoyed coming here, now, I am looking into changing my PCP just because of them. Also I know at least six people that come here (some referred by us) we've ALL have agreed how terrible her staff is..
