Timely check in for my neurosurgery. The staff is all very caring. The hospital seems to be undergoing renovations " downstairs" in the surgery waiting area for patients only. The rest of the hospital was very clean and well maintained. A side note, the check in clerk at the Inn was warning the person ahead of me to park on the Street, warning break ins at the parking garage. ( we had no problem ) The food is beyond horrible.. I'd rather starve than have anything there again. read more

The hospital is clean, the staff courteous and Dr Eastman's assistant, AMY, a treasure. Dr Eastman took his time and demonstrated patience, kindness and utmost professionalism with me. I know I have found the right doctor. Ms ARGUELLES is empathetic, intuitive and professional. She is genuine and very easy to talk to; compassionate and very knowledgeable. For the past two months I have been working on getting spinal surgery with Dr. Chapman Swedish. It has been the best experience of any medical procedure I have ever had. Dr. Chapman really cared about me and what my expected outcome would be. The day of surgery I was met some of the most wonderful nurses anesthesiologist etc. When in the recovery room the nurse was a wonderful southern grandmother who was nothing but pleasant but I was coming out from anesthesia. The overnight nurse was friendly appropriate and very cheerful which helped the recovery immensely. The next morningI was greeted by the doctor. Explain to me what I needed to do in order to have the best recovery possible. I was then discharged. The room was a comfortable size room, clean, and fully self-contained. The food was acceptable with some entrées being better than others but that's not a big deal. read more

Infuriating service. Tried to call office to let them know I was lost in my Uber on the way to appointment to see Dr. Grayson. When I got there (9 minutes late), they called the doctor and the doctor said she didn't want to see me. It's so difficult to get time off of work and I paid a lot of money to get here because I need care. Not worth your time if you want good, reliable service that treats you like a human being. read more

***Medical Dream Team*** The staff are great. They're friendly, nice, warm and always smiley. Dr. Geidt is my daughter's pediatrition and my wife sees her too. Dr.Geidt watch over the whole pregnancy 2yrs ago and took really good care of my wife. She was even there to oversee my wife labor and when she had complications...she was in the operating room when my wife had a c-section. My daughter's head was too big so we had to get a c-section. She's always in a good mood and super positive, always answering my question with language I could understand. She still takes awesome care of my daughter! Our last visit, this place had to give my daughter a flu shot. My daughter first saw my wife get the shot. She then had to get hers, so she kept saying ouch even though the needle haven't touch her skin yet..she is so funny and cute. Anyways, I made it up to her by having a quality day with her and buying her icecream and toys. I also switch over to see Dr. Chan. He was the first who recommend me to lose weight and did test on my cholesterol a year ago. He help me on the road of a healthier lifestyle and always giving me such great advice about everything. I am so happy he is my doctor! This place is also so high tech and I could ask questions online to Dr. Chan. If you need a CT scan, you just go to the lower building and all the specialist is in the same building. When you check in, the wait is never too long with pretty awesome nurses who are always so friendly. They really do care about your well being and your health. Many other doctors who work here and I believe they are all awesome but my personal experiences with these two doctors are amazing! read more

Cafeteria Review: I work across the way and often eat at the cafeteria as well as hit up the Starbucks inside occasionally. It's good, especially for a hospital cafeteria, good quality all natural beef burgers as well as turkey, chicken, grilled cheese and some others I'm forgetting with fries from the grill. Salad station, hot food choices, deli sandwich station, Pizza and tacos too I think. Pinks donuts and cookies. Normal saran-wrapped desserts in the case too. Overall, decent prices, good food. read more

This emergency room is the worst. They are rude, condescending and have no ability to show compassion. I have Taken family members her several times and always the same issue. This is the ER we had to go to for heart issues because the cardiologist office is connected to this hospital. Do not go here if you can avoid it. If you work in this ER, find a new line of work because you are terrible at your job. read more

This review is not about the medical care, which is great!! This is about the inn in the hospital. Horrible. No sound proofing, I can almost touch both walls standing in the middle, kids are running around trying to open doors, and the cleaning people force themselves in even if you ask to not be disturbed. The blankets are so worn they hurt your skin as they are now hard and brittle. Bathroom is the size of a cruise ship bathroom. I'm not sure who had this idea but damn... Reusing old hospital rooms does not a hotel make. And be ready to be woken up early. Quiet time ends at 7 am and the cleaning people are incredibly loud with their laughing and carrying on. Front desk guy leaves so nobody to complain to. Fun times! Find a nearby hotel. You will be 10 times more comfortable. This isn't a hotel, you are basically paying to sleep in an empty hospital room with twin beds that almost touch side by side read more

Although a nurse that was supposed to start a new IV for my grandpa kinda of gave a huff and puff because he was in the BR trying to pee after a surgery...that was rude, unprofessional. That just shows she doesn't like her job, people who work in hospitals should have patience, especially for an old man who just had surgery the day before! Any who thats why they get 2 stars. But I have seen better professionalism at the other Swedish location off broadway in the labor and delivery. I know nurses are tired from working with so many sick patients with long hours and so on...but attitudes like that, we shouldn't have to deal with. We are already dealing with a sick family member. So they need to watch their attitude or change careers. BTW parking is expensive under the building, I paid $9 for less than two hours read more

It's great to be alive: Part one: Part one happened at Ballard Swedish's E.R. where Tuesday night, I admitted myself during the worst of several of what I thought were sinus related attacks. This particular attack was a tightness in the chest and dull pain going up into my jaw, cold sweats, nausea, dizziness, and dull pain in both wrists. To make matters worse, I couldn't feel my own pulse. That was no sinus issue, that was a mild heart attack, my first and hopefully only one. Ballard Swedish' s ER, Dr. Michael Brown and team, went into full alert and immediately gave me Nitroglycerin (lowers blood pressure) and morphine (spirit world drug) and got me stabilized in record time and certainly within the 3 to 6 hour window before any real damage to the heart could occur. They were awesome. Part two: I along with Susan were then transported to Swedish's Cherry Hill campus (her first ride in an ambulance) to their Cath Lab (the burn center of cardiology labs). Heart specialist, Dr Milton English and team, inserted a Stent (expands the artery) via the femoral artery, into the lower artery of my heart where he found a blockage. He cleared that blockage and thus the fixed the problem (see before and after pictures under business info.). I was awake for this procedure. Not including prepping, this took him 12 minutes. That is absolutely amazing! Then he checked the other heart chambers and arteries for any other blockage and sent me off to my assigned intensive care room where I was constantly monitored. The elapsed time from admission to Ballard Swedish's ER to completion of stent procedure at Swedish Cherry hill was 2 hours. Again, amazing! My wife jokes about how at one point I was half naked and was being attended to by 4 good looking nurses. I of course told her that it totally escaped my notice. My wonderful wife Susan was with me from the beginning to the end of a hospital stay that lasted from Tuesday night to Friday morning . What a woman! I'm now back home, on a strict diet and taking 6 medications. I don't care about the inconvenience though, I'm still alive. I believe that the care I received at both Ballard Swedish and Swedish Cherry Hill was unprecedented. I felt like I got the best of the best in treatment and aftercare and the fact that I'm writing this proves it. And so, I thank God, I thank Swedish, I thank my lovely wife, and it's great to be alive! read more

Our family has been to CH twice within the past 2 years and hands down, the surgeons here at Swedish are the best in this area. I had a cyst lodged to my brain stem causing me massive pain to my jaw and Dr. Marc Mayberg in neuro took care of it with the least amount of side effects. I recovered from brain surgery in 4 weeks and was back at work. Dad just recently went in for a heart procedure and Dr. Howard Lewis also did a fantastic job giving my dad a 2nd chance and keeping him alive. For my procedure I went around to quite a few neuro doctor at UW, Harborview and none of them compared to Dr. Mayberg at Swedish, it wasn't even a question. The recovery units here are all single room beds with it's own bathroom. The nurses are also very wonderful. Unfortunately they don't get appreciated because you usually feel like shit when you're in there. read more

Had back surgery here - Dr. David Hanscom did a fantastic job on my spine! Unfortunately, after I woke up, I tried to lift a cup with an inch of water in it because I was thirsty. Dropped the cup & screamed in pain - my right shoulder felt like it had been sliced open. Couldn't lift anything with that arm, couldn't pull the covers on or off myself, pretty much couldn't do anything without causing unbelievable pain, even with the pain meds I was on for my back. I was in the hospital for more than 10 days. Complained daily about the problem to my doctors & nurses - no one would do anything. The best I got was my surgeon making a guess that something in my shoulder had been strained in positioning me in the OR for my back surgery. Oh - and my rehab physical therapists modified my exercises since I couldn't use my right arm. (Fortunately, I use my left arm for the cane I walk with.) Saw my PCP after discharge - got x-rays, ultrasound, MRI. One of my rt. rotator cuff tendons was fully torn through, another partially torn through. I had to have surgery to repair the damage & was off work an extra 4 weeks. I complained to Swedish & received no responses. I turned the matter over to my insurance and figured that if they wanted to sue Swedish, I'd happily support their actions. read more

I am giving one star because you cannot give zero. My experience is with Dr. Hanscom and the Neurological department at Cherry Hill. I had a fusion in 2010, so coming back with real pain to see what is going on with my spine. I was completely shocked to have been basically dismissed by Dr Hanscom. He walked in with a "transcriber" who I suppose wrote everything that was said. He seemed to not have even looked at my MRI! He promptly told me that the spine feels no pain. Pushed on my arms and checked strength. I asked him if the nerve bundles between the vertebrae could be causing my pain, arm numbness and tingling, to which he just replied "no". He then left the room with his little guy behind him. He returned 15 minutes later with the physician assistant (who seemed very nice) and told me that my pain was all mental!!! He handed me a book he wrote about creating ew paths In your brain for your Pain!! I was so shocked that he wasn't going to help me and this appointment was instead a platform for tooting his horn and selling his book, I left in tears!! Worse, he posted a complete different scenario to my primary on mychart that I was excited to participate in his mental bologna. He was so full of himself and so uncaring, he didn't even notice I was in tears because of pain and I haven't slept through the night in months. A book? Don't see Dr. Hanscom if you have real pain. Go somewhere else. What a let down read more

I was airlifted from another hospital and driven by ambulance to Swedish hospital, Cherry Hill campus. The doctors, of course, were excellent. Drs. Berney, Jung, Parker and Pappas made me a part of the team. They spoke to me on my level. I can't say enough about the exceptional quality of the nursing staff. My call light would only be on a moment. They went above and beyond the call of duty to explain what was happening. They walked me in the hall in both ICU and floor 4, telemetry. They were 100% in their commitment to excellence in nursing care. If you have to be hospitalized, Swedish is the place to go. To top it off, the food was delicious and delivered with a smile. Other departments: radiology, lab, echo all were committed to excellence. read more

One month ago today, this hospital and its staff saved my life and I cannot be more happy to type this review. I came in for an Aortic Dissection diagnosed at Swedish ER in Redmond. This is something that many people don't survive 5 min much less the trip in as I keep getting told. When I showed up at Cherry Hill, there was a wall of people waiting to get me into the OR and attempt to save my life. Lets skip past the long (successful) surgery as I don't remember any of that. Post surgery, I was explained in detail on how everything went and what will be coming next for recovery. I was visited by every surgeon that was in the surgery room the next day. The bedside manner was so relaxed of these skilled professionals as every question was answered and time that was taken to explain the details to someone that does not know medical terms was so different that any other hospital I have ever been to. Every single day, one of the surgeons or Doctors made a visit to see how I was doing and keep my mind at ease that all was going well. Sometimes late at night but they always checked in. The Cardiac team is 2nd to none and I want to call out my surgeon Dr Patrick Ryan and Dr Peter Casterella along with the PAs and all those 4th floor nurses and staff that took care of me for the 5 days I was there. Seems odd to review a hospital but my experience here was interesting. I'd had pain in my right wrist since November and needed to figure out what was going on, so my doctor sent me here to get an x-ray. I parked at the attached garage (which was kind of expensive; I hate when hospitals charge for parking) and found my way to the lobby pretty easily. I got in line and was handed a buzzer, kind of like what you get at restaurants. I thought this was a great concept -- I took a seat and was waiting comfortably until processing was ready. More facilities should take advantage of this idea. Now the bad part. I realized I had forgotten my referral, which apparently is a VERY bad idea here. I called my doctor's office and had them fax it over to radiology, then waited. And waited. And waited. Front desk called radiology who said they had got nothing. I called my doctor's office and had them do it again, this time to the front desk. And waited. Finally, one gal at the reception desk decided to call down to a different area in radiology. Voila, there it was. It had been an hour by this time. Seriously? This was pretty bad communication and made me needlessly waste my time. Clearly I should've brought my referral but clearly, in a time when we have so much technology, communication between and inside facilities should just never be an issue. Well, that finally got worked out and I was sent to radiology. Got my wrist x-ray in fifteen minutes and the results were with my doctor in two days. Swedish has a lot of good points -- the waiting area had plenty of seating, I liked the buzzer system, and the hospital was friendlier and more comfortable than many I've been to. They just need to iron out some things. read more

The scathing Seattle Times expose in 2017 reportedly shook up a dangerous culture, led to the departure of bad surgeons, and the arrival of new leadership. Apparently the staff and infrastructure for the Neurosurgical ICU have not come along yet. While few clinical or hospital experiences are positive, this one was by far the worst. In fact, in looking for something good to say, the best I can do is that the Saturday night security guard was a lovely and helpful person. The nurses in the ICU ranged from robotic to condescending / bullying. I was there to support a neighbor and her family. I was also there when they said it was time to think about removing life support. I was still there when they jumped on the family for trying to have more people than three in the ICU room (they said this was not safe for the patient which made no sense because they had also just said there was no hope for the patient!). Rules and robots make up this place and the only interaction the family had with an actual doctor that night was on the phone. The waiting room was packed, people flowing into hallways, no where to sit, no coffee, or attempt to make this a better experience for people experiencing traumatic health news about loved ones. There was nothing comfortable or reassuring about this place. If I am ever in a position to be in this place, I have made it clear to my friends in family to not let it happen - take me elsewhere. I prefer to die surrounded by love, compassion, and understanding. Here there were only rules and robots, the worst being a night nurse who kept trying to get a close family member out of the way because visiting hours were over. He was rude and condescending and I usually see the best in people! Really visiting hours in 2018? Who was she hurting as she tried to say her goodbyes?! So many people told Swedish Cherry Hill they needed to change their ways but it was not till the big expose that any change occurred. After spending a very long night there, I believe this change was just window dressing on top of an uncaring, profit-driven culture where very sick people become numbers and interventions are engaged with little thought about balancing quality versus quantity of life. This is all opinion but for the record, I work in health care, I understand best practices, and I know that just because we can do something to intervene that does not mean we should. I hope Swedish Cherry Hill can learn, care, and do better. In the meantime, if I am unlucky enough to need hospital care, I will be avoiding anything affiliated with Swedish. read more

When I had a medical emergency while driving on I-5, the ambulance staff asked me for a hospital preference. I have usually gone to Valley (in Renton) in the past -- and had earlier that week for the same issue -- but since I've moved to Capitol Hill, Valley is a bit out of the way. I told them that anywhere on the Hill was fine, and they recommended Cherry Hill. What a contrast to my experience at Valley earlier that week! At Valley, I waited in the ER for 3 hours before I was even sent into a room, and then dozed for another 45 minutes in the room before I was seen. At Cherry Hill, I was seen right away, taken care of by friendly, helpful staff, got a CT scan, an exam, and a diagnosis within 45 minutes. Quick and painless as it is possible for an ER visit to be (kidney stones notwithstanding). read more

This is a review mainly for the sleep medicine department. This hospital is confusing to me. The sleep medicine department is located in the "basement" area and they do not make it easy to find. I took the wrong way at 1st and a women who works there made a smart ass comment about it. Look lady, just help me out instead of being a witty smart ass, I don't have time for it. Finally found my destination. Holy Cluster. This place is a damn zoo. Kids running all over, baby crying, women arguing with the new receptionist about scheduling. Wow. The kids running all over is not the staffs fault, it is the parent's fault. You could tell the staff was over it. They called me up...more paper work..that I have already filled out since this was just getting test results. It made no sense. Medical assistant seemed annoyed that I didn't have the exact name of the one medication that I take..you should have that in the system since you know, I just saw you guys a week ago with that information. Sorry you guys didn't do your job. That sucks. I am really glad that I do not need to go back here. Pay for parking, pay in the lobby, still need your ticket to get out. Gah. read more

I regularly receive treatment for Multiple Sclerosis at Swedish, and they give the best customer service of any hospital I've ever been to. I see Dr. James Bowen in the Jefferson building. Always prompt, always courteous, and very professional. This is also a state of the art facility. Search around a little for free parking. If you use the metered parking on the streets which surround the building, be back on time. I got a ticket for three minutes over. read more

So for days now I've been trying to get an answer about Swedish hospitals policy on alternative medical practices such as specifically the ancient medical practice of acupuncture. As all of you know Jing has deep roots in this scientifically proven form of healing as she has been practicing and teaching Chinese Medicine for over 30 years and has based her entire life around it. She has helped many of our society's sick and injured and has passed this gift of healing knowledge on to a new generation of eastern style healers. Yet despite my best efforts I can not get this hospital to allow me to bring in a qualified and accredited acupuncture practitioner to help speed her recovery from the single greatest health challenge of her life. Jing's recent brain stem surgery has left her with several significant neurological disabilities such as severe balance vision and motor skill problems and some other less severe disabilities such as speech, swallowing, touch sensation, tremors, neck, and emotional. I have asked the doctors repeatedly that I be able to bring an acupuncturist in to assist with her healing and recovery yet the hospital will not allow and outside practitioner to work on any of there patients and they only have one acupuncturist on staff and he only works out of there pain clinic as a anesthesiologist assistant and they don't want him working on a person in the neuro recovery unit. I asked why there were no acupuncture qualified physicians on the hospital staff and was told simply that non had applied. WHAT! I call total BS. Most hospitals have embraced the benefits of acupuncture for there clients and often have full time practitioners on staff or at least on call. I believe that Swedish hospitals is bowing to powerful outside influences in there decision making on this. IE: the lawyers and pharmaceutical company's have them by the preverbial shorthairs and that this is a backwards policy. Don't get me wrong for the most part staff at Swedish has done an excellent job with Jing and here recovery but closed minded hospital administrators are hampering the efforts of many of her friends and family to quickly and safely bring her back to the vibrant confident and fit women that she was ten years ago. All that I ask is that Swedish hospitals allow me to provide the care and comfort that she deserves and is entitled to I have been at her side night and day since the surgery almost two weeks ago sleeping in a recliner that was obviously made by the low bidder. I have questioned many decisions made By her doctors and the staff. I have ordered and prepaired her food. I have double checked and questioned her meds. I have massaged her walked her washed and groomed her. I have restrained her and comforted her. I have gone without sleep and creature comforts for her. I have smiled for her and told her that everything's going to be alright when I was terrified I wouldn't have her in the morning. I have been her guard dog and her happy puppy. I have been in disagreement regarding many of the policy's and practices at Swedish however I understand and respect most of them. But this one I don't understand or support. Forward this to your friends and family especially those that have benefitted from acupuncture and other established alternative medical practices. Like on Facebook and write to the Swedish hospital administrators and give them your honest opinion regarding this policy. Had a wonderful experience in the Swedish Cherry Hill ED this morning. My partner was seen by what I could only call the kindest emergency room doc I've ever, ever met. We were in the waiting room for maybe 10 minutes at most, on an IV a few minutes after getting vitals taken, and received a diagnosis in about an hour. The procedures took a while, but the staff was patient and kind and had a wonderful bedside manner. I've never experienced patient care like this anywhere, and I've been to group health, HMC, swedish's first hill location and Virginia mason plenty of times. The RNs were lovely too, and we were both well taken care of. Parking is quite expensive, but I think that's the case with most hospitals (I go to group health and it costs more, so it's not *that* bad). What could have been an extensively painful and lengthy ER visit was completely the opposite. read more

As good as the medical and care staff are, valet parking has at least one horrible staff. Demanded that I move my wheelchair accessible van while i was in the process of wheeling out a wheelchair bound passenger. I explained that I'm about to wheel my passenger out and it'll be quicker to wheel him out that to strap his harness back on and move but he didn't give a shit. I know there are rules but I wasn't blocking the way and my passenger was handicapped. Shouldn't there be a little courtesy and discretion for disabled people? Whatever you do watch out for that guy. Swedish has good things and some bad things from when I was there as a little kid and stay in The hospital the nurses would always get medications wrong a lot of times witch is very bad and dangerous for a big hospital very bad a medication but Swedish is a hospital known to have great Neurologist I had 2 great Neurologist there that were both kind and would give good input like Edna Simon and And Michael Doherty they are both great Neurologist and very helpful and can give great ideas specially Michael Doherty. read more

The staff in the neurology department are extremely professional and yet very kind and friendly. Dr. Cobbs and his physician's assistant Michelle Smith are amazing in their competence and easy manner which instantly placed me and my husband at ease. The entire experience, from the first appointment, to the admitting process, to the ICU and hospital stay, were handled with care and competence. We were kept informed of the care being given and the reason for medication. My husband and I feel grateful and fortunate to have been referred to Swedish for my husband's brain surgery. We also can sing praises for the physical therapists, Jason Chang and Kelli McVein, who challenged my husband and got him walking again in a no time flat. read more

Going to this Campus was amazing. I was there for TCD/TCI, but impressed how the great this place looked and felt. It was top notch. The "practice lab" was like a giant circle with alot of beds, space and equipment that you can use. As a student, I liked how up to date this facility was. I was seeing dr Chapman about my back and the horrified pain I was having. Well I don't drive and live way south of Swedish. The staff was rude. Kept wanting me to come to all these different pre surgery appointments. One at a time. Instead of helping me schedule for all the same day. They refused. I could not sit up due to the pain. Traveling in a care was unbearable. They did not care. Then I was told pick the date that was available or I would have to wait 4 months. I was already depressed due to the pain. The day I would of had surgery the nurses went out on strike so my surgery would not of happened anyways. Glad I switch to tacoma General and dr Harris. I've had my surgery I'm doing great and on the road to recovery. He may of been the top dr in the nation but Swedish is not and I won't be going back there. So do yourself a favor and do not go to Swedish. read more

Was in the ER here. I usually go to Valley but they had a 4 hour wait and Cherry Hill was wide open. I know why now. It was the worst experience I've ever had at any hospital in my life and I've spent a lot of time in them. I passed out, something I've been seeing a neurologist for, and hit my head. Went in to make sure I didn't have a concussion. The ER nurse was cocky and rude. He had the nerve to say I was lying about having small veins so I could avoid getting blood drawn. Then he actually checked them and realized they are very small. No apology, he just went on about how he's great at his job and was able to place an IV in a 3 day old baby with no problems. He missed on me, fished around, and still couldn't find a vein. He then proceeded to tell me that he must just be having a bad day and he'd find someone else to get my IV started. He spent my entire visit bragging about himself about everything, from his job to his marriage of 26 years. On to the actual doctor. I went in specifically to make sure I didn't have a concussion. I explained to her that I'm seeing a specialist for the passing out and she still felt the need to try and diagnose me. Lady, if I've been seeing him for a year, going through various testing, trying different medications, what makes you think you can treat me in a night? I had to tell her flat out that I didn't want a diagnosis for fainting, I wanted to make sure I didn't have a concussion. She sent me in for a CT scan and it came back negative. Great! I can go home now, right? Nope! She gives me a driving and work restriction that I could only get reversed by my neurologist or PCP. Well my PCP transferred to dermatology so I could either wait 2 weeks to get an appointment with a new one and another 2 weeks for him/her to feel comfortable enough to clear me, or wait 3 weeks for the next available appointment with my neurologist. I choose my neurologist. He said there was no reason for her to give me that restriction since only certain things set my condition off, which I told her of. He cleared me within the first 5 minutes of my appointment after making sure nothing else had changed in my history. So things are looking up now. Except, my manager was angry with me that I couldn't come into work for 3 weeks and left her short staffed. I ended up having to quit my job because she wouldn't schedule me for shifts after that. I should've just waited the 4 hours at Valley. Long story short, went to the ER here. Had a horrible nurse, terrible doctor, and lost my job due to an unneeded work restriction. read more

The only thing about good doctors is they either leave to find something better or they are booked out really far in appointments. So don't all of you go signing up to see her just yet! read more

Timely check in. Need be there check in on time. Wait was short. Take you back to pre-op right on time. Be prepared to have your med and dose list with you. Makes check in faster. This review is regarding their sloppy unprofessional emergency room department and specifically the miserable Doctor Hillary P Thomassen who judged my reasons for being there and actually scolded me like a little child for coming in and tried to discourage me from coming to the ER in the future, and then tried to administer medications I had an allergy to AFTER I NOTIFIED THEM OF THE ADVERSE REACTION that they ignored as if I was being a stubborn little kid or something? I am a 33 year old man. I had to actually argue with them to look up an alternative treatment, they were ready to kick me out without treatment. The doctor, in her own words, told me she was too busy to be bothered. So I helped her by finding the treatment guidelines on the ***CDC***website and their response was "Doctor google isn't reliable". Unbelievable! What an unnecessarily traumatic experience and I have a feeling they made it traumatic because she was trying to discourage me from visiting the emergency room again which has to be unethical if not illegal. I was not able to express the concern that a huge air bubble collected in my IV and flowed into my bloodstream and is now causing discomfort in my chest so if I die of an air embolism, this also serves as a notice for my family to sue the hell out of this hospital. The care was OK, but parts of it were surprising. Specifically, Swedish allows high school and college age volunteers to take vital signs, bathe patients, feed them, help them use the toilet, change their hospital gowns, watch them get medical procedures, even discharge them. So the persons you think are your "nurses" could well be 16-to-20-year-olds who've had 20 or so hours of training and no licensing of any kind. They are supervised, however. Is this what you expect when you're paying big bucks for care at a major hospital? This is happening because Swedish takes part in the COPE Health Scholars program. You can look it up online. This program places young volunteers in selected hospitals (after cautioning them they'll see patient nudity and disturbing medical conditions). The program is a way to: 1) get lots of free labor, 2) introduce eager young people to possible medical careers. It's not unusual for hospitals to have volunteers who do simple stuff like restocking supplies. But allowing them to take vital signs and do hands-on intimate patient care? Wow! Sure hope these kids know what they're doing. read more
