It was about 78 degrees outside, felt like 82, and with some cloudiness it was tolerable though still definitely sweaty. I would recommend bringing hiking boots or rain boots as footwear, the grass was very dewy in the morning and our feet were soaked in water after tramping on the grass for about 15 minutes. The energy at the farm was infectious! Coming from inside the loop, we are starved for nature. The welcoming vibe and natural surroundings really made it feel like a wonderful nature getaway only 45 minutes from the bustling city. The workers were smiling and relaxed, and gave us friendly advice. You can bring your own buckets but they also provide a cute cardboard box that can hold 10 lbs of berries, for 3 dollars. I would say the box is quite worth it--it has a little wire hanger on the top so you can carry it with you as you pick and the farm people suggested bringing it back in the future. They said that others have returned with boxes from 2019! We had a bit of confusion initially with the parking. There is no drive way and you drive across grass to park at the small makeshift lot, marked by cones. Pay attention to road signs on Binford road however it is pretty straightforward and should not be a huge issue. The farm is not large and you can walk from the entrance to the last blackberry field in about 15 minutes. It is easy to search the fields for ripe berries. The workers suggested where to find berries as well. As of 6/7, I saw lots of red berries but only 2-3 flowers. Although the farm put up a notice saying they are picked out for tomorrow, I would say you could probably eke out a few more weekends of blackberries, seeing the abundance of red berries. The Berry quality is amazing!! The drupes are huge and juicy. Some berries are quite large. They are extremely sweet and delicious. We initially only planned on picking a pound or two, but picking is so much fun that we ended up with 4 lbs. with entry fee being 3 dollars, basket being 3 dollars, and the fruit being 7 dollars for a lb, I'd say it is a decent deal for a few hours of decompressing in nature plus high quality, juicy fruit that is incredibly fresh and sweet. We observed abundant insect life, including lots of interesting spiders and green heteropterans. I studied entomology in college and it felt like an insect field trip honestly. We will be back for fig and grape season!!! If you're looking for a fun way to get hands on and pull yourself away from your phone this summer, Neal's berry farm is the spot!

I had no idea that this farm existed until recently. The original owner's of Neal's Restaurant in Spring decided to get out of the restaurant business in 2009 and went into the farming business. The purpose of my visit was to pick blackberries. Farm admission is $2 for those 2 years and up. You have to pay $2 for a blackberry/fruit picking box, and you can bring it back the next time you visit. If you plan to cut vegetables and flowers, you'll need to bring your own scissors. Also don't forget to bring mosquito repellant. I barely saw any mosquitos but I got bitten. There were a lot of blackberries to pick, and they tasted good. You can even buy a plant to take home and grow yourself. You can cut as many zinnias that will fit in a solo cup for $3. I got kale, eggplant and zucchini too. I'm sad I missed peach season and fig season is coming up. There's a sink to wash your hand and a port-a-potty. The parking area was over grass, and it was organized. The people I encountered were friendly, but they are strict about closing time. The only reason why I didn't give this place an extra star was b/c there weren't activities like you would find at other farms and a picnic area (I saw tables so maybe it was closed off b/c of the pandemic.) Overall I had a great time and would highly recommend it.

Have you ever been to the mountain top? Have you ever seen…read morethe valley from on high? I have! I've seen the view. I've had the experience and let me tell you, the view from up there... is breath taking! In this case, tongue taking! I came across Old 300 Ranch from none other than Facebook. Facebook? Yeah. I'm shocked too as most of my food leads have come from Yelp, word of mouth or just passing by. This place here snuck up on me from left field. (I know sneaked is preferred but in this case...snuck is what happened.) Let me get right to the point here... FRESH! I'm talking right from the ranch freshness. Perfect sausage and jerky made completely fresh to order. All the ingredients are grown right there on the ranch. Picked and sliced right to your own personal order. Oh and if you have a unique taste or flavor you want to add, just ask. Whew! Where, where where can you find anything as fresh as that without having your own garden and farm in your backyard? What you just read right there... is the mountain top. After I place my order Joey (owner) was happy to prepare my sausages and jerky literally the day prior to my requested time to pick them up. He asked me if I wanted them smoked or if I would smoke them myself. I told him I would smoke them myself.. He replied, "man you're serious, I like a customer that's serious about his food. I will be sure to make em, big and plump for ya!" Well, let me tell you he did not disappoint. They were simply ... remarkable! My order consist of scallion and garlic sausages, jalapeno and cheese sausages with extra jalapenos, and a pound of Cajun Hot Jerky. I smoked those sausages immediate when I returned home from meeting up with Joey and his wife at a halfway mark from the ranch. Let me add that on my drive back, I opened up a pack of the fresh made jerky and almost drove off the road when the flavors set off an explosion of spicy flavors in my mouth. I messaged Joey that he's been holding back from his fellow Americans and their constitutional right to have those babies on the shelves at every jerky spot in the country. He makes the very best jerky I've ever had since I've been on this planet. If you're a jerky eater... it's a MUST try. Best jerky ever! Now back to the sausages. I added no seasonings to either of the sausages I ordered. I added no sauce to them at all. Neither were required. My first bite of those babies launched me into orbit! I must have circled the earth 3 times before landing on earths highest mountain top. From that point I looked down and saw a valley of pre-made sausages, mixed with preservative, fake, supposed to be organic sausages. ALL at that point was beneath me. Everything was moving in slow motion. I could see clearly now. The vale of preservatives was lifted and FRESH became the new factor in sausages. Made with fresh grown spices and herbs made right on that ranch. I didn't even finish my plate before placing another order for another 6 packs of sausages. I even requested some made with fresh habanero peppers which he in-turn created from my inspiration the "Serrabanero" sausage link that he's adding to the menu. I've yet to try them, but I will be sure to post a pic and comment on it once I've cooked them. Before I do, I need to find myself a space suit in preparation. Eat Fresh... And Prosper!

Anyway, back to my visit. A co-worker and I had been out seeing customers in the oilfield and we were hungry. I had an idea. I remembered that Chappell Hill had a dining area. I'd never ate there so a slight detour and we rolled in. I went with my go-to, cheese burger and onion rings. My co- worker went with the baked tater stuffed with chopped beef. The burger was great. Nice greasy style with all the juices flowing and melting cheese. Oh so good. And the onion rings - completely home made. Some of the best I've ever had. The moment I got into parking lot I didn't have good vibes but I went in anyways. It was an order and sit down situation. It's pretty small place so not many people were there. What an idiot to be honest. And mostly Hispanic were working there, I can't imagine how she talks to them or feels about them if she spoke like that to customers! Paying customers!!!! definitely will NOT be going back and not recommending this place. I lost my appetite and didn't want to buy anything else. Why would I want to give my hard earned money to a place like that after how we were treated. The other staff was super nice and helpful and the food was OKAY but that older NON HISPANIC woman ...she honestly needs a reality check.
