Told me two weeks to get my settlement check; two weeks comes and goes. I email today. SHOCKING! The ONLY accountant they have there was on vacation the week she reached out. "But she'll be back next week and you should have your check by Friday." Email today because I did not get the check. "I apologize the accountant for the firm has returned this week and I emailed her this morning to provide your check as soon as possible. I will let you know as soon as it's ready." I have to say there is nothing better than when an organization lives up to the stereotypes of lawyers being slimy and duplicitous. I suspect one of the problems for many firms are they assume their clients are somehow "beneath them." Unfortunately, for many of us, we are recovering from very serious accidents so we may not have the same "fight" in us that we had before our accidents. They are incredible in the beginning; concerned, empathetic, and seemingly concerned for your well-being. Then your name shows up on a dotted line and you get sophomoric email responses when you get upset. The point is you can pick from a dozen "pay when you get paid" law firms. Do NOT waste your time; perhaps they'll give a damn if their bottom line is actually affected!
