The owner of the garage committed gross negligence, directly allowing my beloved Lincoln Town Car to be stolen off his lot while awaiting repairs. It had been gone for over a week before he even noticed (after a follow-up call to ask if the work was done). He revealed he irresponsibly left the car unlocked, the security cameras had been disabled for a week (clearly these aren't regularly checked), and he even said a car had previously been stolen from the garage before in broad daylight. I would expect any responsible business owner to take action, improve security, offer remorse and properly compensate me for my loss. This garage clearly has a serious liability problem on its hands with its negligent operations. I hope the owner will have a change in heart, apologize and take appropriate action to make things right. read more

I hate to be the lone dissenter. I simply had communication issues with the owner. He had my car for considerably longer than he originally indicated and when I picked it up things were still broken that I thought he was fixing. When I asked him about it he said I did not tell him to fix those things. On one hand I'm glad he didn't do a bunch of work that didn't need (actually did need) to be done but on the other I wish he would have communicated what he was doing and gave me the option to decide what needed to be fixed. In the end, I don't feel good about taking my car here again. I left feeling bad and in actuality, I just wanted him to fix my car and/or have a conversation with me about what he found and thought. read more

SVS will perform vehicle service for the bottom dollar, but expect bottom dollar quality. - Improper ATF used (Valvoline Maxlife). Darren claims is compatible, Chrysler documentation shows otherwise. - Fluid change was performed, mixing ATF+4 and improper Maxlife fluid. - Flush was requested via phone, found out when dropping vehicle that only change was possible. - Charged for gasket, but did not install. RTV used in place. - RTV over-applied. RTV was found in ATF pan and filter. - Vehicle now shudders under any load, especially going up hills or entering highway. Torque converter unable to lock. 2008 Jeep Liberty was brought to SVS Auto for a transmission fluid flush, filter, and gasket change scheduled over the phone. Symptom at time of drop-off was slow shifting. Upon arriving, we were informed a flush machine was not available, but that a fluid change would be performed. We assumed SVS knew what type of fluid to use, ATF+4, but later found that they used an incompatible Maxlife fluid. This incompatible fluid was mixed with the remaining fluid in the torque converter. The car began to shudder under any load. Darren agreed to refund $160 of the $220 so we could have it flushed properly. We assumed the gasket and filter would be OK, and were happy to leave the remaining $60 at this time. We had it towed to another shop where it was discovered that no gasket was used, RTV was over-applied and in the pan and filter (pictures attached). SVS and its owner are Unicorns in a world filled with dung beetles: a very qualified, trustworthy, and reasonably priced independent mechanic. I know cars and can do far more repair and maintenance myself than the average person and I trust them wholeheartedly. I personally have had SVS work on a huge range of vehicles: Mazda 6, VW Golf, Jeep TJ, Volvo XC70, Nissan Frontier, and a real rare/weird one - a 4WD VW van with a Subaru motor. Every time they do the work faster than expected, and more often than not well under what I expect to pay. There has never once been any pressure to fix something that isn't needed. They will tell you what needs to be addressed and in what priority. And ladies: my little grey-haired mother, my wife, and my wife's best friend have all used SVS and NEVER have they felt taken advantage of or talked down to. A great mechanic for vw, mini and Subaru. We take all our cars here and have had great experiences.

On 2/29/16 we took our car to Smith Vehicle Center for a Vermont State Inspection. He did not pass the vehicle due to rusted rocker panels. No other repairs were said to be needed at the time. We paid the invoice for the inspection and an oil change ($76.69). SVS stated that they could not repair the rocker panels, so referrals were requested. The repair was completed on Friday 3/18/16 and the bill for $1000 was paid to a different mechanic (SVS was unable to do the repair). It was an expensive repair and difficult decision but the decision to fix the vehicle was based on the fact that this was the only necessary repair to pass inspection. On Monday 3/21/16 (the second trip to SVC for an inspection) it was stated the right front strut needed to be replaced in order to pass inspection. We were not charged for an inspection at this time and no paperwork was given. An appointment was made for Wednesday 3/22 of that week and the estimate was for an additional $200. On Wednesday, when calling to confirm the repair was complete and the car was inspected and ready to be picked up, it was communicated that the car would now also two rear struts repaired as well as exhaust repairs and that the tires were bald. When asked why this wasn't disclosed at the time of your first inspection, the shop owner stated that he hadn't done a complete inspection because he "didn't think we would fix it". He offered to repair the coil spring for parts cost only (no labor this time) and put the tires on. He gave us an estimate of $150 and we made arrangements to bring the car back on Friday of that week. On Friday (our fourth visit) and 3rd request to have the car inspected we finally got our sticker. The bill was $440, rather than $350 (because the used parts were not available used). We are out $440 more than expected based on the first "inspection". We have since gotten estimates for the exhaust ($314.52) and tires ($575.28) As previously stated, our decision o fix this car was based on the misinformation that only the rust needed to be repaired ($1000) to pass inspection. As it stands today the total in addition to the $1000 that it will cost $1329.79 to have a safe and functional car is ($440 for struts, $314.52 for exhaust work and $575.28 for tires). When we paid for the inspection on 2/29/16, SVS should have preformed the inspection and disclosed all of the information to us. Because they did not do this, we are out a significant amount of money. We were willing to spend $1000 to keep this car on the road. At this point, the value of the car is less than the money it is costing us to keep it on the road. If the state requires annual inspections, mechanics must perform them in an ethical way, rather than sending people on a wild goose chase! read more
