This review is for the OBGYN, pediatric, and birthing center only. I've heard horror stories about the ER here from EMTs, but the departments I've had service st have been phenomenial. The birthing center is a hidden gem. We had an amazing stay at the birthing center after an unplanned cesarean. Honestly we wouldn't have our daughter if the staff hadn't interviewed during her birthing process. Our stay was amazing, the staff was so helpful. Both the RNs and lactation consultants were so helpful. Having a preemie baby was hard, but the staff made sure we were prepared to take care of our daughter. I can't tell you just how amazing this whole experience was I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

I will never return to this hospital, it was the worst experience with the non-licensed staff such as the kitchen and food servers. The attitude I received was less than the service you get from miserable employees at the worst fast food restaurants. When you ask for something like a pack mustard or dressing, they literally make it look as if the product was coming right out of the cavity in her body! No greeting, no service that is appealing, nor do they make you feel they they wish your well being. The one young big girl with the bun looked so miserable, SHE acted like the sick patient! I don't want to eat the food in fear she spit in it. If you need to be admitted.....Run from this place unless you want to bring your own food that you can trust to eat. I also was told she wasn't there when I asked for....AND that they didn't know her name, sssuuure, it's a small hospital and I'm sure people know each other well there. read more

Great doctors, great facility, and very professional staff. We had an appointment but still had to wait 45 min to an hour. They can work on their efficiency a bit, but other than that, they seem trustworthy and know what they're doing. read more

RIDICULOUS! I have spent all evening and night with the same nurse and she NEVER said I could not use the restroom in my partners room the whole time until I went to use it this morning and she tells us that bathroom is for the patient ONLY! She was such a jerk about. Put a sign up SUTTER! Or have your staff tell family members they can't use the bathroom to begin with. I could say so much about them taking forever to tend to patients and how we would ask for something and disappear. But I am sure you get my overall feeling. The doctors were awesome and the recovery nurses were great but your floor nurses need to be addressed!!!!!! read more

The Birthing Center is one of the best in the nation and I highly recommend them. If you want to be constantly asked if your a drug addict while you cry in pain this is your place. Even at 43 under a Sutter West doctors care, had a baby there 3 months earlier have 9 years of Sutter West medical records, and that still didn't help the staff treat not me like an addict until my x-Rays came back then it's like I'm so sorry here's some pills have a nice day call your doctor. :( read more

This review is for the ER. I brought my 2 year old son in today for a fever and cough he's had all week. We got there around 11a.m, we were greeted by a lady at the front desk where she told me to fill out a paper and she would call me up. That was quick she took my sons vitals I didn't get her name but she was very nice and helpful. We then were called to the back within 5 minutes, the doctor came in about 5 minutes later checked over baby and wanted to do chest xrays. The nurse asked if we wanted any juice or anything while we wait. 10 minutes after that a guy came and got us and took us to xrays that only took a few moments then after that about 10-15 minute wait and we were cleared to go with a percription for Tylenol and Motrin. I really like this place, it's very clean and roomy, everyone was very nice and its comforting when the doctors take the time to listen to you. Its worth the drive for me. Thanks ER!! read more

By all means the best doctors I've seen, Dr. Katzenmeyer is brilliant and sharp, and the blood work and lab services are immediate and great, and the online system is super awesome too. I've been to the ER here twice, of course it's never a good thing to be in the ER but, the experience was good. The staff is very friendly. I had mastitis and was in a lot of pain. i didn't eat anything all day and the nurse kept checking on me because there was a bit of a wait due to so many ambulances. She gave me some tylenol and grabbed some water and crackers for me. She even grabbed a warm blanket to make me as comfortable as possible while waiting to be seen. I've never experienced that in any other hospital or clinic. It was great. Thank you. I recommend this place :) read more

Pediatrics - 5 stars! My son goes to Dr. Kristin Friend, and we love her! Super nice, helpful, and provides useful guidance for a first time mom! I appreciate that she is not overly pushy and patiently explains everything. Ob/Gyn - 3-4 stars in pregnancy/delivery experience. I really liked my Ob (Dr. Johnson), but there's no guarantee of who will deliver for you when the time comes. Pretty much defaults to midwife care unless you ask for a particular doc for your appointments. Even then, you will likely get a midwife unless you have complications or a scheduled c-section. If you want an epidural or other medication during your birthing experience, you may want to choose another group/hospital. For me, everything happened so fast that an epidural was not an option... However, I later learned from an ob/gyn friend that there are other pain relief options available, but they did not offer any of them!!! Totally upset that they let their belief in drug-free birthing get in the way of full disclosure! That said, I had a very safe delivery, and the postpartum care I received was top-notch. Just be aware the biases of the staff. read more

Worst birthing experience imaginable. Original night staff were helpful, calming, allowing me the environment I needed to birth (minus making me hold off extra for the birthing tub allowing the water to get cool & apparently not putting in my request for an epidural according to the relieving staff who I do not trust at all). The relieving staff that came was rude unprofessional & stressed me out to the point I could not remain any type of calm during birth, they made focusing on breathing was hard & then some. The experience was traumatizing. My autonomy was completely undermined. I was ignored multiple times & at one point during time to push had to yell twice at a very rude nurse to stop pressing on my stomach so she would listen to me & what my body was saying as I was trying to push my baby into the world. I should have never had to yell or even repeat myself but this nurse was an issue. I don't understand why professionals would stress out a woman who's baby is already stressed from the lengths of her contractions & in a posterior position. If it wasn't for my partner & mother I don't know if I could have made it through this nightmare. The same rude nurse often talked about me like I wasn't in the room, joined by the midwife and OBGYN. I had to actively ask about certain inaccessible language they were using, ask why they were doing certain things since they didn't explain much or ask for my consent often enough on majority of things. Even given context clues & my degree I had some struggles, understandably so as I'm not in the medical field/was in labor. I'd like to continue to highlight that specifically very rude nurse who was unfortunately with me the entire time, I should have asked for a different nurse with her behavior/attitude causing me so much duress. In the beginning of her shift, she immediately came in & ignored my concerns attempting to blame me for an issue to the midwife, my advocacy in telling them that was not okay took them both off guard & there was no rapport or trust established with them after that. This nurse argued with both me & the overly eager, unmoving OBGYN. As I stated, they did things without my consent such as putting an electrode in my childs head while in the uterus that the OBGYN ended up RIPPING out, she was incredibly aggressive constantly sticking her hands in my vagina tugging around on my baby after the 1st midwife had said that wasn't a good idea. My baby was stressed (heart rate) & she continued to stress him doing that poking at him, she'd come back into the room sporadically and basically say 'is it c section time yet'. She was also very nonchalant about ripping it out just as she was when she put the vacuum on my babies head (my consent this time) & did so incorrectly so it popped off giving him a laceration. She literally said "oops". They all kept talking about c section repeatedly in a way that was not soothing, the possibility itself is stressful enough. I'm well aware they wanted to ensure the safety of my baby & track his heart knowing he was stressed, but how they went about it was not okay at all. Instead of having people on standby they had majority of the people in the room which was very uncomfortable even after I was out of it a bit due to the epidural only able to focus on baby & my pain. Speaking of epidural, as I said it took them several hours to finally distribute it, I had to ask multiple times. When they finally got to it, it took the anesthesiologist 30 minutes & five attempts to find a spot for my epidural asking if I had scoliosis multiple times (I don't), during which time they forced me to stay still (understandable/necessary) while I was finally dilating. I dilated 5 centimeters in that short amount of time. Right after the epidural the rude nurse said, "if you would've waited you would have went into labor in about 30 minutes". That is unprofessional, as was other behaviors she displayed & not what to say during that severely stressful time. I feel very mistreated by the staff that assisted specifically with my birth. The anesthesiologist did come by & apologize to me the next day (the only WOC, all others in the 2nd shift were WW). I am thankful my baby is here & well with their help after a stressful 26+hr birthing of my first baby but how I was treated, made to feel, my autonomy being ignored goes against all the values I was told Sutter birthing center stood for. I understand certain protocol, precautions & procedures need to be followed, but the ways they did some things were shady, unprofessional, & the communication was severely lacking. I am happy for any/all women who have great experiences here. I surely did not & will make it clear to all who ask. My advice to women birthing here is advocate, assign someone to advocate when you can't, don't let them walk all over you, ask them a lot of questions, & ask for different staff given your personal comfort because birth is about you & your baby, not them. read more

This hospital has a Farmer's Market every single Thursday morning from 10am to 2pm! Yah that is a great thing for the entire hospital staff. Fresh fruit and veggies every single week. The staff here are also pretty awesome and they make you feel at home and welcome with just a smile. I am all over that. I wish it was closer to my house as I love the atmosphere. The cafeteria has great food but their hours are kind of different. They close for 2 hours after breakfast and do not open until 11:30am for lunch. When they close for lunch they are closed for 2 hours before dinner. Overall great hospital with competent staffing. read more

In short: quality of care was really good, billing was a bit sketchy but seems to have worked out, probably. I came in for abdominal pain that I strongly suspected was appendicitis. Wait was fine given my surprisingly tolerable pain level (about 45 minutes). Doctors and nurses were friendly, timely, and communicated well. They did a pelvic exam and some lab tests and were prepping me for surgery within three hours. Surgery went well (laproscopic so it wasn't too invasive) and my pain was well managed once I woke up. I spent the night and nurses were never more than 30 seconds away when I pushed the call button, which was really fantastic. When I showed signs of neurological problems the next day they had me in CT and MRI scanners as fast as they could wheel a gurney. I was fine, but the nurses and doctors were so visibly concerned and acted so quickly, which I really appreciated. Went home that evening. Billing has been a little weird. I got one bill for eight-hundred-odd dollars with no notation of what was billed to my insurance or anything, then two weeks later I got a second bill for less money with notation of what they billed my insurance. I paid that one so lets hope that's that last I hear of it... read more

Yelp, this is a real review of Sutter Davis ER. My son and wife have been patients there and everything I have posted below is based on my experience with their Emergency Room and extremely over-priced billing. Please do not filter out this review. To those considering this place for an emergency I recommend you STAY FAR AWAY FROM HERE. This ER has outrageous billing practices. I went in one night with my son for his constricted breathing and fever episode. Once we got there they gave him some children's Tylenol or equivalent of that. He was already feeling better and I should have just left right then, but we waited to see the doctor. They X-rayed his lungs and the doctor spent all of 5 minutes checking him out. Four hours later we finally went home. I braced for the bill that would arrive in the mail figuring after insurance we might be on the hook for a few hundred dollars or so. Not even close, we received three separate bills and the total charges to Insurance and us combined were over $3,000! Over $3K for a cough and fever? He received Tylenol, an X-ray of his lungs and 5-10 minutes with the doctor, and they billed us and the insurance company for over $3,000. At this point I have been sent to their collection agent Convergent. Convergent said Sutter's policy is to collect full payment or none at all. They refuse to negotiate one penny off these egregious bills. My mistake for going to the ER which my son didn't really need, but my much much larger mistake for taking him to Sutter ER in Davis. I feel taken advantage of by this company, and would caution anyone from doing business with their ER. read more

This is by far the best operated hospital I have visited in the past thirty years. This is evidenced by the total caring team effort of every aspect of the hospital operations I encountered, from the admittance team, to the service team, to the houskeeping team, and yes, the quite excellent quality and preparation of the patients' meals; and I have not even begun to applaud the nursing management and the superb nursing teams who exhibit a total commitment to their profession in the manner in which the patients and visitors are treated. FIVE PLUS STARS!! Sutter Davis is absolutely one hundred percent my recommendation for maternity care + birth and delivery. This was my first pregnancy and first time for everything really, being on my own for the first time, calling for appointments, going to the appointments, doing all of the very different things I had to do to make sure the care of my daughter was being done correctly and that she was growing as she needed to. The staff at Sutter Davis made me feel so comfortable. They always respectfully helped me when I called for questions or to set up for appointments. The nurse, Estella Chavez, was absolutely always on point and so helpful. She always made sure that I was comfortable and talked to me through everything to make sure that I was doing okay with the process of what was going on with the appointments and my pregnancy. Dr Sarah Jones, my doctor, is such an amazing woman, she was always aware of, well, everything. From the start I felt comfortable and safe with this woman. She always made sure to keep me updated with test results and the following appointments. She explained to me information I had questions about, in detail, and made sure I understood. I learned a lot from her and for that I am forever grateful. These two have truly made me feel as comfortable as could be since the start, I started with them since I was 12 weeks pregnant until my beautiful baby girl`s two month check up. I would still be with them but unfortunately my insurance changed. Delivery and postpartum care was SO amazing, EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT WORKS LABOR IN DELIVERY THAT I CAME ACROSS WITH WAS OUTSTANDING. Who ever my nurses were, (Demerie Queen), I thank you to the moon and back. I never really was in the hospital for any reason and for the times that I went here for my check ups and for the time of my false labor to the actual real thing to feel as comfortable, safe, and secure as I did was just awesome! Everything I wanted and truly needed. My delivery was indescribable. It was astonishing how the nurses guided me and helped me. The postpartum nurses were such a lovely group of nurses. Every single one taught me something. Every single one had such a gentle loving caring vibe. They even sent me home with a flower in a vase with a folder with helpful information and a DVD : ) I am so POSITIVE Sutter Davis has helped me more than I could ever imagine on this amazing journey with my first time being on my own as well as with caring and delivering my first baby. WORST HOSPITAL EVER. This is not a hospital, it is a money-sucking corporation. Do not go here. I had no insurance, got submitted to the ER in the most underhanded way possible when I had an appointment with the Urgent Care instead, even though I had nothing that required emergency care. The doctor was extremely patronizing, and they peer pressured me in a group to do many unnecessary tests and threatened that I was going to die if I don't do these tests. Not a treatment that I wanted as a patient. Worse, they threw me back and forth when I asked billing questions; no one wanted to give me an answer, and voila, I got over $10,000 in charges when it came to my mail. I couldn't afford it and asked for charity care, and 10 different people from 10 different departments threw me back and forth and I got no clear answer, until I asked for more help and they ended up sending me a letter to threaten me to pay my bills even though I have been calling them literally every single day. If you value hospital care at all, do not feed this money-hungry corporation. I have been using Kaiser since, and my experiences with them have been extremely pleasurable and they are not underhanded about their prices and methods, and the staffs there are a lot more caring and personable. read more

Review long over due, had a planned C-section at sutter davis hospital, was released 48 hours after having my daughter, during our stay we seen lactation nurse, multiple nurses, doctors and i expressed my concern with my daughter not latching properly so i then switched her to the bottle and nothing my daughter could not eat, whatever little food she was getting would come threw her nose, i expressed all concerns but instead the nurse told me i need to feed her more, i tried and tried then was latter told my full term baby had to learn how to eat! And we were released to go home! My daughter was sent home to die! Shame on sutter davis hospital! So we went home, at home my daughter still could not eat i started to look into my mouth to see why she could not eat she was missing her uvula i called sutter davis hospital they said she is not missing her uvula all babies have one you can not see it when she cries, went to my postpartum appointment brought my new baby the doctor horta office which is right across the street from sutter expressed my concerned again and i was assured my daughter would learn how to eat by this point i am literally pouring baby formula down my daughter's throat to keep her alive and all you could hear was gurgling and again formula coming back out her nose, long story short i drove my daughter from doctors to doctors offices to see why my daughter could not eat my husband thought i was crazy, but one month latter i found a doctor that saved my daughter's life at this time my daughter lost 2lbs her eyes were black and sunk In my daughter had a cleft palate with a extended roof palate and missing uvula, my daughter is now 6 years old and has had 6 surgeries, how does trained medical professional and a md miss all of this! I called and filed a complaint with the state there investigation stated the day they did a surprise visit to the hospital they were following all protocols, But what about my daughter the day she was born she was thrown on the streets to die! I never even got a sorry from sutter davis hospital what about any long term affects my daughter may have from being so malnourished her first month! Here is the BEST advice i can give any expecting parent stay away if you want to keep your baby alive or the hospital might put you out like trash! read more

Being my first pregnancy my husband and I were very nervous. We took the birthing classes but nothing can really prepare you for the real thing.I had been having contractions for the past two days at home and although they were painful we were timing them and did not want to rush the process and get sent home from the hospital. We did not go to the hospital until my contractions were every 2-3 minutes, as instructed. We called ahead to let the hospital know we were on our way, but that didn't help because when we arrived they still acted like they didn't know why we were there. They put us in a birthing room and the nurse acted as if I was not there to have this baby. She didn't even encourage me to put on the gown. The first I thing did was ask for an epidural for the severe pain I was in, I knew that the anesthesiologist was not on sight and did not want to wait until it was to late. The nurse checked me and said I was at 4 and ignored my many request for the epidural and instructed us that in hour the mid-dude ( that's right, mid-dude)wants me to go on a walk. Mind you at this point I was like the the exorcist every couple of minutes, a walk was not happening. We were trying to stay calm and trust we were being taken care of by the hospital staff. During this time the nurse "helping" did not offer any soothing techniques, birthing ball, dula, etc... It was not until around 2hrs later another nurse came in and actually talked to me about how I was feeling, offered help, and discovered that I was probably about to have my baby. They rechecked me and I was at an 8 and when I asked about my epidural the original nurse said I wasn't even in the system yet. Then we were left alone in the room and the baby started pushing, which is super overwhelming feeling for a first time mother. We had to call for the hospital staff to come back in. When the mid-dude finally arrived for the first time, he came strolling in with no urgency or compassion. From there I pushed for around 1.5 hr and Olivia arrived. In that moment, instead of feeling joy, I was left feeling so distraught and missed treated. It took my quite some time to get over the trauma of the labor. After talking with a nurse post labor she said I should share my story with the management. All the hospital management could say was this isn't a typical situation and people don't usually have babies that fast. All I could think was well apparently it does and hello I labored at home for two days... it happens!! What happened to having trained professionals ready for any situation, no birth is the same. The staff post birth was amazing, very professional and helpful! Sadly, I just can't get over the way my birth was handled. read more

My 96 year old father broke his hip on a Sunday. Sutter's ER was terrific in calming him down and treating him well. Then, up to ICU. Jane, Svetlana, Lana, Nicole, Jane were all terrific and always had smiles. Dr. Porter is a wonderful ortho. Did a terrific job on my Dad, who can be challenging and not in pain. PT worked with him and got him off to URC after only 3 nights in the hospital. Pretty terrific and I would recommend SUtter Davis Hospital to anyone. read more

So update! I gave birth a year ago! Wow. Birth was AMAZING!!! I had a natural water birth which I told them I wanted from the beginning. They were all so super accommodating! Vicky was my midwife and I forget my dulas name. I had my little baby boy with ease! I recommend everyone whose pregnant to have a natural water birth here! No family besides you and your partner. Whenever I have to go to the ER I make the drive to this hospital even though sacramento ER's are a little closer. I went into the ER the other night with severe abdominal pain and vomiting. I'm a nurse and a paramedic so I very rarely will go into the ER, but after 2 hours I needed to go. The only reason why i gave this a 4/5 stars is because of the wait. I understand that we have to wait for an available nurse for each bed and that there was only one doctor but the triage nurse acted like nothing was wrong with me and then when a bed was available even though I could barely walk due to the pain no wheelchair was offered. I had have to wait for a long time for the doctor (which i understand because he was the only one on duty that night) but after the wait it was smooth sailing. Dr. Palmeri got my pain under control as soon as he saw me and did all tests necessary to figure out what was wrong with me and that I needed surgery. The surgery staff were amazing. From the nurses, anesthesiologist, surgeon everyone. They were all amazing. Completely set my mind at ease, let my boyfriend stay with me the entire time and the surgeon allowed him to come in as soon as I woke up. They even sent me a personalized get well card. They went above and beyond and I am incredibly thankful for their care. read more

I stopped into the ER last night/early this morning due to a possible miscarriage. When I arrived, all of the nurses were wonderful with getting me checked in, making sure I was okay, and letting me know they would try and get to me as quickly as possible. Once they got me in, one of the nurses made sure to get me some warm blankets since the room as like an ice box. The attending ER doctor, Kurt Kusserow, came in and asked me questions to determine what route we needed to go. He was the only bad experience of my whole time there. He didn't like the fact that I didn't want an IV placed in my arm- but rather that I would drink water to fill up my bladder for the ultrasound they needed to perform. The idea was that an IV would get fluids to my bladder quicker and also have me ready in the event I was having an ectopic pregnancy. I figured if that ended up being the case, getting an IV in then wouldn't take very long. Reluctantly he dropped the subject after my insistence. I then asked if the ultrasound that would need to be done was going to be internal or not, and then if there was a female available to do that. He told me it would have to be internal and there was a male and female but no guarantee on who I would get. I told him I didn't feel comfortable having a man down there while I have brown blood coming out of me and all he said was, "Well, regardless you need it done." Now, I understand that that doctor is probably a wonderful one and deals with a lot of patients who want to "undermine" his recommendations, but when it comes to a woman who is worrying about losing her pregnancy and going through all the not so fun parts of being a woman, it is not ridiculous to request a woman to be apart of such a sensitive matter. In other words, his bed side manor and empathy to women who are going through something he will NEVER PHYSICALLY understand, needs some work. Anyhow, they brought me lots of water to gulp down and took me back to the ultrasound room where (I was thanking my lucky stars) the female tech, Marline, was and began checking my bladder to see if we could do the ultrasound. I unfortunately didn't have enough in me yet and I expressed my feelings about the male tech since she was going to be heading home at that point. She turned around my anxiety and worry completely and made me feel a whole lot better. She took the time to explain what goes on with an internal scan, that everything stays completely hidden, private, and no "looking" ever happens down there, and how a female nurse is in the room the whole time as a protocol. She even suggested that I could ask, if after the outer ultrasound, if it was even necessary to do the internal one- in other words she helped me feel empowered about my decisions and feelings and my body. Once my bladder was full,Dr. Levy, the male tech, got us rolling. As Marline had explained, Dr. Levy was very professional and kind and kept everything very private and made sure I was 100% okay with everything that was going on. Regardless of the initial doctor, I'm still giving this hospital five stars because of the nursing staff and the ultrasound techs- especially Marline. I figure Dr. Kusserow is probably a great doctor in all other aspects so I can't judge him there. However, changing your initial attitude to someone and their feelings is completely plausible and with a little bit of effort I'm sure he can work on that area of his career and become a much more patient, understanding and empathetic doctor. I still can't express just how thankful I am for the kindness that the nursing staff showed me, for Dr. Levy being so kind about my comfort levels, and for Marline taking the time to put all of my worries at ease. I've unfortunately miscarried at this point but I'm glad I picked that hospital to go to for my care. (It's where I had planned on delivering that baby initially.) Had my baby boy here in January 2016. They were so nice and helpful. They took really good care of me. Nothing to complain.

have been in pt twice in last year and a half. 4 days each time.I found the nursing care top notch and everyone from housekeeping to ct and x ray kind and helpful, and as an rn I have a super critical eye.I heartily recommend it! read more
