I'm a regular at this restaurant because the food is consistently delicious and the service is great--but tonight, I left disappointed enough to write this review. We came in as a party of five at 8:30pm, fully aware they close at 9. We ordered quickly and respectfully, excited to enjoy one of my favorite dishes: the chicken katsu. I've raved about it to friends, especially the generous portions--normally two large, pounded-out chicken breasts per order. But tonight was a different story. We ordered a bibimbap, 10 wings, a roll, gyoza, a child's katsu, tempura and two chicken katsu meals (close to $20 each). For our katsus instead of full portions, it was obvious the kitchen split one order between both plates--then handed the scraps to the child's meal, which we were told would be "half" an adult size. It wasn't even close. Not only was the portion insulting, but the food wasn't fresh. The chicken was dry, overcooked, and hard as a rock. I couldn't even bite through one piece--I had to spit it out. When we brought it up, they offered 10% off. Honestly, that felt like a slap in the face. I had just convinced people to come here based on how good this meal used to be, and instead I ended up apologizing to my guests for bringing them here and still paid for meals we weren't fully served. If you were low on chicken, in a rush to close, or just had a lazy cook that night--own it. Don't try to pass off a single meal as two. That's not just disappointing--it's dishonest. This experience was a joke. And if that's how regulars get treated, I will regular no more. read more

The appetizers were difficult to eat without spoons (which were not provided and I felt weird asking for one so I ended up recycling my husband's spoon from his soup). The sushi was wrapped really loosely and fell apart while I picked it up with chopsticks. My husband's beef teriyaki was good and he had no qualms on the flavor but again presentation was a little messy. Service was good. They refilled our waters and soda without issue. The food came out sporadically and was not sent out together, which left my husband waiting to eat while my food got cold (crispy rice) and then warm (sushi), respectively. Ambiance was dark and moody. Like hard to see dark; there was not enough light from the tiny candle on the table to make up for it. I get the vibe but I would opt for more light overall. The decorations on the walls were tasteful. The overhead lighting felt like they raided the outdoor patio light section of Lowe's when it was clearance in the seasonal garden section. The Tiber on the walls was nice but again felt a bit DIY. My biggest issue was with the tableware. I understand that disposable chopsticks are easier than reusable ones but honestly it would have elevated the meal a lot for me. It's a must to stop into Wichita before heading home to small town Coldwater and my duty to check out a different restaurant each time I'm in the "big" city. Today I tried Sushiya and it did not disappoint! I was very hungry and everything looked delicious on the menu! I opted for a Crazy Stonehenge and it was so yummy! Loads of crab and shrimp with creamy sauces. Super delicious! The service was wonderful and so very attentive. Refilled my drink without even asking. Highly recommended and super clean! read more

Ordered the sushi combo A and the shrimp tempura appetizer. The shrimp tempura was crispy and well seasoned and the dipping sauce provided gave the dish a sweet component to the salty fried shrimp. I love this place. I'm from LA and they have Sushiya over there and this one's even better than those. The people are always nice when you enter saying hi. It's always clean and feels welcoming. I love their Japanese burrito. I come by just to get it. They do a great job with it. The sushi always comes out fresh. My daughter loves the Taco salad (octopus salad) I don't know if that's what they call it. I've been here multiple times and never had a bad time. I generally try not to write sub par reviews, but I'm SHOCKED this place is currently rated 4.9 out of 5, so much so, after a disappointing first visit, I decided to try it again on a recent visit based upon such a high score...maybe I was missing something. I wasn't. First of all, people speak with their feet, and every time I've been here, the place is dead, just myself and one other table, which I'd call a clue. I always order sushi, given the name, but it's average on its very best day, that wasn't today again for me. Someone mentioned the sushi is comparable to LA, which might be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on Yelp. If you're in the Wichita area, and have a craving for landlocked sushi, I would highly recommend Sapporo on the eastside instead of Sushino. read more

My first time ever at a grand opening and I was not disappointed! Everything was absolutely delicious! The staff are all so nice! Our server Andy was super friendly and was already super knowledgeable about their menu. He suggested a couple of really yummy rolls! I was living in South Korea for a year, about two years ago. Lately, I was craving the udon I use to eat there. Sushiya gave me that flavor I was longing for. It was close to the one I use to eat from South Korea but not exact. So far this is my new favorite place. I would recommend this place to all my friends and sushi lovers. Their sushi is fuller than most places. The service was well above average and no wait time. The atmosphere was chill, modern and elegant. Definitely the most beautiful ambiance for sushi in Wichita. It would be soooo much better if they had real chopsticks instead of the wooden ones. Agedashi tofu was good with a little soy sauce in the broth! Mom enjoyed her chicken katsu. The sake sparkler basically just tasted like champagne but no complaints there. We discovered that this restaurant had opened where the old Hana Cafe had been located. The food is excellent. A new menu had a varied new selection of dishes as well as some of the delicious old favorites reminiscent of Hana Cafe's quality meals. The yakisoba noodles will test the dexterity of a novice chop stick user and they are delicious. Portion size was just right for lunch. Beef and veggies had good flavor. The burrito was excellent. Three of us visited for lunch and they brought our sake out without water or silverware, napkins, etc. We had to ask for water and it did take a while to get. One ordered sushi rolls and they literally brought out both rolls before they brought out edamame for appetizer. Weird. The patron ordering the sushi had to go ahead and eat. We also ordered fried chicken wings which were excellent! Another ordered chicken teriyaki bento box which was cold, so I doubt the cook was behind in orders compared to the sushi chef, but I do not know. It definitely needs work on the coordination of meals for the tables. I'm. on the fence if I will even return.
