Haven't been since Covid! Extensive menu and even had non sushi items for my husband. My only complaint was the pieces of each roll was so big I could barely fit them in my mouth! read more

Sushigawa - Spicy crab, Philadelphia, smoked salmon nigiri - Sushi Bars Near Me - Peoria, Illinois

Had a great experience with some coworkers. We ordered an assortment of sushi so they brought it on a boat, which is always fun. Service was on point. Drinks were constantly refilled without asking. It was a chill space to catch up with folks, which was much needed. If I lived in the area, I'd definitely go back. read more

Ordered pork dumplings... they ere heat and serve at best. No small plates with appetizers... we used napkins. Food was not seasoned at all. Again heat and serve. Service was terrible. My second visit after a bad first visit... I wish them the best but I am out.. read more

This sushi and Japanese restaurant serves quality food but I thought the food was not that special. There was nothing wrong but I live in a bigger city and there is a wide variety of sushi restaurants. The miso soup was lukewarm. It had lots of seaweed and was not too high in sodium. The California roll had a tasty filling but the ratio of sushi rice was quite high so the giant bite was mostly starch. The chefs choice sushi was beautiful in presentation and the fish was fresh. The service was excellent and it seemed that both servers were acting as a team. I sat close to the door and besides providing attentive service to a busy restaurant they fetched to go orders at the front counter. The ambiance is very pleasant and the booth side of the tables have a small cushion so your bum is not on the bare wood bench. I enjoyed my meal and would return to try other sushi rolls. read more

Been there a few times before, but this time the meat tasted off, like a bit spoiled. I didn't wanna send the food back because basically if you can't serve fresh food, I don't wanna come back. Sorry you lost my business. read more

In town for a softball tournament and my daughter wanted sushi. I will admit that I was very skeptical that Peoria would have anything decent. Well I was wrong, Sushigawa provided a great place for sushi. However if you are wanting a long list of fancy rolls they do not have. But if you are wanting your standard rolls along with some very good custom rolls your are set. I tried the Spicy Dragon which was spicy octopus and spicy salmon which I had never seen as a combination in my travels, was excellent!!! To top it off the price was extremely reasonable. The plate of sushi in the photo with a soda and 2 large beers ($16.00 each) was $80.00 without tip read more

Unfortunately I would not come here if you have food intolerances or allergies. Even though there is a menu online for allergies I wouldn't trust it. I have celiac disease and was impressed with their allergen menu online. I called before I came and was reassured they could accommodate a gluten free meal, and that everything would be made separate. I ordered based on the allergen menu and double checked with the server AGAIN that it could be made gluten free. When we received our food I noticed the shrimp was deep fried in my sushi, after I had already taken a bite. I asked the server if it was gluten free and he said no, it was not. He then said "Oh, that's not good for you?" I would understand if this was a restaurant that did not offer gluten free options. But they reassured me a total of three times that everything would be safe and that they could accommodate me. I was appalled with how they handled everything. We just decided to pay and leave. read more

Was in town for a tournament. Was not expecting to find a decent sushi spot in Peoria, IL. Pleasantly surprised by Sushigawa's nirigi quality for a reasonable price. Would definitely visit again when in town. Took a star off for sticky walls/dividers. Walls need to be wiped down once in awhile. read more

The sushi was delicious and fresh. Customer service was excellent. Nice atmosphere as well.

The sashimi is very good and has many offerings other than sushi or sashimi. The seaweed salad was also very good. The service is excellent and atmosphere cozy. I will definitely go back again! read more

Hubby and I were exploring Peoria in consideration of relocating there. Highly recommend Sushigawa for folks who enjoy Japanese cuisine. If we ever return to Peoria, we will eat there. Reasonable prices. Service - excellent. Ambiance - excellent Japanese decorations. Modern music. Food - EXCELLENT! I ordered: sashimi - unagi. sushi - ikura. maki - 007, Philadelphia, Rainbow [with 4 different caviars on top], and a 3rd roll [but I don't recall the name]. Hubby [is allergic to fish and eggs] ordered: sushi - vegetable We shared: combo tempura appetizer [shrimp and veggies]. Note: Ask for low sodium Soy sauce if you need it. Regular soy sauce is in the gorgeous pot on the table. read more

I've now been here twice, both times it's been very relaxed with quiet music and guests. The crispy crab roll is to die for. I have very little experience with sushi but I couldn't say a bad thing about the place! Food, service, and ambiance were all great! read more

Best sushi I've ever had. I come from the Chicagoland area and Sushigawa has all of the Chicago sushi places blown out of the water. Lots of choices for everyone! Good sushi, tempura, and appetizers! Attentive service! Good spot for sushi in Peoria!

Wonderful sushi! I love their ambiance, tea, green tea ice cream. They have all my favorites and incredible sushi. So so so good!!

Very bad service, sushi was so big full of rich , long time waiting don't go there never 0 stars

We have gotten pickup from here twice. The food is okay. The first time I got pick up I got there on time and had to wait 5 minutes. Not a big deal. The second time I got there on time, was told it would be 5 minutes, and it took an additional 25 minutes. No one came to update me during these 25 minutes. No apology for the wait when they finally handed me my food. A simple "sorry your food is taking so long" goes a long way. read more

The sushi was nice. We tried various rolls and none of them were covered in mayonnaise. The unagi don was good, not muddy tasting, and there was a good amount of eel in it. read more

I have always considered this the best sushi restaurant in Peoria but their practice of closing at 2 is really irritating especially when you go in at 1:45 and they won't serve you. Late lunches on a Saturday are not unusual. They need to serve their customers better. read more

Best Japanese restaurant in Peoria. Service is good, ambience is nice, and sushi is delicious. Favorite maki: - spicy crab (when I want something simple) - fried spicy crab (when I want something simple and fried) - crunch (when I want something crunchy) - 007 (when I want something fancy) Favorite apps: - korokke - takoyaki - edamame Like many sushi places I've been to, a lot of the tables are close together so don't expect to have a lot of privacy. If you're lucky and have enough people though, there's a big table at the very front of the restaurant that's kind of in its own room - best seats in the house. read more

This sushi place is average. I think they overprice a lot of the sushi. I got a volcano roll for about 12$ and there was 6 pieces. along with beautiful garnishes of veggies and fruits around the plate. I mean ok yea it looks a lot like fine dining, but the quality of the food is mediocre. I don't think it was good enough for the price, and if they're going to charge that much then give more sushi pieces or they better have a famous sushi chef in the back. my bf ordered a couple things that he said was very mediocre and it was nothing to applaud to. The atmosphere was nice, it was kinda loud because they had a full house. the server was attentive so that was good, they were friendly there so that's also a plus. Service was on point, and the food came out pretty quick. overall its an average place, with average food. read more

Breaks my heart to say, but this place has gone down. The tuna nigiri is inedible- happened twice now where there is visible cartilage or gristle or something that ruins texture. I literally had to bail on one and it ended up in my napkin. And the nigiri are big but fall apart and almost made me choke. Is it new ownership? Something's off because this has been our family's go-to special restaurant for years. But twice now in 2024 it has been sub par. The sushigawa roll used to be our fave but now... it was so much mayo! Didn't even recall it had mayo but white stuff was oozing everywhere. Sushi is quality... doesn't make you sick or anything, but just not what it used to be as far as excellence that could stand up to any sushi from big cities we have visited. Makes me so sad. Staff was efficient and friendly. But someone should have taken the time to clean glass door out front and floors better... sorry if it sounds snobby but especially for sushi restaurants, I notice if it's not really really clean. read more

What a disappointing experience. We used to eat at this restaurant frequently, but whoever has taken over does not deliver the same quality food and poor service. We have ordered carry out and they sneak in a huge tip online. We asked them to remove it as it was not authorized, this took 20 minutes. Meanwhile, they never even started making our food until they sorted out how to fix their overcharging. What should have been a simple pick up order took almost an hour. Regretfully, I don't believe we will be back. read more

Quality this good in Central, IL. Impossible! Luckily for us, a reality. Woot! WOOT! Beautiful presentation & super fresh & very tasty. We enjoyed the Chirash Don (Variety of Sashimi over Sushi Rice) 19.95. AMAZING! The miso soup was perfectly made with a light & flavorful broth. The house salad was crisp & ginger dressing was one of the best I've tasted. Cold sake is the only way to truly enjoy it the correct way. Thank you for gracing us Central, IL folk with amazing Japanese! read more

If anyone asks why you would order sushi in Peoria, just direct them to this place. It was delicious. Ordered the fried jalapeños appetizer which were great. Then pink lady and 007 rolls plus a house salad. Enjoyed everything. Great service. It was crowded. Only negative: I don't know if it was the soy sauce or crunchies, but my rolls were saltier than I would have hoped. read more

Fantastic atmosphere, professional service, high prices, but we will be back for more of the Catching Fire and amazing nagiri! Good location and one of the best atmospheres a sushi place can get. There are other local spots offering better value, roll options, and more on the menu but Sushigawa maintains a standard in presentation and ingredients few places in the midwest I've found can match. I would just say there is good reason to at least offer comolimentary soup and salad alongside a good order of sushi. read more

I haven't been here in years so seeing the new renovation and changes were nice! Has a sleek, modern feel to it now. Dim lighting even in the daytime ;) I had the Volcano with red snapper. It was alright-too bland and nothing special. My cousin had the Catching Fire. It was legit in flames. The wasabi sauce made my nose burn, but had lots of flavor. This was definitely better than the Volcano though. I think the ingredients used were not fresh, something just tasted off. Overall, service was good. My taste buds have definitely changed since I've been here last since I've had my fair share of sushi. So in my opinion, sushi was ehhhh. Would rather eat somewhere else if I was in the area. However I can see where this place may be the go to for the Peoria area where there's not a lot of authentic Asian cuisines. read more

I dunno who took this place over but man, let's just say when you prep a salad you don't dressing the salad and put it back in the fridge it wilts everything and then you definitely don't serve it also you don't pre prep sushi rolls...it makes the seaweed gross and slimey and everything tastes off. I won't be back. These guys used to be pretty damned good but you can't take shortcuts and prepare fresh made rolls ahead of time it just doesn't work out and it definitely shows. For the price tag it's not worth it the food was gross slimey salad temperature was off for the slimey sushi rolls. What a bummer !! We couldn't finish our meal ...only thing we could stomach was the cherry coke and the edamame read more

Coming from Chicago my husband (who has an obsession with sushi) and I were looking for a really legit and delicious sushi place. I love rolls and my husband loves Sake Don or Chirashi Don entrees, Nigiri, and Sashimi. Sushigawa does all of these things right! The quality of the fish is by far one of... If not the best in Peoria. Unlike other places we have been to around here... They have the best sushi. We both always look for authentic sushi and this is the place to go in Peoria. Plenty of parking, casual environment, staff is very nice! I think the staff is starting to know us because we try to eat here often lol! They even know our dogs name! Haha! Update: We recently came for a lunch date and I tried their teriyaki salmon and it was delicious! My husband tried the shrimp tempura maki with 7 piece sushi as well as 2 pieces of sashimi. We also tried the agedashi tofu. Everything was great as usual!!! read more

One of the few places in this god forsaken state to actually serve good sushi, I'd give it 10 stars if I could

Visiting the area. I was in a bad mood, in pain, and wanted sushi to make me feel better and at home. I drove in and could not find the place. It's a tiny place sandwiched in right next to five guys. Can't really say that made me feel better when I had to call to ask. I was a total meany to them lol... wish I wasn't.. their food is really good and they are good with hangry people like myself! Weird rice stuffed gyoza but krispy. Sushi is well taken care of and tasty. Aside from English, I speak Korean, Chinese, some Japanese. My server didn't like my attitude, called me a name I recognized over by the sushi table, but I don't care, I deserved it. Still great! ;) read more
