Unfortunately I would not come here if you have food intolerances or allergies. Even though there is a menu online for allergies I wouldn't trust it. I have celiac disease and was impressed with their allergen menu online. I called before I came and was reassured they could accommodate a gluten free meal, and that everything would be made separate. I ordered based on the allergen menu and double checked with the server AGAIN that it could be made gluten free. When we received our food I noticed the shrimp was deep fried in my sushi, after I had already taken a bite. I asked the server if it was gluten free and he said no, it was not. He then said "Oh, that's not good for you?" I would understand if this was a restaurant that did not offer gluten free options. But they reassured me a total of three times that everything would be safe and that they could accommodate me. I was appalled with how they handled everything. There was nothing wrong but I live in a bigger city and there is a wide variety of sushi restaurants. The miso soup was lukewarm. It had lots of seaweed and was not too high in sodium. The California roll had a tasty filling but the ratio of sushi rice was quite high so the giant bite was mostly starch. The chefs choice sushi was beautiful in presentation and the fish was fresh. The service was excellent and it seemed that both servers were acting as a team. I sat close to the door and besides providing attentive service to a busy restaurant they fetched to go orders at the front counter. Well I was wrong, Sushigawa provided a great place for sushi. However if you are wanting a long list of fancy rolls they do not have. We have gotten pickup from here twice. The food is okay. The first time I got pick up I got there on time and had to wait 5 minutes. Not a big deal. The second time I got there on time, was told it would be 5 minutes, and it took an additional 25 minutes. No one came to update me during these 25 minutes. Breaks my heart to say, but this place has gone down. The tuna nigiri is inedible- happened twice now where there is visible cartilage or gristle or something that ruins texture. I literally had to bail on one and it ended up in my napkin. And the nigiri are big but fall apart and almost made me choke. Is it new ownership? Something's off because this has been our family's go-to special restaurant for years. But twice now in 2024 it has been sub par. The sushigawa roll used to be our fave but now... it was so much mayo! Didn't even recall it had mayo but white stuff was oozing everywhere. Sushi is quality... doesn't make you sick or anything, but just not what it used to be as far as excellence that could stand up to any sushi from big cities we have visited. Makes me so sad. What a disappointing experience. We used to eat at this restaurant frequently, but whoever has taken over does not deliver the same quality food and poor service. We have ordered carry out and they sneak in a huge tip online. We asked them to remove it as it was not authorized, this took 20 minutes. This sushi place is average. I think they overprice a lot of the sushi. I got a volcano roll for about 12$ and there was 6 pieces. along with beautiful garnishes of veggies and fruits around the plate. I mean ok yea it looks a lot like fine dining, but the quality of the food is mediocre. I don't think it was good enough for the price, and if they're going to charge that much then give more sushi pieces or they better have a famous sushi chef in the back. my bf ordered a couple things that he said was very mediocre and it was nothing to applaud to. I dunno who took this place over but man, let's just say when you prep a salad you don't dressing the salad and put it back in the fridge it wilts everything and then you definitely don't serve it also you don't pre prep sushi rolls...it makes the seaweed gross and slimey and everything tastes off. I haven't been here in years so seeing the new renovation and changes were nice! Has a sleek, modern feel to it now. Dim lighting even in the daytime ;) I had the Volcano with red snapper. It was alright-too bland and nothing special. My cousin had the Catching Fire. It was legit in flames. The wasabi sauce made my nose burn, but had lots of flavor. This was definitely better than the Volcano though. I think the ingredients used were not fresh, something just tasted off. Overall, service was good. My taste buds have definitely changed since I've been here last since I've had my fair share of sushi. So in my opinion, sushi was ehhhh. Would rather eat somewhere else if I was in the area.
