Itsumi - The 115₺ 30 piece sushi platter. The best ones are the six in the middle

Authentic, that's how I would describe Itsumi…read more I've been to two sushi places recently, Inari and Itsumi. And while Inari was good, Itsumi has the best sushi I ate in Istanbul so far. It's one of the only places to have gotten the texture of rice just right. I didn't fall in love with every single roll we had ordered on the 30 piece 115₺ sushi platter, but for the most part, it was great, especially the dragon and crunchy roll were heavenly. The menu is authentic, you won't find your beef sushi roll here like other Japanese restaurants which create rolls specifically catered for the Turkish palate. The friendly and attentive staff is authentic, talk to each other in Japanese, there is even a Japanese waitress, so while I didn't particularly like the decor, this place is the most authentic Japanese experience I've ever had in Istanbul. No wonder that Japanese people frequent here. And as far as pricing goes, it really isn't that expensive for a Japanese restaurant of this quality. Certainly not a cheap meal, but if you ever find yourself in Kanyon craving for some sushi, do not, for the love of sushi, go near SushiCo and torture yourself with that atrocity, you deserve better, your stomach deserves better, just go out, walk for a little, and find this place. Your stomach will thank me. However there are a few minor points. They don't serve real wasabi but horseradish like most other places, unlike Inari, which does serve the real deal. The green tea ice cream was too bitter, again Inari is better in this aspect. But this is just nitpicking.

Do you ever get the feeling when you talk into a restaurant in a foreign country... and all you see…read moreare people eating of the same ethnicity of the restaurant your eating at? Well as much as Italian food in Istanbul is hit or miss, lets just say japanese food is almost always a miss. Now I know what your thinking, who starts a review with a run on sentence and a gross generalization? THIS GUY! But seriously. I walked into Itsumi, which is almost impossible to describe where it is, and what do I see? About 25 Japanese people eating at the various tables. I already knew it was going to be great the moment I walked in. On all levels, Itsumi delivered. Amazing service, amazing food, very vocal chef who sent us a complimentary dish. We got a bottle of Saki (hot) and about 60 pieces of sushi, a soup and an appetizer split between four people. We walked out paying a 160TL each. Considering the bottle was 225TL, I am thinking this was an amazing deal. Try the fried shrimp app, the miso soup, the seawood soup, and virtually any of their sushi platters. I promise you, you won't be disappointed. Easiest 5 star review I will ever have to write. ps. Shout to TimeOut Istanbul for putting me on to this place. You are finally doing it right.

From the beginning, this was an incredible dining experience. The staff were welcoming, inviting,…read moreand outstanding at serving. Everything I consumed was amazing. I cannot remember the names of everything but we started with drinks. The Paloma margarita and the white coconut rum/pineapple drink (which is the best drink I've ever had)! Next up, the sweet chili beef tenderloin, California sushi and tempura sushi, chicken wings with that light lime marinade, fried calamari, and the broccoli!!!

Let me start with how great the ambiance and decor is. I like the open kitchen concept too ( for…read morethe grill) Our waiter was very knowledgable and super attentive. Food: I am sushi person,I would not recommend the sushi here .Had couple of nigiris, nothing caught my taste buds, especially salmon was so blend . However tuna tataki was great. We had some other dishes to fill us up but I don't think it is worth the price . But hey,I am spending dollars so it is ok The biggest flaw of the night, I ordered a bottle of red wine and it came with these cheap ikea looking wine glasses. I did not care as much in the beginning till another couple sitting next to us got crystal glasses while I am drinking my bottle of wine from the same glasses I used in college in my frat house. This blonde lady walking around kept carrying wine so I asked he if she was the sommelier and she said yes. I explained the situation and her answer was " Their wine is Bordeaux ,yours is not" Excuse the fuck me???? I thought I misheard since she had a thick russian-ish accent and I asked again.( I am Turkish but I lived in States for 20 years so there is no way she could have misunderstood me but just in case) Then she walked away like nothing happened. I have been from Napa to Florence for wine, this is the first time I heard my bottle of cab sav is not good enough for crystal wine glasses. If you are charging half of minimum wage in Turkey for dinner ,you better get a sommelier who knows what she is doing and serve my wine like u charge me all this money. This review will be on trip advisor as well.
