Avoid this company. We are vacationing in Cabo for the first time. We read the good reviews and we made reservations with Juan Carlos for the larger boat for a half day of fishing at $550 without buying the boxed lunch. We were transferred to another guy who walked us to the dock and transferred again to our captain (Santiago) and deckhands (Brandon and Gus(?)). We spent the first several hours trawling top water baits presumably for marlin. At one point the captain hooked one and set the hook and reeled it in some. After he did the fun part he passed the pole to me. Before I could hold the pole and start reeling the fish got off the line. That was as close to getting a fish we got all day. At some point they switched to bottom fishing with live bait but got no bites. We could see other boats around us landed fish. When we arrived back to the docks the other boats succeeded in catching themselves "sushi." The captain and deckhands were nice enough, but spoke zero English. Their Spanish was unintelligible as I am an OK Spanish speaker but they were both hard to understand and not interested to talk. The captain and deckhands did not communicate, did not tell us the plan for the day, could not explain what to do with the equipment. We basically watched them fish all morning and almost didn't get to touch the rods ourselves. Our family of four felt like spectators. They had about 8-10 live fish in the well for the entire ride. When they ran out of live bait our trip was over. I feel like it would have been more appropriate to have more bait available at this price point so that we wouldn't go home empty handed. Also, there's a sign on the boat announcing you're expected to add a 25-30% tip. We complied with tipping with no questions asked despite no communication, no teaching, and no fish. I had told the kids in advance that we would catch a fish and take it to a restaurant to eat that night like other reviewers. Be aware that you could spend $550 before tip, watch the staff fish all day, not touch the equipment yourselves, and get skunked. read more

Caught some yellowfin tuna on a day trip. Brought some of the fish back to this restaurant and they put together an amazing meal for us. The service was amazing very accommodating for us. The restaurant was clean and the sushi sashimi dishes that were created with our fresh fish was, simply delicious amazing would go back there again for sure. I would highly recommend others to do the same because any sushi restaurant would focus on providing the best sushi sashimi dishes in this restaurant does not disappoint. read more

I wanted to enjoy this. It was our sons first time fishing and they had good reviews, but overall it was the worst thing that we did in Cabo and our son definitely is not going to like fishing after this experience. I confirmed with them the day before if I could pay in card or if I needed cash. I was told that card would be fine but I would have to pay card fees (which I confirmed I was fine with). When we got there I was told I needed cash and they didnt bring the card machine. I was able to paypal them the balance so it worked out. We ended up having to stop for gas before going out to fish, which I found odd cause I felt like they shouldve already been fueled up, but they forced us to get out of the boat while they fueled up and in the process my cell phone that also had my credit cards fell out of my pocket into the ocean. That is more on me than them, but had they been fueled up it wouldnt have happened and it definitely caused a headache/scrambling for our trip. Then we spent the next 4.5 hours not catching anything. We didnt really feel like our captain was all that interested in finding us fish to catch. We were surprised he didnt have a fish finder to ensure we would have a successful fishing experience. The worst part of our endeavor though was when I asked for a life jacket for our son and was told he didnt have one on the boat because "hes never taken babies out before." Our son is nine and they knew his age prior to our arrival to fish. On top of that we paid $20/pp for a boxed lunch and all it was was processed American food. A very strange tortilla (my husband said his was beans/cream cheese, Im pretty sure mine was fish/beans). A sandwich on white bread with kraft singles and cheap lunch meat. A small package of ritz crackers. A small bag of mexican chips that tasted like bugles to me. Some nuts and a granola bar that did not taste good. We've been eating like kings while in Cabo so to spend $40 on that nastiness was insult to injury. Anyway, my rambling is done. Moral of the story is we paid close to $400 for shitty food, no fish, lost cell phone/credit cards, and sunburns for an excursion that was supposed to last for 5 hours but lasted probably 4 hours between the stop for gas and the trip ending a half hour early. Not that I was too upset with it ending early after how much we didnt enjoy it, but next time if there is a next time I will splurge for a more expensive fishing trip. read more

He prepared our catch for cooking, which was on the table at Captain Tony's restaurant in 40 minutes. We (My Husband and I) caught numerous "Jacks", a "Rooster Fish" and a 108 lbs Striped Marlin on our half day fishing trip on July 6th, 2015. It was AWESOME and my favorite part of my entire trip to Cabo! Email Juan Carlos (owner) ahead of time and reserve your spot and see what promos they're offering. Our trip included the works : 5 hour fishing trip on a private panga w/ all needed gear, tackle, ice chest & ice, live bait, fishing licenses, boxed lunch (optional- we opted for it), and drinks (pop, beer, water). The owner and Captains at Sushi Time are trustworthy, honest and really do their best to ensure you feel like a welcomed guest. I would come back to Cabo just to fish with Sushi Time again. You don't need an expensive fishing charter to ensure you catch fish and have a good time. We did it on a budget and caught plenty of fish. We would use them again in a heartbeat. PRO TIPS: Bring Cash: We paid our deposit online via PayPal and paid the remaining amount in cash at the marina that morning. We had exact change which made it easy and we were on our way out in a jiffy. We also had the cash handy for the fish we caught. See the notes below on what it costs to filet your catch and smoke it. What to bring: Bring a durable bag that you don't mind getting filthy and can be easily wiped down. Now, stuff that sucker with all needed essentials. We brought Gatorade, baseball caps, sunglasses, extra sunscreen and snacks. We opted for boxed lunches through them which was good and included a basic sandwich, apples, oranges, peanuts, chips, and granola bars. I believe you can bring your own lunch and a cooler if you prefer. Pack a Cooler: Check with Juan Carlos for tips on what to bring if you want to bring your fish back home with you. There is a Costco in town where you can pick up coolers there if you don't want to pack one. Also, check with your hotel on if they have space to hold your fish or talk to Juan Carlos for options on storing your fish while your there. Mounting Your Catch: We did not do this. If you want to mount you catch it will cost anywhere from $1000 USD on up. Check with Juan Carlos on who he would recommend to use for this service and price it our ahead of time so you're prepared. Over charged me. Juan told me the Facebook deal was $250. I just saw it for $190. They just make up whatever price they can get. It's so sad how they operate. Pros: Jesus is extremely rough around the edge but knows how to fish. We hooked and brought in a marlin. His wife of over 25 years just passed away with stomach cancer and is also putting to kids through college. Please be generous. cons: There is no deckhand at this price. I had an abbreviated half-day trip because my seasick pills did not work, and I did indeed get seasick. But it was completely worth it, and I would do it again, albeit with trying a different nausea prevention method. Let's be straight about a couple of things: 1) Based on what I saw coming out of the marina daily, the boats with Sushi Time are on the smaller side, BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER!!! If you are only 1 or 2 people, you can't beat the price, and a bigger boat is not going to necessarily put you on more or bigger fish. All the boats go out to around the same areas. You might get a more comfortable fighting chair (I was too big for mine), but that's a minor issue. 2) My Captain Pedro was great, but let's also be clear - you are going to Mexico, and the first language is Spanish. Pedro had some passable English, but you would do yourself a huge favor to have a small working knowledge of Spanish to make communication flow a little easier. Pedro and I had a good time and a few laughs, even at my throwing up over the side! 3) Juan Carlos, the excellent owner/operator of Sushi Time (who speaks perfect English) advised me to meet the boat at the pier near the Starbucks in the Marina. So of course I looked up starbucks on Google Maps, which took me to the complete opposite side of the marina. Senor Frogs is the better marker, as Juan Carlos also advised, but being the silly American I went for the familiar. Taking all those things into consideration, I had a great time at a great price. Even if you never caught a fish, just trolling along the coastline is gorgeous. But of course, you would be there for fish, and besides a lull of about 45-60 minutes, we had no problem getting bites. In fact the first line to hit the water had a fish on in less than 5 minutes. I fought that guy for near a half hour I think, and he spit the hook. But I did manage to bring in a estimated 25 lb. Amberjack that was great fun, and a Roosterfish that became lunch! Not bad for a little over 3 hours on the water. After getting seasick, Juan Carlos met me at the dock to make sure I was ok and ultimately drove me back to my hotel, but not before taking me to Marisco's Mazatlan to drop off the Roosterfish so they could prep and cook it for my family and I for lunch that day. Some of the best fish taco's were made of that fish that I have ever had! Even my infant daughter ate some of the fish and wanted more. I am going to figure out how to beat this motion sickness thing, and when I do I will definitely use Sushi Time again on my next trip to Cabo. Thanks Juan Carlos!!! read more

After researching many fishing companies in San Lucas Cabo, I came across Sushi Time Sport Fishing through Trip Advisior. I have nothing but great things to say about Sushi Time. Prior to our trip, I had made reservations about 2 weeks advance using their website. I posted a question using their forum and received a reply no later than 3 hours. After a few exchanges of emails, I placed reservations. However, a day prior to the fishing trip, my hubby experienced sea sickness on one of our other excursions. I contacted Sushi Time immediately to cancel the trip expecting to pay the $100 cancel fee. However, the staff was so understanding and nice that they waived the fee even when the cancellation is less than 24 hours away. No only are they very accommodating, they are one of the most affordable company when it comes to deep sea excursions! I highly recommend Sushi Time Fishing!! read more

We spent 2 days fishing with Sushi Time charters and had a great time. The first day we chartered the 36 ft Bertram (for 5 ppl) and went deep sea fishing with Captain Tony. We caught 2 Yellowfin Tuna and had a great day on the water. The crew was great and my two kids had a blast. The second day 3 of us went fishing with Captain Jorge on a super panga and went trolling closer to shore. We caught 14 fish! 1 amberjack and 13 skipjack! It was a great day and my 8 year old was able to reel in a few fish on his own. I've been fishing in Hawaii, Cancun, and Puerto Vallarta and this fishing trip was definitely the best! No head, no cabin, no fishing tenders and 7 pieces of bait for two for five hours! You will cook and burn in the sun and have to pee over the side! Watch for the wind! LOL. Rough waters for s tiny boat. Unsafe if you have kids, I think. All the REAL fishing boats go out fishing and you circle the port. Tending to the lines constantly, baits them and all.. So whether youre a first timer or a seasoned fisher, Sushi time is the way to go!! Juan Carlos is the man you want to contact to get set up. Took two trips around XMAS 2018- Thought I posted then. Sorry Juan Carlos.... (and took a trip in the Sea of Cortez with another operation and got skunked) With Sushi Time- Had a great time- hooked up a bunch of different fish (Groupers, Rooster, but no dang Dorados). CAPT Jorge was on the ball- knows how to find the fish- but there are no guarantees to catching fish. That is when you need a good Captain who knows how to change it up and find a few to hook. That is exactly what Skipper Jorge did. Bottom line, I'm looking forward to going back for Memorial Day weekend with a few friends and fishing 3 or 4 times- and again at XMAS- and will be calling Sushi Time- No question about it. Juan Carlos- Book me a trip on May 26 for 3 on one of your small boys, May 28 on one of the bigger boats-- (fill that cooler with ice so our beer is cold) Bill- ps- What is nice about this operation is that you do not get nickel/dimed for fishing licenses, ice, etc. At the end of the day, Juan will guide you as to how much to pay for getting your fish cleaned- read more

Very poor product for the price. The panga boat was small, extremely beat up and uncomfortable seats. Our captain worked hard, but the gear (garage sale quality) and boat left much to be desired. Paid additional $30 for a lunch that could not have been more than $5 (beer included). I do not recommend unless you're getting it for under $200 compared to other options. read more

I've fished twice through sushi time and both times were fantastic, once in April and again just last week! I had originally found them through a cruise board where people the recommended them and looked up their numerous great reviews and the price was right so I had reached out to them via the website and received a very prompt response (in English) and they answered all of my questions and even worked with me on alternate times since I was visiting cabo via cruise ship. (Btw, booking a fishing excursion through the cruise line would've cost over $300 PER PERSON and sushi time cost under $300 total for both of us and included food, licenses, bait, tackle etc). On both trips we caught fish and had a blast. The hubby caught a shark and I caught a mahi mahi. I highly recommend sushi time and will use them in the future! read more

The first day, they told us the wrong time and gave us a map to the wrong dock, so then when we showed up at the correct place 45 minutes late they basically blamed us and had sent our boat out already so had no boat for us. Made the correct plan to come back the next day at the right time and place, but didn't tell us that we would need to pay in cash, so we had to scramble to get money from the ATMs on the pier which generated almost $30 in ATM fees. Our super panga captain (Roberto) probably is a very nice guy and likely in his 60s so he probably has incredible knowledge of the local fishing, which is what we wanted to learn, but he basically spoke zero English, and his Spanish was almost unintelligible because he mumbled so significantly, so we basically couldn't communicate with him at all even though I speak OK Spanish. The minute we hooked anything, he would literally push us out of the way and grab the fishing pole from our hands and reel for a while before giving it back. He spent about 45 minutes fishing himself but never offered to give us the pole or set up another one for us so we just sat there watching him fish. We only ended up catching two needlefish, and one was smaller so we threw it back, but the other was about 4 feet long. When we got off the boat, he didn't even make any indication that we could keep the fish to eat, which was the reason we went fishing in the first place. Overall, we hooked 2 fish that got away, caught the two fish, and hooked 2 hammerhead sharks that bit the lines off. We saw a ton of jumping Manta Rays, a big pod of dolphins right by the boat, 3 big sharks, and had a nice time talking with each other but it was a big disappointment to not be able to take advantage of learning from Roberto or even conversing with him, and it was not fun to have the fishing pole ripped out of our hands the moment the fun part starts. read more

Underwhelmed by our experience on a two person fishing boat last week. Caught a few small fish but small catch wasn't the problem- we felt the excursion was quite dull and uninformative. For context we were vacationing in Cabo, are adventurous and active people with limited boating experience and almost zero fishing experience. Upsides include easy booking process, punctual and nice enough people. Downsides: There was no communication from the boat caption about the experience, the plan for the day or what we should do. He drove the boat, baited and cast the lines and handed us the rod to hold. We paid for the box lunch but unsure of what was in as nothing to eat or drink was offered to us until the very end when we were thoroughly bored with bursting bladders and anxious to get off the boat. Drinking beer would have made the experience a little more interesting but not sure how one avoids the need to pee for 5+ hours while consuming beverages. My boyfriend peed off the side the of the boat but when I mentioned I wanted to head in because I needed to go to the bathroom, the caption offered a bucket to go in. (pass) Head's up to the ladies on that. Based on the other reviews, I was expecting a much different experience so hoping to add another perspective here. Disappointed with the experience after seeing good reviews. Showed up on time but the head guy for Sushi time did not. He was very apologetic however and this was not the reason for a 2 star review. Took out 23' with George who spoke little English. Fortunate to hook a large striped marlin early on and it was apparent that the line was wrapped around the tail. Fought it for over an hour but George kept grabbing the rod from my son and giving the marlin some run in effort to tire it out. After an hour ++, George lost the fish to a severed line. I learned afterward that it is illegal to land a marlin by the tail but George never said anything and fought the fish for a long time with apparently the intention to fight in until the line broke. This just served to use up 1.5 hours of our fishing time and never got another bite (not his fault). George never digressed from his approach so the 5 hours turned into 5 hours of trolling with 2 of 3 fisherman never touching a rod. With no action, he could have opted for bottom fishing just to get something going but easier merely to put the lines in the water and drive the boat. Also don't pay for the lunch. All in all would not use this outfit again. read more
