It is clearly in direct competition with Shiranui, which is located closer to the main part of the shops, but if you've managed to get a park close to Century City, or if you're after Japanese cuisine impulsively and without booking, you're better off dining at Yokohama. The food is really quite good, if a bit expensive. My preferred dish is beef teriyaki, which is absolutely delicious. It's $27.50, so it isn't outrageous, but I've had equally good beef teriyaki for a bit less than that elsewhere. Maybe it's just my impression that the serving size was a little on the small side for that price. The service is good, with polite waiters and waitresses who are attentive to the customers. The décor is neatly laid out, and the atmosphere is pleasant. I've got terrible hearing, so most places I go, I need to strain to join in conversation with my friends, and even then, I miss half the conversation. This isn't much of a problem at Yokohama Teppanyaki, even when it's busy.

I don't eat seafood though, so I put it off. If you don't know, Omakase is where the chef decides what he's serving to you. Anyway, long story short, I ended up going after being persuaded by my lovely wife. I can tell you that it's quite an experience. While I sat quietly, enjoying my chicken dish (the name of which escapes me, but it was quite nice and fresh), my wife was treated to a series of beautifully presented (and judging by the reaction of my better half, beautifully tasting) dishes. It's a nice place, the service is pretty good and the food is tasty. I will be going back there.

Meat was tender and very fragrant. Dinner: Dinner is more expensive and there are two sittings. It is important to book in advance. You can go with the al a carte or Omakase (sit on the bench and the chef chooses what to serve you). I have had each option several times and I suggest trying the Omakase first that way you can experience different types of sushi. One you know what you like, it may be more reasonable for your wallet to not have omakase. Must haves for me each time: seared salmon sushi, kingfish, yakuniku beef, sashimi platter, and of course the OYSTER- this is a must have and cost $4.5 each last time I went but so worth it. There is no fishyness to the oyster and it is in a sushi form topped of with something like kewpie mayo or cheese. AMAZING! This wasn't a big issue as I just asked the waitress to take it back and heat it up a bit more, but you'd usually expect your soup steamy hot rather than mildly warm to begin with. I also did not enjoy the gyozas they served here, but I am a big fan of dumplings and can be quite finicky about them. The second time I went with my sister (her soup was steamy hot), I ordered the eggplant. I had ordered the eggplant the first time too which was fine, but this time is was just wrong. It was so incredibly oily, I felt terribly sick afterwards that for a few months after it I wouldn't touch eggplant because it reminded me of my experience here. Even to this day, I am sill cautious that if I eat an eggplant it will cause a relapse of that day (eggplant 'was' one of my favorite vegetables). So my personal experiences here haven't been so great (bad luck?), but others I know of have been thoroughly satisfied. The taste and noodles are definitely on par with the ajisen franchise overseas.
