Well this is a surprise.. In the heart of suburban Coburg,…read morethere is a car wash joint. I've seen it numerous times and maybe once or twice thought I should go wash my car there. I never did, and the other thing I never did, was eat sushi at a car wash. Ever. Until I read up about them on Broadsheet. "Fresh hand made sushi rolls" really? " tender fresh fish" "fresh ingredients and extensive range " "ambitious selection and winners"! ok that and the pictures was enough to take me to a Friday takeaway to this local "awesome" sushi joint that had apparently been there a while but struggled to attract customers ( well it's a very unusual set up so I'm not surprised) I was surprised that my sushi rolls were just that, fresh, tender, juicy, made to order and just delicious. Lots of selection to keep me entertained for another local dinner ( although I might feel weird eating there staring at other peoples car being washed. So I might stick to take away for now) And no boring stale sushi rolls on a glass cabinet, no siree. Words on broadsheet is that this joint will be seeing a revamped soon, and I can't wait to see this place gain popularity and loyal locals because I think they deserve it and Coburg definitely deserves a good local sushi joint!

The Kaki Fry (fried oysters) is one of my favorites and never fails to satisfy. The sushi is delicious and creative. The staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant decor creates a good atmosphere however this is let down whenever the phone rings. The ringing tone sounds like a poker machine and gave myself and my guest an unfortunate vibe last time we visited. This aside Chiba is a great Japanese restaurant that i will continue to visit.

As someone who consistently seeks new flavours, experiences and techniques, Chiba Japanese…read morerestaurant has again proven its longevity after I've returned for yet another of its simply and expertly executed meals. The decor is modern and the furnishings clean, with finesse that is uniquely Japanese, setting the tone for the meals that rapidly flow from the kitchen. Fresh & traditional dishes are served by polite wait staff who weave through the often fully booked restaurant efficiently and professionally. All levels of flavour preferences can easily be met; you will often see children with their parents at the first dinner sitting, and popular Western favourites like hand rolls and teriyaki chicken also grace the menu. This however, is not what should be expected as the standard from Chiba, as they offer dishes for a more refined palette like takaki beef and octopus sashimi. Comfortable, impeccable and very reasonably priced, Chiba Japanese restaurant never disappoints.

Sushi in shopping centres can be very hit or miss but when you are on that mammoth shopping…read moreextravaganza you need to be well fed so you try them all, hoping that one will deliver on the promises of good sushi. After 6 hours I had gone to bed with a tight pain in my stomach, I thought I could just sleep it off so I then woke up at 1 am and threw up everything I ate from 1 to 6 i had constantly regurgitated everything in my stomach, after the 3rd time it was suspicious, I had emptied my stomach and yet there was a painful sting still present. I had woken up and i knew that I was sick, so you may be wondering why the accusations on this store considering everything else I ate? Well for dinner I had home made pizza, I thought it was the pizza but my father and brother ate just as many slices and were perfectly fine. That's when I was contacted by my associate, he had been up at night in the same pain I endured. I knew it was the sushi, we ate the same fish from the same store, fish spoils fast and the hygiene looked unprofessional in the store, it was a mistake buying from here . This was a very painful experience, I had a sharp pain in my stomach and had thrown up everything I ate for 48 hours. Not only am I in distraught and can no longer eat fish but I had missed out on a big event that was planned on the weekend that I fell sick, a martial arts tournament that I had prepared for for 6 months, I was not able to attend and left my competitor unchallenged and disappointed. To make matters even worse, me and my family had planned to stay at a hotel in a small beach town not too far from our residents, the rooms were paid for and were ready to stay in, but unfortunately we could not stay and I was bed ridden. So to sum it all up, I had been severely sick with a painful case of food poisoning, I had missed out on my martial arts bout and had damaged my teams reputation, lost my vacation opportunity and I can no longer eat fish the way I used to, this is sad because my mother makes some great salmon dishes. Never eating from sushi sushi again, and I would advise no one else does, it make look appealing but you risk your safety with these unhygienic restaurants.

Really impressed by this little takeaway joint offering a variety of Asian food including noodles,…read morerice dishes, sushi and more. The food is really tasty with a good amount of spice. The ingredients they use is good quality and fresh. I certainly can't complain about the prices. And the portion of food was large enough for lunch the next day. I'll be coming back to this place next time I'm in Melbourne. Conveniently located near the Airport Tourist Village. There's also a supermarket and bottle shop nearby.

Tonight, we ate Noodle Dishes from NOODLE SUSHI BAR, Fawkner Street, Westmeadows. We weren't really aware that it was there - It's tucked away in the back of the Fawkner Street shops, behind the IGA Supermarket - access is via the supermarket carpark drive-way.. Anyway - a nice surprise - Asian Take-Away being a little bereft in this 'neck o' the woods'.. We ordered: - Chicken Teriyaki Udon Noodle - Honey Soy Pork Flat Egg Noodle - Mongolian Beef Thick Egg Noodle - Fried Kwai Teow Flat Rice Noodle All decent sized serves; All distinctly flavoured; All generous with the proteins: All with fresh Asian veg; All priced at $10.90 - Very reasonable.. Their Cantonese dishes are all over the $15 mark - Seems a little high for 'Burbs Asian' but lots were ordering, so possibly 'Good Value'..? Will do an update..!! Nice clean premises - All of the food prep, cooking, and packaging is done right in front of you - Always a BIG PLUS for me.. They were busy - 4 or 5 lots of phone orders, plus a few walk-in's, all at 7.30pm, on a Sunday night.. A good sign.. Cook threw in a free bottle of Kirk's Lemon Squash - presumably cos we'd spent over $40 - we didn't really need it, but nice to see, it doesn't happen often, any more.. Very happy to visit again - Will also try the Sushi next time.. Visited Sunday 10 January 2016 for Take-Away Dinner.

The…read moreWalrus Inn is a delightful little restaurant, the inside of the restaurant is a place you don't mind dining in at, although it's quite cosy and they are popular so eating in sometimes is not as easy as it sounds. You can't walk past the ample array of sushi and bento boxes. If you're not too keen on seafood or raw fish, the variety of hand rolls will have you salivating; chicken terriyaki and vegetarian are the two variants I've sampled and they are delicious. Walrus Japanese also serve up fried fast food faves like dim sims, dumplings and spring rolls. Great food I've come to trust, always fresh with fast and friendly service. As far as Japanese and sushi goes, this IS as good as it gets!! AND they open at 7:00am so you're able to drop in and grab your lunch before the daily grind.

There are tables to sit down and dine al fresco, but it is also perfect if you want to dine on the hop - and if so, there is a bin conveniently placed 3-4 metres away so when you finish your sushi, you can get rid of the packaging, rubber band and sauce in the fish container that you dont use... A great little sushi place and one that I almost never walk past without buying something!!! My kids love it too and always want something too!

Shopping at Northcote Plaza and looking for a quick bite?…read more If so then Bubble Boy Sushi is a great place to head amidst greasy looking takeaway options and dowdy looking cafes. Rock up to the front facing sushi hand roll counter and choose your poison. Me? I go for Cooked Tuna Hand rolls every time. The side counter has sushi combo's and other fresh looking bites, however for me its all about the tuna rolls. The tuna sushi was fresh and the tuna mixed in mayonnaise neighboured by avocado created a great ingredients ratio. $2.40 a piece, bargain! The rolls were accompanied by soy sauce and made the perfect solution to my lunch time hunger. The small cubes and tables don't encourage you to linger, but for a quick bite what more could you want?

This place sells invariably good quality sushi for very competitive prices and its staff are as sweet as they come. Bubble Boy's crispy chicken sushi is particularly good, being stuffed full of tender chicken strips, luxuriantly creamy mayonnaise and fresh, fresh lettuce. And the price? A very reasonable $2.50 a pop. Probably better for takeaways than eating in due to both the diminutive size of the place and the aforementioned less than beautiful location, Bubble Boy is a total no-brainer for awesomely cheap sushi in Northcote.
