I think this place is a hidden gem, and it's my go-to for authentic sushi in the city. The only problem is when you go and the regular sushi chef (a wonderful very short very old man who doesn't speak a word of English and nods a lot but who works magic with the way he cuts fish) is not on duty- anyone else younger just doesn't cut the fish the way he does. Somehow when he makes it the Ngiri just melts in your mouth- a perfect thickness to the cut and a perfect rice to fish ratio- here 8 pieces of salmon sushi is actually filling! Not to mention super fresh and absolutely delicious. My husband also loves their cooked food. Much of the clientele is Japanese and quiet, which I like (I'm not). Only downside is that they are not open often enough (closed between lunch and dinner and only dinner on weekends). It's not a cheap joint, but it's not expensive either, and I think this is actually very high quality cuisine in a low-key décor joint, which I like. read more
